Oh, I came home Saturday.
-
I went in Thursday to have the surgery. When I woke up in the recovery room, I was told that my surgery took 5 hours! When he went in to do the RNY, everything went well and he was done with that in about 2 hours. Then, he saw a hernia (I knew I had one but every dr before Dr. Eagon would downplay it), and went to repair it. While trying to fix that he noticed my bowels were all tangled up with the hernia so in addition to the lap cuts I have, I also have an open cut on my lower abdomen which makes my recovery a little bit harder. I came home with a drainage tube also so that doesn't make it any better. It still doesn't feel real to me, except the fact that I am not hungry and have to force myself to sip liquids all day because I'm so focused on my physical limitations.

How are you doing on the liquid diet? I had my surgery with Dr. Eagon the 22nd. You're only 2 days away right? Good luck! I wasn't nervous the day of surgery, I was ready to get to the other side. I don't like the healing process though. It's hard for me to be down physically so I don't think it's actually hit me that I've had the surgery yet because all I can focus on is the pain/incisions.

I finally passed gas last night. I could hear it in there moving around so I got up and walked and passed some late last night (early this morning) and again this morning when I got up. I was glad it finally happened and it did eliminate some of the pain I was experiencing.

Not afraid of eating jello. My taste buds changed so much already that I just didn't care for it too much when they brought it to me in the hospital. It was sugar free but it tasted like pure sugar to me. Having a lot of trouble getting liquids in. I know it gets better though.

Yes, I initially I was on 6 oz every hour and now I'm on unlimited but I can't even take in more than that. I'm too focused on the pain I feel now. The Unjury Chicken Soup is AMAZING but I have no clue how I'm gonna get all 8 oz in. ???? I know this is just the beginning of a BEAUTIFUL journey but I can barely move. What little energy I have I spend walking through the house. Here's to hoping things get better as the days go by.

I came home today after seeing if I could tolerate your pain meds and drinking liquids. Still in a lot of pain. My RNY went off without a hitch. Then when my surgeon tried to repair a hernia, he had to open me up at the bottom because it was pretty bad. Although I'm in a lot of pain, it is worth it. I just need to make it over this hump. I can't do anything right now. I am full after a couple of spoonfuls of broth. Tastes have changed already. Thank God i have this compression garment on or else I wouldn't be able to do anything. Oh well, time to go take more pain meds.

I made it!!! I'm finally on the losers bench after a 5 hour surgery with a small complication. I'm in and out of sleep but wanted to check in and let you ladies know I'm ok. So glad to read everyone else is sitting next to me on that bench. ????

I have to be at the hospital at 7:30, go into the OR at 9:30. Never thought this day would come. It's been 2 years in the making.

I'm excited for you!! Good luck! I just got up to get ready to head over to the hospital.

I'm August 22nd too and I'm SO EXCITED!! I am only required to do a 1400 calorie diet for 2 weeks (which I'm on now), but I have done liquids most days and use protein shakes as meal replacements often. I too have used food in the past to numb my emotions but since I started this process it's been almost 2 years before I could finally have the surgery and I am proud to say the way I view food has changed already. Never in my life would I have thought McDonald's would not appeal to me, but surprisingly now (with my normal size stomach) I think it's disgusting and hate the sight of the Golden Arches. Lol.

Hello, I started this process October 2011, surgery date was scheduled for October 17, 2012. Got a call 10-16-12 that my insurance changed and I had to do a 6 month weight loss program. I did the 6 months, got my approval, now I'm waiting. My surgery is scheduled for August 22nd and I.CAN'T.WAIT! ???? Any other 8-22's out there???
-
Oh ok. I haven't had a problem with the staff but the wait is a factor. I got someone else's early date when they cancelled.
-
Yeah. His partner is on vacation or something and he is alone in his practice now so the dates are far out. Which program did you switch to?
-
Ok. I see this now so disregard the other post. Why did you switch? Congrats on your surgery date, ur right behind me. Will you be having it at Barnes also?
-
Oh you had Dr. Eagon in St. Louis also?? How far out are you?
-
Hello Kyle. I am from St. Louis also and having my surgery done August 22nd with Dr. Eagon. Congrats on your success!!
