My doc says no crackers but pickle juice and onion powder for flavor are ok. No "lumps" like egg, celery, pickles, onions etc...

Surgery date septmber 4, 2013

I just wanted to mention that dumping once a day isn't normal (or healthy) dehydration is very common when this happens when you dump. You might want to talk to your surgeon and reevaluate what you are eating. You are still early post op and it sounds like you are pushing the boundaries pretty quickly with pretty bad choices for so early out. Just my opinion, no judgement, just advice -
Blueberry Muffin - Minimal Dumping
pear425 replied to Kcarr1120's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I agree with what the others say but also have a different point if view to share. I had RNY in 2005. I have now gained almost all my weight back. My weight gain didn't start till 4 years later when I started eating whatever I wanted. I can eat anything now and it took a very short time for me to get to that point. I still have dumping and had my gallbladder removed 11months after RNY. FYI my god awful gallstone attack was after eating one blueberry muffin. I am not one to tell you what to do since I messed up but I would be concerned if you are already doing this so soon after surgery. -

Afraid to start the protein milkshakes
pear425 replied to xiomara8868's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
There are other types if unflavored protein from different companies. Protein powders are not all equal. You have to try things out so I would buy small amounts at first. Isopure, Unjury, Nectar are the first that come to mind. Check them out online. -

Look up Bariatric Advantage

You sound really confused. Have you talked with your surgeon and nut. They should have give you thorough instructions for all of these questions and concerns prior to surgery. Every doc is different so even though it's helpful to hear from others always stick with what the doctor ordered.

I'm going to St. Agnes with Dr. Averbach. He is doing my revision. Dr Von Rueden did my original RNY in 2005

I don't know anything about the garden of life brand but I do now about vitamins. You will get lots of different answers but I would always suggest following your surgeon and nuts rules. For me I didn't take Bariatric specific vitamins at first and then became vitamin deficit. After bypass we don't absorb vitamins the same so ones specially formulated for us are necessary. Bariatric Advantage and Nutrametrix and the companies to check out.

15 grams of sugar is a lot. Not all yogurts are created equal. You have search for low sugar, low cal, non or low fat. My nut gave me a list of the four yogurts that are good and meet our needs.

Most all surgeons and insurance now require a 6 month supervised diet program. In this time you should be attending education for pre and post op topics. They aren't just making you wait to wait. You have to work with a nut or PCP and have it documented.

Are you allergic to Gluten? I just was wondering why you want to limit your food choice to very specific things. If you have an a allergy then of course you have to find things for that but since being successful with WLS means basing your diet on protein. Protein is the most important. Not calories or sugars or fats or fruits and veggies. I would think it would be difficult to sustain a diet with high enough protein levels on a raw and vegan diet. You can't just rely on the shakes. Have you discussed this with your surgeon on nut?

How much do you really need?
pear425 replied to CandyCrushRNY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you met your surgeon and Nut? They should give you info on this information. I can say that you need 64 oz -80 oz a protein a day so you can do the math if how many you need a day. But it doesn't have to be from a shake. Getting the exact numbers is not really possible. Every person can tolerate didn't foods at different times. Your taste buds may change also. You can be prepared but not exact. -
I don't have Medicaid but I am familiar with MD healthcare plans. I have BCBS Carefirst Maryland and the 6 month supervised diet is a requirement. Most people I know and have spoken to have needed the diet program. For my plan it is either 6 months in a row or two separate 3 months programs. Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig and any prescribed doctor supervised weight loss programs count. What surgeon and hospital are you gong to?

Stricture? Anyone had it?
pear425 replied to nepa1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should absolutely not still be on baby food. If you can't tolerate anything you need to see your surgeon ASAP. -
I used to suffer chronic migraines as well as back neck and knee pain. No medicine (non narcotics) and I was taking so much that I started having problems with my GI system. I went to a Chiropractor and Physical therapy and I have no migraines (an occasional headache) now. My back and neck felt amazing. I discovered the migraines where from inflamed spinal nerves, out if line discs, and a poor neck curvature. My weight also played a HUGE role. Weight loss should help.

