Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy or Gastric Bypass for 100+ weight loss
lisalisalisa replied to cindyvirden.com's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi Cindy, When I started this process I was dead set again bypass. I did not want my insides re-routed lol. Someone I met made me think about it and in the end, I did bypass. I am so so so so glad I did!!! Here's why I am: 1. Better success rates 2. If you eat too much sugar it really makes you regret that! I need that, sugar is my weakness 3. I knew I only had one shot and was afraid I'd always regret not going "all the way". One surgery, do it right! 4. It has been so much easier than I thought it would be provided I don't overeat! That's true with the sleeve too. 5. I've lost 85 pounds since August! Need I say more? 6. I still haven't fully gotten the hunger back and wow it's awesome while that sensation is gone! I can only speak for myself but I know I'd have regretted going only 1/2 way (sleeve) for my one surgery shot. We all are different and have different issues/needs. Best move I ever made! Lisa -
I"m just over 4 months out and haven't had any regrets but I am really missing sweets With Xmas time here I miss making Cookies and eating them! What do you guys do for the cravings? Fudgsicles are just not the same.

Have any issues telling men about your surgery?
lisalisalisa replied to tkelizabeth's topic in The Gals' Room
I haven't told anyone. It is no ones business about your personal medical history. This does not affect their health in any way. Just do what feels comfortable to you, there is no right or wrong. -
Sometimes I feel I ate so much!
lisalisalisa replied to nicki763's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You aren't alone I feel that way too. There definitely are times I can eat much more than others. I think it depends on what I am eating though too. My feeling is that it comes from years of struggling with my weight. I'm down 60 pounds and that's amazing but I always feel like I'm only one HO HO away from being back where I started! I gotta think it's normal we feel this way after the road we've been on to get here. -
To those who had gastric bypass, do tacos make you dump? I remember someone said they did so I'm scared lol. It's not something I would think of as having sugar in it!

is it normal to have second thoughts!
lisalisalisa replied to Veritas02138's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Second thoughts are totally normal. You can't control other people only your reaction to them that's why i chose to keep my surgery a secret. I dint need approval or permission from others and i don't need their horror stories. This is one of the best decisions i ever made. I had my surgery three months ago and have lost 52 pounds. It isn't as though you will never eat those foods again, it just may be a while. Your life its going to get much better! -
Gallbladder Six Months Out!
lisalisalisa replied to DebbieG's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm sorry you are having problems. On the bright side, just think of how great you will feel once your gallbladder is out. When mine was removed i couldn't believe the difference. A gallbladder that is bad can cause you a lot of different symptoms you aren't even aware of and you will feel great. With all the exercise you are getting you should be able to bounce back quick. Best wishes for a speedy recovery! -
Not getting support. I don't understand why......
lisalisalisa replied to elizabet33's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Sometimes people are jealous of other's choices or threatened by them. I had lost my weight on my own a few years back and had two weight loss buddies on line. When I got a tummy tuck they stopped talking to me. They were angry because they couldn't get one. Really? You have to do what is right for you and leave the haters behind. -
I can only speak for myself but I learned real quick not to eat too much or I'd throw up, get nausea or have pain. That's a huge deterrant lol. I found that over eating is no problem at this point, I'm 3 months out. The price I pay is too high so no, I don't want it I am physically and mentally satisfied. Further, when I do crave something it moves out of my head faster than I can believe sometimes. I would think that the lack of hunger helps as far as that goes.

Protein, protein, protein. If you don't have enough you will be tired. You MUST get enough protein or this will not go well fir you. Use shakes, bars, food, whatever it takes.

Need some support here...
lisalisalisa replied to stephjoysm's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I know you don't want to hear it but these people are right. You bf should be standing up for you. If he won't, no matter how you feel about it now, you will grow to resent him. You can't have a serious relationship with a man who lets his family abuse you. It will come between you and make you miserable. She is a Bitch, no doubt, but your bf needs to step up and be a man here. -
Hi everyone, I'm on day three of the liver reduction diet and the shakes are killing me. They are horrible!!!! Its getting harder and harder to choke them down. My doc says it must be whey isolate and less than three grams of sugar, preferably one gram. Help:( I'm afraid this is going to be a deal breaker

Hello Everyone, I had my gastric bypass surgery 8/7/13 and I've been doing fine but I have a few questions. 1. I was hardly able to eat a thing right after surgery. Now I can eat at least double or triple what I could after surgery. Should my ability to eat have increased this much already? I feel like I stretched it out already or something lol. Yes I know that's paranoid but I'm still stressing over it. 2. Nothing seems to really bother me to eat so far, I have been lucky.....or not lucky depending on how you look at it. What is the real deal on fruit? I see so much conflicting information about it. I had some watermelon 2 days ago and it was soooo good. I immediately felt tired and took a nap. If I get dumping, I haven't experienced it yet and I hope not to. I am thinking it might have been a sugar crash though. Does anyone know how much fruit I can eat? 3. I am so freaking tired still that it's really annoying. I am napping every day and when I try doing things I get really really wiped out. How long should that last? I feel good except for that and it's certainly not a pain issue anymore. My primary doctor said it takes 3 months for my body to adjust to the changes from the surgery. I don't have that kind of time to get my energy back lol. I have none and it's making me crazy

OMG I am really excited to have found these! I'm sure a lot of you know about them but I just discovered them. For those who haven't tried them, they are protein bars that taste good, are extremely low in sugar (2-3 grams), very satisfying and 20 grams of protein! Best of all, the original line has NO sugar alcohols whoo hooo! I really dont want to have two shakes a day forever and, I wanted something I could travel with when necessary. Awesome!

I had those thoughts too that i can't eat these things ever again! That is so not true. After a while you will be able to eat them. Hers the big secret....for the first couple months you won't want them! When you have no appetite food is much less appealing. If you eat something you shouldn't then you won't feel well and you will think real hard before eating it again lol. Think of it as shock therapy when something makes you feel bad you really don't want to eat it. You may miss it but not crave it. Honestly, the food thing has been fine. What i want to do, , and i am fighting it daily, is smoke! Giving up both has sucked but given a choice, I'd rather smoke at this point. I just have to keep fighting it. You aren't giving up food forever, honest!!

You are in a really tough period. The good news is, that was by far the hardest time for me. I'm 8 weeks post op and it's getting a whole lot better. First of all, enjoy that lack of appetite because it makes not eating crap easier! I didn't want to eat either but that is getting better and better.....I hope not too much better lol. I had trouble getting the protein in too. Drink the shakes slooooowly. I found that the amount I ate (this is still true) it's a very very fine line between good and nauseaus. At 12 days post op I think I only got in maybe 600 calories a day. I stuck to mostly shakes. Drink/eat slowly. Don't push it! A little at a time more frequently may help your stomach. Really don't panic. I was the same way and that wasn't a fun time. It gets better every week, honest! Hang in there.

Everyone has different tastes. At this point, since I haven't had sugar in two months, they taste like a freaking sundae lol

Just HOW many pills do we have to take?

I take 3 a day. My doc said go for, it's harmless and it most certainly beats the alternative! -
Post Op paranoia and questions

Make sure the pain isn't due to constipation. It's amazing how awful that can be! -
It took me about 4 or 5 weeks before I was better energy wise. I slept a LOT until then! Make sure you are getting enough calories, protein and taking your vitamins or that will make you weak longer.
-
There shouldn't be anything in them that stalls you unless you are eating the ones with sugar alcohols. I don't buy those I stick to their original line. I'm just happy to not have to live on protein shakes!
