when can you start drinking decaf coffee?
TX Patty replied to seriousaboutme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So here's my theory. My nutritionist said no more pasta, potatoes, fruit, etc forever. But the reason I had the surgery was for diabetes, I wasn't necessarily obese but I couldn't get my blood sugar under control. So I think my doc was a little more lax with me than he would be a morbidly obese patient. -
Surgery was yesterday! Liquids question
TX Patty replied to sageandcoyesmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc told me his rule of thumb is trial and error. If you can tolerate it then you're fine. If you can drink that much and it doesn't hurt then that's awesome, keep it up because dehydration is bad. You're told to sip because gulping can hurt with the excess air and filling up to fast. It's what you can tolerate, congrats. I'm not good at monitoring my intake but I know I'm no where near 64oz. -

Oh, and same here, I was served coffee in the hospital but it was awful so I only had a couple of sips. -

I was a daily coffee drinker pre op and my doc told me I was ok to drink coffee post op. I drink it caffeinated with sf French vanilla and Splenda and I tolerate it just fine. -
Here I am 4 weeks post op and I'm still not tolerating solids. Every couple of days I try a little something but either I get the foamies or I sit with a trash can because I feel like I won't hold it down. So bummed.

Surgery was on 8/14, 4 weeks today and down 36lbs. But it has to be because I can't seem to transition to solids yet. I'm drinking my protein and finding many ways of getting in my fluids.

Yes! I love the sound of that! I love avocados.
-
Because I couldn't even stomach the vitamins my doc suggested Ensure Clear. They have a blueberry pomegranate that I've been able to choke down half a 10oz bottle a day. Tons of proteins and vitamins. It made me feel so much better.

Thanks y'all, so maybe wait a couple more weeks and try solids again? I'll just stock up on more Soups and those heavenly sf tropical Popsicles. Random question, has anyone had avocados?
-
I'm still having foamies so I called my doc and he said that I'm just not ready for solids yet. He said to stay on liquids and try again in a few days. Hope that helps.
-
Yup, same exact boat. I've been sipping Ensure Clear to get my vitamins in and it does boost my energy. I still can't tolerate solids and I'm 3weeks out, I tried again today and got the foamies again. I've been feeling decent the last couple of days and hubby thinks its the Ensure.

I'm from NW Houston but currently live in UT. I miss home something awful.

Alcohol & post op...
TX Patty replied to Lovelycurves's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a question for Army. How did the beer go? I thought carbonated drinks were permanently off the menu. -
I've been having this problem too but thank goodness something comes up because the pain is worse. I am having the exact issues Terry described (I am 2 weeks post op) and am to the point that I regret doing this and I'm looking into reversing it. For Protein my doc suggested Ensure clear. I have some blueberry pomegranate that was tolerable yesterday and actually gave me a little energy because I have none.

Hi, I'm new here and this is my first post. I'm looking for advice. I am 9 days post op, having lost 17 lbs, can't be healthy right? And I have a constant nausea sensation preventing me from eating properly. Water even tastes bitter and I have always been a water drinker. Any suggestions? Should I call my doc? I feel so weak.

Watermelon cake! Sooooo yummy
TX Patty replied to moniquesgettingft's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
I have tolerated watermelon really well. It's all water but I can see where the sugar can upset your stomach. -
I need to try the teas, the others were way too sweet.

Hungry but scared to eat...
TX Patty replied to Alexandra39's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Our family is our worst enemy. Surround yourself with people that boost you up. Y'all weren't that heavy to begin with but I can see we're your self esteem issues come from. -
I thought for sure it was coming to an end then bam, it starts all over again. Thank you for letting me whine. I've tried all the suggestions and they work great the first time but when I go to do it again it doesn't help. Patience is not my strong suit.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I'll definitely try the mixes. I know I'm not supposed to but I've been sipping on fruit juices to kill the bad taste. I'm sad to hear this will go on for a month, I may ask my doc for a prescription of zofran just to make it easier to try to eat. I feel so week that even taking a shower exhausted me.