Just HOW many pills do we have to take?
pear425 replied to meyouus's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My answer to your question is completely different then the others. First I should say I had RNY in 2005 and did fine until 2009 when I started to regain weight. I am now having revision surgery. I work very closely with my nut who specializes in bariatric nutrition and has a focus on Vitamin deficiency. She has taught me that in the last few years research has proven that the Vitamins that we all think of like Centrum, Citracal etc... are not effective for us because we do not absorb them at all, hence we don't get the benefit from them. This makes very good sense since the reason we lose weight in addition to pouch is because of the malabsorption of calories, fats etc... If we don't absorb food nutrients we aren't going to absorb the vitamins. Check out the company Bariatric Advantage. They are the leaders. I understand you are very concerned about the cost and these vitamins are not cheap and you must take vitamins for the rest of your life (the doctors aren't just saying that!) Before meeting my current nut I was taking centrum, citracal, Iron complete from GNC, and sublingal b-12. After getting my blood work it was revealed I have some severe vitamin deficiencies Especially Vit D which has caused some damage that can't be reversed. I don't mean to sound scary or anything. This is just my personal experience and as I have learned throughout the years is that every surgeon has different standards/practices and requirements for their patients. I always believe in following the directions given by your own doctor but please research what they are saying and asked about bariatric specific vitamins. -
I would get the go-ahead from your nut. before buying anything. My nut specializes in bariatrics with a focus on vitamin deficiency and she is very clear that our vitamins need to be designed specifically for bariatric patients. All vitamins are not created equally and since our bodies don't digest and absorb things the same if you aren't taking the right stuff you might as well not take anything. I had RNY in 2005 and have had a large weight regain. I am having revision surgery and I am with a completely different surgeon and nut then from before. I have had a lot of trouble with vitamin deficiency because I was taking stuff like Centrum, Citracal, regular iron and b12. None were bariatric specific and now I a lot of problems specifically with Vit. D. Every doctor and nut has different beliefs and approaches so I suggest following the rules you were given but also do your own research.

60-80 grams for women and 80-100 for men

My understanding of purée is completely smooth no lumps or chunks. You could purée the beans with some cheese I suppose. Best bet is to take to your Nut.

Could be your gallbladder.

I have been following RNYTalk.com for a while now and decided I should share my experience. I had RNY in January 2005 at age 24. I was 249 lbs at the time of surgery. I did fantastic with no complications other than needing my gall bladder removed in December of that year (which is very common). I lost my weight steadily and at six months I had got down to 152 lbs. I never had a specific goal in mind but this was a great weight for me. After that I stabled out at 157 lbs for four years. In January 2009 my life dramatically changed when my very painful divorce was final. More or less everything that had been my life was gone. I was going to be 30 in just a couple months and I was back living at home with my parents in a dreary basement apartment with no job, no insurance and no hope. As many of us know all to well when depression strikes food becomes our medicine, our friend and are only consistent source of love. Needless to say I started to gain my weight back. I was in complete denial that it was my eating habits but instead something was "wrong" with the surgery. I even went to my surgeon who performed an exploratory abdominal procedure and found nothing of significance. Sinking deeper into my depression my weight gain continued and for a long time I just denied it all together despite having to buy bigger and bigger clothes. My self-esteem was down to an all time low and was now I was trying to attempt to date for the first time in 8 years. Boy, what fun was that! When I finally found a good man (who I married last summer) I was up to 200 lbs. I didn't care anymore and my husband loved me for who I was and not for how I looked. Now exactly 3 years since our relationship started I am 225 lbs and have been at this weight despite efforts to lose the weight. I have decided to see a new surgeon that is a revision specialist and have my RNY revised. I am now in the beginning stages of getting the process rolling. It is treated just like I never had the surgery before. Supervised weight loss, seminars, NUT meetings, blood work etc. I am having an EGD in two weeks and next month I will be done with the supervised weight loss requirement. My own therapist will provide the pysch eval and we will be doing that at the end of the month. I don't have an actual surgery date yet. My main point in sharing this is that this surgery is just a tool. I know we all hear this but it is so, so true and not a lifelong fix no matter what. If you stop eating right, stop taking Vitamins, stop following up with your surgeon you will gain back the weight. I am not writing all this to scare anyone or make anyone reconsider their decision. Having GB was the best thing I every did myself and I know I will be able to do it again. My mind set is 100% different and I know so much more than I did 8 years ago. This is my story and I look forward to be getting a second chance on my life and getting control of my weight once again.

The broth in Won Ton soup is very salty and high in sodium. I would recommend not eating it.
