When I am full, a few minutes after I finish eating I will sometimes have a really really long, powerful burp.. It lasts for quite a long time.. it cracks me up actually! My husband is also impressed with it lol. We refer to my burps as a form of art...

I was able to eat two pieces okay, but when I went for a third it kind of slid to the back of my throat before I could chew it really good (slippery fish!), and it got stuck. It was my first real "bad" experience, the first time I slimed and vomited post banding, but it was my own fault. Just mentioning this to say be careful!!

How often do you exercise?
Mary-2b150 replied to Maurdan's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I try to exercise every day. If I don't exercise one day it just makes it five times harder to exercise the next day - gotta keep the momentum going, even if it's only 15 minutes! This strategy has gotten me up to exercising about an hour to two hours a day, and it feels great! Hope I can keep it up! -
It is the best thing I have ever done for myself! I'm not to goal yet, but for the first time I feel HOPE that I will actually meet my goals - it is such a good feeling!! Definitely it requires work on our part, but I was doing everything I could to lose weight without the band and I never seemed to succeed. The band gives me the edge I need so that my hard work will actually pay off!!

I think I learned to stop caring what other people thought of the way I ate when I was on atkins. People look at you like you are crazy if you are eating say a hamburger without a bun or something! I think it's easier with the lap-band than it was when i was on strict atkins. Now I just say I had a late lunch or am not hungry, and that's the end of that. It's all in the name of my health, which is much more important than what people think of me. My motto is "do what you need to do"!

Newbie has question about carbs and sugar
Mary-2b150 replied to citygirl4616's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As mentioned, we don't feel the "dumping syndrome" that gastric bypass patients do, however my surgeon warned me that eating foods high in sugary would make me feel more hungry and I would eat more and possibly stretch my stomach pouch. I do the best when I keep my carbs/sugars to a minimum. The lower the better in fact. It's amazing how addictive sugar can be! When I go without sugary foods I don't miss them, but as soon as I start eating sugary foods I can't stop! -
I feel the same way you do when I eat certain foods. They aren't mushy or soft foods but sometimes certain things just don't seem to fill me up no matter how much of it I eat. I think the secret really is protein protein protein. If I eat about 4 -6 ounces of protein before touching anything else I am usually satisfied and don't need to eat anything else on my plate. I don't feel like it's "dieting" because I tell myself if I am still hungry after eating the protein I can eat it, but I am usually satisfied and leave it alone. If I start with the other foods, I can eat and eat and eat it seems like. I understand your frustrations 100%!! I've been there many times.

On a diet messageboard I used to frequent they referred to this as "fat goggles". We look through the goggles and still see ourselves the way we were! Sometimes I'll see a reflection of myself out of the corner of my eye and I will have to do a double take.. is that really me - when did I lose all of that weight? I worry (just a little!) sometimes when I'm at a really low weight how I will deal with it - I have NEVER been thin so I'm wondering if I will somehow start sabotaging myself to get back to the familiar me. I hope I will be able to adjust - actually I just hope I can get to that point where it's something to worry about!

When did you really start losing weight
Mary-2b150 replied to brickgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I lost really really reeeeeeeeeallly slowly for the first 3 months after surgery. Around the fourth fill I started to lose more consistently. Restriction helped a lot - so did increasing the exercise though. But the fills really really help! -
Thank you so much for the video - that was great!! You did a great job in the interview and your results are fantastic!!

Foot pain...get better after lapband??
Mary-2b150 replied to weightisover's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
plantar fasciatis - totally gone!! Can walk miles and miles without pain now, and sit for extended periods of time and not feel pain when I get up. Every pound will make it better and better! -
I can't stand those kind of comments either. I hate that people think that skinny is the only way you can be beautiful. I'm sorry but I'm beautiful now and i'll be beautiful when i'm at goal weight - i'll just be much healthier along the way. I know I'm probably in the minority, but I'd much rather people didn't comment on my weight loss at all unless I'm related or close friends with them. I've gotten insulted by those kind of "compliments" so many times! I usually confront the person about it and explain why it's not a compliment - they always seem perplexed by my logic lol. It drives me crazy.

Congratulations to all of you!! I still have 30 pounds before I lose the label. I don't remember a time when I wasn't considered obese, maybe elementary school? I honestly don't know. I still have a long ways to go

Anyone doing Atkins after getting a lapband?
Mary-2b150 replied to marieze's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think it's very reasonable! Things like mayo helps keep you satiated so even though they are a lot of calories if you follow the rules of atkins it's a great way to lose weight. The fresher and moister the meat the easier it is to go down. Don't overlook tuna and mayo - very satisfying and healthy and easy to eat. You're correct, with the right restriction you can easily stick to it and eat smaller portions. goodluck! -
Around 3 weeks, I ate more calories then I should have! I had absolutely no restriction. I tried to make healthy choices and stay under 2,000, but eating less than that was very hard!

Did you lose weight before your first fill?
Mary-2b150 replied to sleepyjean's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I didn't lose any weight until around my third fill. Restriction makes all the difference! For those of you in "limbo" (had the surgery but no restriction)- hang in there! -
Congrats on your success!

Does your DH or SO know how much you weigh?
Mary-2b150 replied to cQQlgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
He's always known and I'm fine with that. I tell him my weight and he tells me his. It's easier that way when we lose weight together we get to tell each other our scale victories. If he didn't know he wouldn't have been all excited when I got into onederland! -
Poll: How much do you exercise?
Mary-2b150 replied to Anyalee's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've been thinking of getting a punching bag, but wasn't sure what kind of exercises to do with it other than hitting and kicking it. Do you follow a certain program or just do freestyle? any recommendations? -
Poll: How much do you exercise?
Mary-2b150 replied to Anyalee's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have to exercise everyday or I lose my momentum. I get on the treadmill and I tell myself I'll do at least 15 minutes in order to convince myself to get on.. but once I'm on I usually end up doing from 30 to 60 minutes no problem. I tried curves and it wasn't for me - didn't get my heart up enough to be an effective workout and their hours didn't work well for me. Bought my treadmill and love it! -
I'm confused about the last part - could you explain this a bit more please? I'm just curious. krispykreme and a coke certainly never helped me lose any weight
-
Count me in that group too! I come on here to post the most when I'm "proud" of my new ticker - it's really silly of me actually! Just fun to watch the numbers change in the right direction

I also spent close to $200 on a balance beam scale and I love it! It is super consistent and it tells me even when I lose 0.2 pounds. $200 was worth my sanity, the other scales I bought would tell me different weights every time I got on and off them.
