help hiatal hernia
Newbeginnings replied to Newbeginnings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone. Thank you so much for all the responses I have gotton. I really appreciate it so much. I have hope again. Spiritus, thanks so much for telling me the size of your hernia. I really needed to hear that your's was 8cm and mine is only 5cm so maybe I will have to find another surgeon. I will see what he say's on the 30. Good luck on your great recovery. I hope and pray that I too will be able to join bandland. I just didn't want to do it and then have acid reflux all the time. That would have made it not worth it. -
help hiatal hernia

Do you know what size your's was? Mine is a 5 cm. Did you have a longer recovery period because of the hernia? -
Hi Cyndi, I know what you mean about d.w. I told her I did not want to get the bypass and she said"then don't. Don't feel obligated to get one". I was devastated and said"but I went through all this stuff to get a lapband and I want that" No sympathy whatso ever. Anyhow I am going to stick to my guns on the 30 and see what he says. He seems to be a very nice man. my only concern was he has only done a little over a 100 of these so that may be why he is so cautious. I will look into manchester, nh or ny if I have too before I give up. Do you live near burlington? I live down near Barre. Are you happy you got lbs and have you had trouble adjusting to your new life? thanks again.

Hitting the Wall at 6 Months....
Newbeginnings replied to TerriDoodle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
thanks for posting about your hiatal hernia. It gives me hope that you were able to get yours. How long ago was it and were you in more pain because they fixed your 5 hernia's . Do you know how big your's were? I will stick to my guns about no bypass. I think I will tell him if he won't do it I will transfer my records to another hospital and they will do it. Maybe if he see's how stubborn I am, he will change his mind. How come you had a 6 week recovery period? Is this because of the lifting thing? Do you have any acid reflux or problems now that the hernia is fixed? Ps. sorry I posted my problems her but I didnt know how to start a new link. Can someone help me with this? -
Hi Michelle and Cyndi, I am from vt too and have dr forgione for my dr. I was all set to get my date for surgery when he found a 5cm hiatal hernia so now I don't know if I can have it or not. I am crushed. He would rather i have an open roux-en-y gastric bypass. I am going to see him on Oct 30 so hopefully I can talk him into the lapband. I am not going to give up. Congrats on the great weight loss. thats awesome.

Hitting the Wall at 6 Months....
Newbeginnings replied to TerriDoodle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
hi everyone, I need help please. I have been working towards my lapband surgery and now after passing all the test and jumping though hoops, I was all set to get my surgery date when my dr. found I have a 5 cm hiatal hernia and now is telling me my only option is a open roux-en-y gastric bypass instead of the lapband. I am crushed. I do not want to get a gastric bypass especially an open one. Has anyone out there had a 5 cm hiatal hernia and still had the surgery and the hernia fixed at the same time? I wanted this so bad. I finally had something I have not had for a while...... HOPE -
Hi everyone, I haven't been banded yet but I too have 2 horses and I asked the doctor before and he said no problem. I have heard that active people have more trouble with a flipped port so I don't know if bouncing on a horse would do that or not. ps nice horse lessnless

Frustrating Psych Results!!
Newbeginnings replied to Anyalee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I passed my phyc test too. she asked me if i had ever tried to lose weight with exlax or making myself t.u. she also asked me a bunch of questions that weren't hard to answer like how sad are you now, what do you expect the l.b. to accomplish, how discouraged are you. things like that. I too, was worried about passing and thought i would only answer what she asked not get into it too much. thats too bad that you are stalled for another 3 mos. I have bcbs and have made it half way thru all the requirements and lost the 5% weight so far. they told me I was looking at Nov surgery if all went well. I guess it's the all going well that gets us in the end. I now have been diagnosed with hiatel hernia and might not be able to get the surgery unless they determine it is small so I feel your pain. Having to wait after going thru years of being unhealthy is terrible. newbeginnings -
Hi everyone, I have been reading everyone's comments and trying to gain as much knowledge as I can about the lapband. I am about half way thru all the requirments and just found out that I have acid reflux and hyatal hernia. Has anyone had this and if so were you still able to have the l.b. surgery? I guess It matters how big it is but I am so afraid I won't be able to get my l.B. because of it:cry. I am going for the scan down my throat on sept 27 so I am just praying that it will be small enough. If it goes well, they said I was looking at November surgery. Wow, I am scared and excited at the same time. Was anyone afraid they wouldn't be able to stick with it after? thanks for any help you can give me. I certainly would appreciate it. Newbeginnings
