I'm also seeing more spam lately. It's frustrating. But a book that had been great for me is the "big book of gastric bypass" it's written by Alex Beecher (I believe) he's the one who runs the site. It has helped with so many questions that I have had. Also never be afraid to ask questions here, I've gotten so much support from everyone here it's amazing. Good luck on your journey

I have found that the only things I really have to pay for out of pocket was the psych eval and the class beforehand. The eval was 150.00 (I think) and the class is 250.00 (another I think). Those are the only things I was told were not covered. Good luck on your journey.

I had the same thing happen last year. Took my family to a amusement park and all I could do all day was watch them have fun. It hurt so badly because I'm usually the first one in line for roller coasters. I'm tired of being this way and I'm determined to change it.

The doctor that is doing the seminar is usually the one who you get, at least that's what they tell me. All the doctors are great there. It's never too early to start the pre op diet. They have a doctor you can work with at their center you can work with or your own doctor. Good luck on your journey and if you have any questions feel free to ask. This is a valuable site full of lots of support.

I'm also using St Vincent Carmel. Wonderful organization. Do you know who your surgeon is going to be yet? Have you started your 6 month diet?
-
First of all welcome! I know this is a hard process but it's going to be worth it in the end. You should call your insurance and ask what all is covered, it may be more than you think. Also the benefits coordinators at your surgeons office are a great resource. Hope some of this helps. PS What part of Indiana are you from?
-
I'm also using him. Small world! He's an amazing doctor and is very personable. Have they called you yet for testing?

Up north in Lafayette. Where are you having your procedure done? I'm using St Vincent in Carmel.

I'm so excited. I just received a call from the coordinator at my surgeons office and I'm approved for surgery. I thought I would not be being surgery at all so this has come as a complete shock to me. I actually started crying while on the phone. Now just to hear from scheduling and do my pre op testing. I finally am seeing the light at the end if the tunnel

I also was approved today. It is a great feeling to finally have that approval. About a hour after I got off the phone with the coordinator the satellite e office for the center contacted me to schedule my testing. Then let's not forget the class, that's going to come after I get my date which they said they would call me in about a week to schedule. It'll be here before you know it. PS I'm also from Indiana. What part are you from?

No date yet. I'm waiting for the call from the doctors office for that. They said it would be about a week before I got my date. I am scheduled for all of my pre op testing on August 1st. I know there is also a class I have to take also. Now it's another waiting game.

So I found out yesterday that I was denied for surgery by my insurance company. Come to find out they want more information that I wasn't asked by my doctors office to give. So now I have to get an ekg, chest xray, a TSH blood level, my diet and exercise logs for 6 months. Plus, I need to have a new sleep study done and get copies of my thyroid levels and ultrasound. It is only a small setback and I am determined to have this done. I am printing all my logs from my fitness pal and having my xray, ekg and blood work done Wednesday. And I just found out about the sleep study so I need to schedule that. I will prevail!!!

Feel like throwing in the towel...
ShirleyJ84 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So it has been a crazy ride for the past 9 months (I started my journey in June of 2013). When I started all of this I knew that my primary insurance did not cover surgery but my secondary did (and I advised the doctors office when starting of this fact). Well, here it is 9 months later and I am STILL getting the run around from my doctors office. The woman who submits the paperwork submitted it to my primary and not my secondary. When I asked her about it she played the dumb card and said she didn't know (she did since everytime I spoke with her I advised her of such and before she submitted to insurance). Fastforward to today and I am ready to just give up and not have surgery. I am tired of the runaround I am getting and am just about to forget about it. UGH!!! -

Thank you everyone for the positive thoughts. I contacted the doctors office yesterday and they have all the paperwork and I was submitted to my secondary insurance yesterday. Hopefully it's a quick turn around and I can get this done. I'm just tired of the hurry up and wait. -

What makes the whole situation so much worse is she's supposed to be the one person in the practice who submits to insurance but yet she has no people skills. Everyone that I have spoken with who had dealt with her never have anything positive to say. I wanted to stay with this practice due to the doctor being very good and it being a center of excellence. But I only have my secondary insurance until June and I need to make sure it's done before then. I'm just so frustrated -
Hello everyone, I just wanted to let everyone know I have been submitted to insurance as of today. Now I just have to wait and see what happens. I am hoping for a February surgery date but who knows how long my decision is going to take but at least I am on my way!!

Surgery in 5 hours...
ShirleyJ84 replied to caitiegirly07's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Honey, you are not a failure. I am still pre surgery so I can only go by what I've done. But I had a tubal ligation 3 years ago and wound up with cellulitis so bad I was in the hospital for 3 days. It sucked majorly. But before I was admitted I was at the same hospital 2 times prior (less than 24 hours was the latest one) and at another hospital and was discharged. I know it could never be the same as what you've gone though but I have been on the receiving end of feeling like a failure. I hope everything gets better honey and remember, we are here for you -
Thanks for the info. I have my last appointment on Wednesday with my primary doctor then everything gets sent in. I hope it gets approved quickly due to a new job I'm supposed to be starting next month. They told me I can take time off but I don't want to go in there and work a week then need time off for surgery. I guess it's a wait and see game now
-
I actually was wondering how long it took you to schedule surgery once your insurnace was approved through St Vincent's. I have my final preop appt before submission on Wednesday and just found out I got a new job yesterday. So I would like to have surgery before I start the new position. Thanks for the input.
-
Its been a crazy 8 months. But on this upcoming Wednesday I have my last doctor visit before everything is submitted to insurance. I can't wait. I'm tired of waiting and I'm looking forward to having surgery. I am prepared for this step and I agree with everyone else when they told me time would fly by. It certainly has. Seems like just yesterday I went to my seminar and spoke with the doctor about having the procedure done.

Nexplanon non stop bleeding
ShirleyJ84 replied to hkdontplay's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
How long ago did you get your implant put in? I had one put in about 3 weeks ago and was told for the first 3 months it basically would be non stop bleeding. But after that it is usual for it to go away or just have a light one. I hope this helps. I can only go by what my doctor told me. -
So the family is taking a vacation for the holidays. While packing I discovered I have twice as many bags as everyone else due to the size of my clothing. Ugh, I can't wait until February to have this surgery. I'm not doing it just for the smaller clothing size but also for my health. Maybe next year I won't have as much baggage....
-
I just got back from a cruise. The amount of clothing I had actually wasn't that bad. It was the fact that compared to my daughter's clothes they looked so much bigger. IT SUCKED! I am almost done with the 6 month diet (last appointment is on the 15th). Hopefully, everything will go quickly and I can get this over with. I am planning another vacation with my family later this year and I am hoping to not have to pack as much. Or if I pack a lot it will be a lot more cute clothes in smaller sizes.

The holidays were alright here. Went with the family on a cruise. I ate way too much but walked and exercised a lot. So hopefully I evened out. I will find out on the 6th during my next appt.
