Joining the land of Bands

Congrats on being in bandland! I hear ya on the bloated feeling and being run over with a big truck! It gets better every day.. walking, gas-x, and backrubs for the gas works great!
2. Normal, and good, after surgery! I burped and burped for about five days afterwards.

10 Years Out, Only 14% Lost?

I wonder if they averaged in those that had the lapband but then had to have it removed for some reason and regained their weight? I wouldn't put much stock in that study!

What was your experience with your PCP?

I didn't go through a PCP either. I went straight to the surgeon, and she submitted the pre-authorization form to my insurance. I'm not sure if it was because I am a PPO with my insurance and didn't need a referral, or if I just plain didn't need a referral. It probably depends on your insurance! When I tried like four years ago with a different insurance, I went to my PCP and he was a downright JERK about it, so I definitely understand your concerns! But don't let them make you feel bad or talk you out of it. If they do - go to a different doctor! Goodluck with everything!
6. The surgeon said something like "okay mary we're going to put this mask on you, breathe deeply" or something... and I waved and said "bye!!" and she laughed and said "bye!".... love those relaxation drugs they put you on right before surgery

When I woke up, I tried asking if they had to convert to open.. or if I woke up during surgery, but noone answered me... Maybe I just thought I asked, or they're used to dealing with drugged up ppl lol. Oh I also said "i love anasthesia"...

How do I prepare for recovery?

Congrats on your upcoming surgery! I'm only 6 days out but I'm not able to pick up my 11 month niece yet... but I feel like in a few days I might be up for it. Just make sure you don't try too soon or it will take longer to heal than necessary. Goodluck on monday!!

Teachers?

Hey Pam! Congrats on your surgery date! You might want to check out this thread http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/banded-teachers-talk-btt-35268/ "Banded Teachers talk". I know what you mean about waiting until the end of summer, I'm a grad student and teach a lab section at my university, so even for me, august 20th was cutting it close.. I'm still really sore, hopefully I'll be much better next week. Goodluck with everything!

roller coasters

I asked my doc about this at the pre-op visit, she said that bandsters could do virtually anything - skydive, scubadive, and rollercoasters. I was glad to hear it! If anyone's heard anything different it would be good to hear, but I haven't seen anyone post about any problems with roller coasters before.

Tuesday is my lucky day

Congrats on getting a surgery date! I know exactly how you feel, that was totally me last week too! I did the same thing too - cleaned, cleaned, and cleaned before I left for surgery. Goodluck and let us know how everything goes!
19. I was also told I could take mine off a week after, but if they started to look gross or peely, as soon as five days. I have a post-op appointment at the day 8 mark, where the surgeon will look at the incisions, i'm guessing she might take them off then.

August 2007 bandsters

I was banded this past monday, August 20th, still very sore, but not as much gas pain today. Glad to be in bandland!! Not sure if i'm getting enough liquids in, as 2 ounces fills me up for an hour.. Trying though! The tylenol with codeine I was taking for pain was starting to give me breathing problems a little, so I'm just taking regular tylenol blast now. Congrats to all of us august bandsters on starting our journey!

New with some qustions

Welcome! How long it might take is quite variable - usually depends on what your insurance requires. You might want to go to the "insurance subforum" http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f8/ and do a search for Health Net. Also you might want to give them a call and ask them about their policy. Goodluck with everything!
