What do you miss most after Weight Loss Surgery?
enjoyinglife replied to Menelly's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That is not an easy question to answer but I will give it a try. I miss shopping at the big and tall store. I miss being out of breath when I walk up one flight of stairs. I miss wearing 3XL shirts and size 50 waist pants. I miss being the biggest person in the room. I miss not being able to squeeze into a chair and feeling the armrests digging into my sides. I really miss my heartburn.(You know the kind that hurts so bad, you get tears in your eyes), I miss being called: "Big-T" at work. I miss sitting on my ass everynight shoving my face full of food and playing video games until 2 in the morning. I miss the sound of my thighs rubbing together when I walk. I miss trying to convince myself that because I had a bad day, I am entitled to eat whole pizzas, and drink 2 liter bottles of soda. I miss telling myself that tommorrow I will start my diet. I miss not getting compliments on how good I look. I miss staring at my feet when I walk in public. I miss not having self confidence. I miss my double chins. I miss how round my face once looked. You can drink soda again. I have a few co-workers who have gained most if not all of their weight back. It has been said a million times on this site, but the surgery is a tool and that's it. It's what you decide to do with this tool that will make you successful. -

How do you choose a goal weight?
enjoyinglife replied to Sparklingbeauty53's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
HI. I picked my weight loss goal based on a formula I found on: www. obesityhelp dot com. I used the estimated percentage of weight loss, which is 65%. If you want to use this calculator, click on "resources" and then click on "post-op planner" Just keep in mind that some of the weight you are loosing is muscle. I have heard it said that up to 15% of the weight you loose is muscle. My original goal with my Doctor and NUT was to have a normal BMI, which I now have. My goal now is to add 15 pounds of muscle back to my frame. Good luck and best wishes! -
I am exactly 8 months post-op, and I have averaged 4.03 lbs a week. Congrats on your success so far, keep up the good work!

any ideas on how to battle loose skin in the mid section
enjoyinglife replied to clowntrigger2k's topic in The Guys’ Room
I don't think you ever get rid of it. Some people opt for surgery, I myself am just learning to deal with it. I wear compression gear under my clothes. It is a small price to pay but I don't miss my old self one bit. It should be noted also that I am lifting weights, and doing cardio training like a man possessed. -

It took me 20 minutes to drink 8oz of Water at first. Now I can drink that in about 5 minutes.

I can tolerate sweets but not foods high in fat. I haven't had any cravings for junk food yet. I am trying to prepare for that day. I know the trail mix I make is loaded with sugar and fat, but so far I have been able to control my portion size to 1/3 cup a day. I don't know that I will ever eliminate my sweet tooth, but I hope I can keep it under control. Right now the only thing I would like to start eating is popcorn. I won't try it until I get clearance from my NUT. I really like what terry1118 had to say about it.

I don't think there is a magic number. (Anyone, feel free to correct me if I am wrong) I unfortunately can tolerate sugar, so I do my best to keep it as low as possible.

Anyone from Wisconsin?

Well, I live 1/2 mile from the border in MI. I did grow up in WI and I have family that live in WI. Does that count? -
Do you eat regular or non/lo fat versions of food?
enjoyinglife replied to marfar7's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't do fat free or light anything. (hidden sugars and carbs) I drink coconut or almond milk. The only thing I can't do anymore is 2% cottage cheese. I have had to switch over to 1% cottage cheese. great topic! -
No carbonation ever again?
enjoyinglife replied to Loristi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My friend drinks pop all the time. She had WLS 5 years ago, and has since gained 40 pounds. I am planning on being a little more disciplined than her. -
Mix in a large bowl. 1 cup salted cashew halves 1/3 cup honey sesame sticks 1/4 cup dried blueberries 1/3 cup walnut pieces 1/3 cup banana chips, chopped up 1/4 cup pineapple or mango pieces, chopped up 1/3 cup Brookside dark chocolate Acai A portion size for me is 1/3 cup. I don't know how long it stays fresh. It doesn't last long in my house.

Just wanted to share a little food for thought. "If your desire is to _________ or ________, and you don't take the steps necessary to __________ or ________, then you desire something else, no matter what you say." -Unknown

Maybe right now in your life you aren't ready for WLS. I will tell you this about my own journey: It feels so liberating to no longer be a slave to food. I approach eating in a whole new way. It feels like I have a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. I also no longer feel like I have a fog surrounding me. I am clear headed, happy, and have huge amounts of energy. I walk to work, I run 5k's on the regular, I keep dropping clothing sizes, and not a day or two goes by that I don't get compliments from friends and co-workers. NO bottle of pop or fried chicken or buffet has ever done that for me. Best of luck!!!

I think what you are feeling is normal. Take a deep breath and try to relax. You will do just fine. -
