I did read this yesterday, but I would still definitely call the doctor! http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f84/blurry-eyes-40879/

Welcome to bandland!! Wishing you a speedy recovery! But don't feel guilty taking it easy for a while as you recover!
-

Do they know exactly what is wrong with your esophagus? My mother (who also has the band) just found out that her esophagus has a bit of a "pouch" to it at the bottom that has been causing her problems as well. I had never heard of it and am curious if that is the same problem, and what they said they might be able to do about it. I wish you the best of luck with everything!

Sugar Alcohol Question
Mary-2b150 replied to stefgray's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They are a sort of artificial form of sugar. They are similar to sucrose, but with an -OH group added to the end (an alcohol group).. This makes them taste similar to sugar but our bodies don't absorb/digest them, really.. so they pretty much go right through you! Unfortunately, this creates some interesting side effects in the bathroom, such as diarrhea, bloating, and major gas issues. You find them in a lot of "low-carb" candy bars or proteins shakes. -
I don't want to know how much I've lost
Mary-2b150 replied to Susan Charmain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Quite a few people on here feel the same way, I've noticed. I know the feeling! Right now I'm not weighing myself because i haven't even had my first fill yet, so I don't want to put myself through the ups and downs. Once I have my fill I will probably start weighing myself more often, as seeing the scale move down really motivates me to keep up the exercise and hard work. You're not alone though! Do what works best for you -
Did you stay the night or go home on day of surgery?
Mary-2b150 replied to mandi78's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stayed the night, and was very thankful for it. I also had issues with naseau and felt a little more pain than I was expecting.. I liked having the pain meds in my IV, and I liked the feeling of having a security net in case something did go wrong or I was worried about something. The hospital I was in was excellent! I had a room all to myself (it was a big room too! Easy to walk around in the next morning to help relieve the gas), and the nurses were very helpful (except the nurse assistant - she was such a ditz, and kept forgetting to bring me my ice chips! My mouth was soooo dry... But no biggie).. I liked having the hospital stay, but I don't think you'll have any problems not being there. The hotel idea sounds great actually, the less of a long drive you have to deal with right after the surgery the better. -
Ok I'm a newbie and I'm really bummed!
Mary-2b150 replied to docsdeb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yay! Glad to hear you are proceeding, I can't wait till we're all losing weight and posting our after photos on here! To add a ticker, you can go to Trying To Conceive Ticker, select the "weight loss" tickers, and pick out your design and enter your info.. the last page has a bunch of different "codes" that you can put in your signature... go to the bottom where it says "ez-code", and copy that Then, come back here, go to your userCP underneat that smiling lady on the top left corner at the top ^^^^^, and go to "edit signature", and paste your link, save... and voila! you should have a ticker. Hope that helps! -
For the first few days after surgery, I barely drank anything either. Maybe 8 ounces the first day, 15 the next, 25 the next... I don't remember if it "hurt" when it hit the stomach, but I could almost physically feel the liquid in there, and I knew I didn't want anymore.. It got a little better each day.. I also slept a TON that week - very very normal.. also got better each day, but lingered for about a week and a half or so.

Usually through some sort of diet. Each doctor differs in what kind of pre-op diet they prescribe to their patient. Many doctors prefer a liquid diet for two weeks before the surgery, but others (including mine) prefer a low-carb diet. Did you doctor mention anything to you about dieting, or did s/he simply say "shrink your liver".. if s/he just told you to shrink your liver, shame on him/her for not being informative enough!

Sugar Alcohol Question
Mary-2b150 replied to stefgray's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's totally possible! Sometimes I'll just have a bite or two of something with sugar alcohol, and .... egads!

Definitely try cutting it out and seeing if it helps. Goodluck! Congrats on the weight loss, and great job on exerising every day.. you are an inspiration!! -
Ok I'm a newbie and I'm really bummed!
Mary-2b150 replied to docsdeb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only recently banded, so I can't promise you that this will work... but for me, I made the decision to have surgery because no matter how hard I tried at losing weight on my own it just WASN'T WORKING, no matter what I did... I knew I had to try something drastically different if I ever wanted to feel good about myself in my own skin. NOT having the surgery meant I was giving up on myself.. having the surgery showed that I still had hope! Maybe this won't work, who knows, but I couldn't go on just doing the same thing time and again and hoping for a different result. If I hadn't gotten banded, I could gaurantee I would weight the same thing next August as I did this august... now that I'm banded I feel like I actually have a shot at this whole "thin and healthy" world that I've never been a part of before! I'm not aiming to be a bikini model or anything like that, I just want to be a healthy weight and be able to be more active. And the "before and after" photo thread definitely filled me with optimism as well! Goodluck in whatever you decide! -
Awesome!! Goodluck with everything, hope it all runs smoothly!

I had my initial consultation with the surgeon on July 24th.. It took me about two weeks to wrap up all the appointments they wanted me to do with the nutritionist, psychologist, and primary care physician. My insurance approved me a few days after they received the pre-authorization request. I was scheduled to have surgery two weeks after that. So all together it was 3.5 weeks or so!

Margie & Cerrin gave good advice for the work situation - I just wanted to add that I know exactly how you feel! For me it was ordering lab coats for work, even the largest size was really tight on me.. Anyway every time something happens where I'm embarrased about my weight I think "I won't have to deal with this much longer now that i'm banded!" I feel like I have this secret weapon to get back at them with! Anyway boo to them.. If you really feel like you're over-qualified I would certainly suggest trying to find a new job - you have a whole new start on life with the band, why not embrace it! Of course if your work's insurance is paying for it, I might wait a while lol. Anyway goodluck with everything!
-
I know how you feel - it's exciting isn't it!! Congrats on your surgery date!!

If I can burp it out, it doesn't get too bad on the other end! But generally a little of both
