Why can I eat???
Mary-2b150 replied to justwant2lose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Totally normal!! Happened to me too. Right after surgery, your stomach is swollen so you feel restriction (usually) but as you heal, the swelling goes down and it's like there' s nothing around your stomach at all. Soon you will get an adjustment, and then another adjustment, and maybe even another, but then you will find that sweet spot, and you'll eat just a little and be satisfied!! Just hang in there -
Allergic Reaction to Surgical Glue
Mary-2b150 replied to Chubbstubs's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry to hear that you are going through that! I haven't read anyone else experiencing that, but i'm sure it must have happened before as my doctors mentioned it as a possible risk. I wish you a speedy recovery! -
Painful eating after fill
Mary-2b150 replied to annielkd's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like your band is too tight! You might want them to take out just a little, perhaps 0.25, but you should always be able to handle liquids at all time. But definitely see your doctor for a little unfill! -
I'm thinking the headaches are related to your sugar levels? I used to get headaches when I was hungry a few years ago, until I cut out the sugary foods from my diet.. after a week my headaches went away and I wasn't as hungry all the time. I'm pretty sure i was pre-diabetic but I was never tested. Have you talked to your doctor about the headaches?

If you can stick to just a few bites, I don't think it will be a major problem. Personally, I never stuck to just a few bites and always ended up eating more! The sugar free stuff also gave me upset stomach and major gas issues, so I decided to stay completely away from it after surgery.
-
Once or twice that has happened to me, I assumed maybe I was eating too fast or too much or something. Not positive though. Is it after every meal, or just after breakfast, or lunch, or dinner.. etc.. Have you noticed any patterns?
-
From my own experience, I would not have been up for a motorcycle ride that soon after surgery, but everyone is different. I hope you're able to - it sounds like fun!
-
I've definitely heard of dry-mouth right after surgery, but not starting two weeks post-op. Has it gotten any better?

Swelly Feet before band? How long afterwards?
Mary-2b150 replied to rumar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had something called "plantar fasciatis" that caused my feet to always be achy due to my weight. ANY weight loss helps it enormously!!! It has been gone for a long time... I had it the worst when I was above 250.. it seemed like I was around 230 when it really went away, and it didn't come back! I also find that wearing slippers around the house really helps keep the aches away too. -
My mom (also banded) drinks caffeine occasionally and seems to be okay, (but definitely try to stick with your doc's orders - there might be a reason to avoid caffeine that I am not aware of)
-
Congrats on your weight loss - that is awesome!!! I'm not sure what the lump in the throat is, but I've seen other people mention it and it seems to go away after a while. Definitely let your doctor know if it doesn't go away! And let us know if you find out what it is :rose:

anyone know what this pain is
Mary-2b150 replied to klrromano's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure what that is. I think i've seen other people complain about the same thing, but they've never followed up and explained what their doctor told them it was. Ask your doctor and when you find out let us know! Hope all is well -
Consultation questions..what to ask the Doc?
Mary-2b150 replied to Fish's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely ask how many lap-band surgeries they have performed, complication rate from surgeries (if they ever had to convert to "open" surgery)... and ask questions about what kind of pre-op diet to be on, and what their after-care instructions are (liquids one week.. two weeks... etc). I asked other questions about the risks of surgery and I can't remember what else... I asked a few questions about sliming and "PB"ing and what caused it, and what kind of foods i would be eating long-term. Goodluck at your consultation! -
Not sure, I don't know what an EGD is! It's possible I had it done, there were a lot of tests the doctor did that i didn't understand.
-
Congrats!! Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Wow, I am so sorry to hear about that! I don't know much about hepatitis C. Sounds like it hasn't adversely effected your health so far if you didn't even know you had it, but I guess it is a good thing they found out about it so you can be treated for it before it does do any damage. I wish you the best of health and let us know how everything turns out!

I can't help you with the burning sensation, I have never heard of that - let us know if you find out any answers regarding what the problem is! But I have known someone who could eat a lot more than one cup but was having a hard time swallowing things. She found out there was something strange going on at the bottom of her esophagus, like it kind of poofed out or something.. it was different from esophageal dilation but I forget the name. She got another fill, and her doctor told her to be much more careful when chewing. Things have been better since then with the swallowing, but she still hasn't found her "sweet spot" with restriction. goodluck with everything!

Not Eating After A Certain Time...
Mary-2b150 replied to Isabella's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Before I was banded, I tried to make it a rule not to eat after 7:30 because it helped me to keep my caloric intake down.. but since I've been banded I haven't worried so much about it. If I feel starving at 8, I will eat! Though I do try not to eat too close to bed time, because laying down after I eat doesn't always feel so pleasant. -
Pins and needles in thigh?
Mary-2b150 replied to Leena's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had it chronically, but I know the feeling you are talking about. Sometimes, right after I exercise, I will feel it for about a half an hour! -
Something like that happened to my mother (who is banded), about a year ago. Made her really not want to get another fill. She switched doctors and the new doc is much better at port finding!

Rate of loss long-term
Mary-2b150 replied to Goldie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't heard that! My experience has always been that rate of loss slows down on its own regardless of a conscious effort!! Interesting though, I will have to ask my doc about it later on -
Congrats!! Sounds like you are motivated and ready to go!! Goodluck with the pre-op diet, it makes it a little easier sticking with it when it feels like "for real this time!" - with the lap band you know you won't gain it back overnight like we all have done in the past.. Anyway keep us informed on how everything goes!

Had my consultation
Mary-2b150 replied to nessa3678's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! Sounds like you are on your way to bandland!! My doc said I didn't need to go on a pre-op diet before the surgery either, although the nutritionist recommended I do low-carb for two weeks before the surgery. I wasn't positive that I had to, but I decided to do it anyway, since I've been doing low-carb on and off for the past three years of my life anyway. Anyway, let us know how everything goes! -

Goodluck in whatever you decide to do! -
lap banded and type 1 diabetic, insulin dependent
Mary-2b150 replied to ilovefood's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am not diabetic, but I have heard that insulin does play a large role in your rate of weight loss. I wish I could give you more info, but I don't know much about it. But you can definitely ask your doc about it, i'm sure they will be able to answer your questions.. When you find out let us know! By the way - 10 pounds in a month is GREAT!! I wish I could lose 10 pounds in a month! Goodluck with everything and keep up the good work!
