My doctor and I talked about all 3 and we both agreed that RNY was the right one for me. I liked the estimated excess weight loss and I liked the idea of dealing with dumping syndrome if I didn't stick to the plan. I am very happy so far that I had RNY.

I was excited. My surgeon went over a bunch of stuff and then gave me the chance to ask her a bunch of questions. When I left her office that I day I knew I had made the right decision.

I had two friends concerned with me dying. I explained to them the very low mortality rate and that I appreciated their concerns. Now, 100 pounds lighter those same two friends lavish me with compliments every time I see them. Overall I couldn't care less what people think. I did this for me and me alone.

Are you comfortable talking about it?
enjoyinglife replied to Defying Gravity's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I started a new job at the same company 8 weeks before my surgery. During the interview I chose not to say anything for fear of it hurting my chances. After I got the job and it was official, I approached my new supervisors and told them what I was doing. They were very supportive and I was able to take 3 weeks off. After I came back I couldn't lift more than 20 pds. Again, they were completely supportive. Since then I have been very open and honest with everyone who has noticed my 100 pd weight loss. I have had nothing but compliments and praise. -

When I am in the gym working out I think to myself: "Building twisted steel and sex appeal!" Other mantras include: "Attitude is everything" "This is my individual journey and I am finding my way" "I am growing and changing." "I make appropriate food choices based on my goals." "I am finding my own recovery." Great topic!!!

I would double check with your Doctor before you do that.

Great question! I take 3 different kinds, depending on what I am doing for the day. I use Wellesse liquid, UpCal D powder, and Calcet Creamy Bites. The wellesse liquid doesn't taste that bad, the powder I mix in with my protien shakes or sugar free pudding, and the creamy bites when I am on the go. Using a combination of the three, I never struggle to get my calcium in.

what do you do for a tummy ache?
enjoyinglife replied to loving.life's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When my tummy aches I tell it to shut up! I have a great inner dialogue going on all day with myself. Sorry I wasn't much help. -
I broke up with my girlfriend 3 months post-op. I am not sure if it had anything to do with my surgery. I think it had to do more with not wanting to settle. I am hoping to meet someone at a race, support group meeting, or at the gym.

anyone told to get a compression garment?
enjoyinglife replied to lockhb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't wear anything after surgery. I did start wearing compression gear when I started working out and running. -
What condements do you use?
enjoyinglife replied to tkauhi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use the same ones I used pre-op, the only difference now is I use a lot less at a time. -
When did you stop?
enjoyinglife replied to Amanda Nicole Hosaflook's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink a shake about every other day. I found a brand I love. A shake for me represents a quick and high quality food item that I am more than happy to consume. Sometimes I do one a day. -
How much money do you save on food?
enjoyinglife replied to niassy151's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
As a single guy, I still spend about the same amount. The big difference is now I spend that money on quality items. I can live with that. Great topic!! -

questions to ask the surgeon
enjoyinglife replied to blueyz80's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know why, but I asked mine how big my pouch would be. Otherwise, I was more than ready for the surgery. -

Good for you!!! I ran my first 5k a few weeks back, it was awesome. I have a bunch of 5k races lined up for this year. I would have never thought in a million years that I would enjoy running, now it has become a part of my weekly fitness routine. Good luck, hope you have a great time.
