Stop Losing

Every diet I've been on, I always stalled around the third week.. Knowing that doesn't make it easier though!! On a different forum I used to go to, they'd call the third week on atkins Post Induction Stall Syndrome (or PISS), because everyone complained about it.. Congrats on the 25 pounds!!
2. Congrats on seeing the surgeon in 2 weeks - it's exciting isn't it! This sounds like it's what you really want - hopefully your husband will come around in time. I'm sure he's just scared, like you mentioned. Still it's too bad he thinks it's the "easy way out" - since when is surgery easy?? Maybe if he went to the seminar or appointments with you he would understand things better and be more supportive? Anyway goodluck in your journey, and congrats! :clap2:

Very Scared!

Good question - I've been wondering the same thing, thanks for asking!

Surgery Date - Aug 22

I'm right there with you, my surger is next week too.. I don't have any advice, just wanted to say goodluck and know you're not alone!
5. Wow - very inspirational - thank you for sharing your photos, you look beautiful!! Congratulations on your success. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother.. I don't know how I would go on and not just want to give up if that happened to me, you are very strong!! Kudos to you!! :clap2:

Reality is setting it!

I'm not banded yet (just a few more days...), but I'm preparing myself mentally for the transition in a few ways... First, the past few weeks when I've been eating something that I might not be able to eat after the band.... I eat it, then ask myself "was eating that worth being overweight and unhealthy my whole life?" and each time I conclude, it just didn't taste that good! Secondly, I figure.. well if I were "dieting" I wouldn't be able to eat certain foods either.. I was on atkins for almost a year, lost 90 pounds, felt great, and that was very restrictive! Then I went off, gained half of it back, and here I am.... If I can do atkins for a year I know I can live the band lifestyle - and I WON"T gain it back this time because I'll have the band to help me! I also tell myself... well some people are allergic to certain types of foods, and it's not like they lead unhappy lives because of it Anyway these are all things that I've been telling myself.. I know ultimately I would rather be healthy and skinny than eat those types of foods.. hopefully I'll remember that after I'm banded! Goodluck with everything! :clap2:

What do you tell people at work

I'm also telling people I'm having gallbladder surgery. I hate lying, but this is personal and I don't think it's anyone's business. If one day I need real gallbladder surgery - I guess i'll just have to pretend I'm having something else (ah what a tangled web we weave...).
9. Nevermind, i just figured it out (plastic surgery/tummy tuck)
10. Those are all really good questions! I had three pages of questions to ask as well, but most of mine were answered in the seminar as well. What is PS/TT btw, when you said: "Are there many patients who reach goal and DON’T need PS/TT’s?" Thanks in advance, and goodluck with everything!
11. I'm sorry to hear that you're in so much pain, how awful! No help here, I haven't been banded yet. Just wanted to say hope you feel better!
12. It's not unheard of - but definitely not the average!! My insurance was really quick in the pre-auth too.. it took a few tries for them to actually receive the fax, (the doc sent it to the wrong number a few times).. but once they got it, they approved me in like 48 hours - I was amazed! No diet documentation was needed either - I couldn't believe it!! The stuff that slowed me down was getting my psych, nutrition, and medical evaluations.
13. Welcome! I am from Kalamazoo but getting banded by Dr. Deol in Sterling Heights - I agree with Rosewolf - she has been great so far!! Worth the long drive from Kalamazoo!

Tell me a story.....

That was an excellent story!! :clap2:

Suggestions on filling out the packet

I put the same thing - depressed because of weight and anxiety on the surgery packet (which is true). For the psych eval, I put the same thing but I didn't answer the questions in a way that indicated I was really depressed (which i'm not... i'm just depressed because i'm overweight, everything else in my life is going okay!). I was approved by the surgeon & psychologist, so you shouldn't have anything to worry about either! Goodluck!
16. That sucks about them not scheduling you right, and about the supervised diet!! I have never heard of the company you work for askign for that, how odd!! Now I am worried about mine... Hang in there, it will all be worth it in the end!
17. Has anybody ever "failed" the questionairre? Is it just looking for extremes in personality or people with no grasp of reality, or does it really try to trick you with its questions? I'm worried I'lll misread a question, answer "wrong" and then have my surgery delayed.. I am probably overworrying though!

Inusrance

Congratulations, that's wonderful!!!!! If only all insurance companies could be so quick!!
19. I'm not getting banded on that date, or by that doctor, but I'm hoping to be banded somewhere that week (keeping fingers crossed my paperwork goes through). Congrats on setting the surgery date!! Keep us updated
20. Congrats on being so close to your surgery date!! I don't have any advice as I'm not banded yet,, but I think this is definitely a step in the right direction for better health! Keep us updated on how everything goes
21. The surgeon I am seeing used to do both the gastic bypass and the lapband, but now she only does Lap-band.. so no pressure there! For the family doctor I had to see for all the pre-op tests, I specifically went to this doctor because he kind of has a "I don't care" attitude towards his patients.. our family stopped using him because of that.. but in this case, it turned out to be useful! 3 years ago when I saw a doctor to get an okay for the lapband, he was very against surgery of any kind and I don't even think he knew what the lapband was... He said he'd look into it, despite being against it... two weeks later I got a denial from insurance for the bypass.. first of all, he didn't even tell me he was submitting me... second of all, it was for the bypass not the lap-band!! What a great doctor he was *rolls eyes*

Approved!!

Congratulations to you both! Slightly envious here until the day I get mine approved. Way to go!!
23. This is an old thread, but I'm going to give it a bump because I am curious about the answer too! I worry about having to switch insurances one day, what coverage will be like..

First steps

Congratulations on getting the ball rolling! There is a thread around here somewhere for lapbanders who started with a higher BMI, I will try to look for it and link it to you.. I hear you on the plateau, sometimes despite our best efforts, we have to run as fast as we can just to stay in the same place! The lapband seems like a great tool to help us move forward.. Goodluck with everything!

Questions about lapband

I can only help with the first question so far... At one point in my life I managed to lose 90 pounds on my own (gained most of it back of course...) but the difference in how people treated me was incredible.. it really made me mad how much more respect and consdiration I got when I was a bit thinner!! Of course some people will be jerks no matter what you way, but in general the difference was astounding.
