    August Surgery List complete

Hi everyone, I'm mostly a lurker... Lol! But my surgery was in Aug. 8th. My HW was 223 lbs, SW was 210 lbs and today I am 178 lbs. so that's 45 lbs. it's not as much as most of you, but I knew going in that I would lose weight at a slower pace because I started at a 42 BMI. Regardless, I am thrilled that I've lost this much already. I'm having the normal stalls... But I'm still averaging about 2 1/2 lbs per week when I add it all together. I think that's a healthy weight to lose. :-) I struggle with getting in enough protein. I barely get in about 60g a day. So I know I need to increase that and drink more fluids. I don't think I've experienced dumping yet... At least not on as serious of a level as some of you. I have had diarrhea, biut I had that issue a lot before surgery so it's not really unusual for me. The one thing that IS unusual and a good thing is that I have regular BMs (sorry tmi). That to me is a plus because before surgery I would go a week between them. So overall I think things are going pretty good for me. I see my dr tomorrow for a follow up. I think he'll test me for any vitamin deficiencies. Hopefully I am doing well with those, although I sure could use more energy. I'm still too tired to work out. But that could just be my own laziness. Haha!
  2. That is so amazing and gives a lot of us hope! I'm also about 5'2" (5'1 1/2" some days). My starting weight as of July 23rd 2013 was 223 lbs. My surgery weight on August 8th was 210lbs. I'm now 3 1/2 months out from gastric bypass and I've lost about 44 lbs total. Its so exciting to see how far you've progressed and gives me something to look forward to.... Although I know I'll have some lose skin, but maybe it won't be so bad... :-) thanks for sharing!
  3. I'm so excited. Doc says I can do any exercise now. I don't want to do anything too strenuous in the beginning. I want to gradually build myself up. Any suggestions for some good workouts that incorporate cardio and weights but isn't to hard? I figure I would start off with 30 min a day and build up to an hour.

6 weeks post op and cleared to exercise

To add... I have worked out lots before.... Just wondering what you all are doing besides walking.... I was thinking maybe turbo jam from beach body or possibly insanity because you can go at your own pace.... And then incorporate some weights or resistance bands later on...
  5. The last few days I've been having almost 1000 calories a day. I've been getting between 50-70 grams of Protein per day and the carbs have been around 125 grams per day and fat has been about 28 grams per day. Does that seem like a lot to anyone? I don't know if I'm eating to much already. I'm at the tail end of phase 4. I've lost 26.2 lbs total. HW 223.2 lbs SW 210 lbs CW 197 lbs GW 123 lbs

One month post op and calorie intake

So my nut just got back to me. Here is what she says. I hope this can help anyone else that may have the same questions "It sounds like you are right on target. Typically patients take in ~700-1000 calories per day following surgery. Are you still drinking Protein shakes? As you transition to regular foods- the goal is 3-4 small meals per day, and minimum 50g protein per day. Refer to the example menu in your diet packet (it says 1 year post surgery but it can apply as of week #5 or 6)."

One month post op and calorie intake

Thank you, ladies. I'm going to try to get more protein in. Some days it seems really hard to get that much in. I can only stand to drink one protein drink per day. Bleh!
  10. I think this is fairly common. I'm approaching week 3 and haven't lost anything since the beginning of week two. I read that it's common to not lose anything around this time but the weight loss picks up again at around week 4. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

    Could use support

About 6 years ago I had a hysterectomy and woke up not being able to feel both hands. I could grasp things but I had no perception of how tight or lose I was holding things, my arms would fall, and I couldn't feel hot or cold. It was like that for three days. While I was in the hospital, I had an MRI that showed two bulging discs in my neck. It really scared me too. I had to see a neurologist and get physical therapy for a while. I still wake up from time to time not being able to feel my hands, but it goes away. When I had the gastric bypass last week, I explained that situation to the surgeon so that they would be more careful with the way they place my neck and arms. I woke up feeling fine and could feel my hands, thank God. I'm so sorry you went through this. Lori is right, the nerves will slowly repair themselves and you'll be feeling better. Just give it some time.

    Any other 5'5 ers?

I'm not 5'5". I'm 5' 1 1/2"... But my bmi was at 41 when I got started. My high weight was 223lbs. Surgery was on aug. 8th 2013. I lost 13lbs before my surgery date. So I weighed 210 the day I had the gastric bypass. Today I weighed 201.6 lbs and its only been one week since surgery. I am very happy that I chose bypass over sleeve. :-) I hope this helps.

    On full liquids

Ok so today I started on full liquids and protein shakes. I'm trying to get this protein shake down and it tastes too sweet and its taking me forever to drink. Blah! It's Boost Glucose Control Rich Chocolate flavor... It's 15g of protein for 8 oz. Any suggestions on getting this to go down? I'm thinking I should put the drinks in the fridge. I'm drinking this one at room temp.

    On full liquids

That's why I thought the boost glucose protein drink would be ok. It has 190 cal, 7g fat, 16g carbs, 4g sugars, & 16g of protein. But the chocolate flavor is icky to me.

    Weight loss

I had surgery on the 8th. I lost 7 lbs since surgery & almost 20 lbs since I started this journey in early July of this year. I have a feeling the weight loss might slow down a little when I'm able to eat more, but I could be wrong. :-)

    New Food For Post Ops...

Would you please email the list to me as well? Thank you so much for putting it together! Attractpositive@yahoo.com
  17. Well I am doing great so far since my gastric bypass surgery on August 8th. But today I am wishing I could eat regular foods already. All I can have right now are water, sugar free non fizzy drinks & sugar free Popsicles/jello and broth. *sigh* :-/ I can't wait to move to the next phase. I never thought I would be looking forward to eating cream of wheat.

    August Surgery List complete

I had surgery yesterday. I'm sitting in my hospital room doing ok. Just having pain under my ribs like pulled muscles. Had a few cases of the hiccups. That hurt a little. Haven't been up to walk yet but I will be soon. They brought me decaf hot tea and unsweetened iced tea and chicken broth for breakfast... Not to sure about the chicken broth just yet. Hmmmm....

  25. Well, I am sitting here at the hospital getting all of my pre-admission testing done. It's all just getting so much more real for me! Surgery is on August 8th. Eeeeeeek! And according to the dr. I've lost 7 lbs already. And I still have 9 more days on this liquid diet. So I'll be losing more before surgery. I'm so excited and nervous too!
