    Pain levels

I'm in week one and my pain was pretty rough the first couple days. They had me on a hydromorphine pump and I pressed that button every 10 minutes. Since I've been home, I take an oxy every 5-6 hours. I've been pushing myself a little more every day with walking and doing things, and I tend to start feeling it pretty hard by mid-afternoon. I'm also dumb and started wearing a bra too soon which I think has been causing me some unnecessary pain. No more bras for a week or so.

    August Post Ops

I also had surgery August 26th. Lot's of pain, but no complications so I can't complain. "Eating" and fluids are going great. Although I do of course have to force myself to eat and time things out so I get it all in throughout the day. Yesterday I just gave up by evening because I got sick of eating. Imagine that lol. Pushing myself to walk a little more each day. I try to walk a couple times at least. Grocery shopping, walking around my apartments. As for weight loss: Start of Weight Loss: 406 Day of Surgery: 376 Two Days after Surgery: 395 Two Days after being home: 381 This morning: 370 It's incredible to see how far I can come just a week after surgery. Can't wait to see what comes next!

    So nervous!

I forgot all about the half hour rule. Been drinking a couple of medicine cups slowly, waiting 15 mins, then drinking some more.

Tried milk of magnesia last night to get things moving after not going all day. I'll be fool if I am going to deal with all this pain AND be constipated. Almost made myself puke. It was close. But after an hour or so I felt much much better. Seems the tears phase is upon me. Crying for no reason. Fun times.
  5. I just don't see how there is enough time in the day to get in the 48-64oz of water along with another 100g of protein. How on earth do you do it? Can I count my liquid protein into my other liquids?
  6. Yup, 100g a day. Got it in the packet info they gave me. So far I am making it to about 60-70. But, up until yesterday I thought I had to count liquids and protein separately. Should be fine now that I understand better. Thanks all!

    So nervous!

I picked up some really great beef broth and hot chocolate at my surgeon's office. 15 grams of protein a cup, 8 more if you mix them with milk instead of water. They are made by Healthy Wise. I highly recommend. I had to stop by my sugeon's office yesterday for more because I underestimated how much I would want savory instead of sweet after surgery. Glad to hear you're doing well. Keep on moving!

Sorry to hear about the complications, seriousaboutme. Let's pray that the blockage is fixed and you can start healing now. Try to relax as much as possible. Take your pain meds as often as you're allowed. And as soon as they allow you to start getting up and moving, take it slow but do it as often as you can. You will be surprised how far you can come in just a few days. It gets a little better everyday.

    Reassurance needed!

Hope is not lost. You made yourself eat all that. It wasn't actual hunger. But it was dangerous pushing your healing stomach like that. It may be worth having a visit with a psychiatrist to get help understanding what makes you want to sabotage yourself like that. I know I have felt the same way in the past.

    liver shrink diet

Follow your surgeon's instructions. It's not about losing weight. It's about shrinking the liver. You do that by starving the liver of glycogen, which is what is produced when you eat carbohydrates.
  11. bloreorbust

    Ahhhhh on this liquid diet!

I was scared of what the consequences might be if I didn't stick to the rules. Some surgeons will open you, then close you right back up if your liver is enlarged. Shrinking the liver is imperative to having a surgery with as few complications as possible. You're gonna make it, and these last five days are going to go by so fast it will be a shock when you suddenly find yourself at the hospital preparing for surgery.

Meant to add I've been having a rough day myself. Nightmares last night messing with my head. Crying hurts like a son of a gun. Then I pushed myself going walking and grocery shopping yesterday and got behind on managing the pain. Pushed myself further today walking for about 45 mins and a rough carride. Carrides are no joke man. Owie. I was ready to punch my husband or bust the window by the time we got home.

Sorry to hear you're hurting, Mz Shay. Try to take your pain meds as often as you can to build them up in your system to get ahead of the pain. Then drop down to a lower amount or less frequent meds. But make sure to take them. You're going to start feeling better soon! Hang in there!
  14. Well that's a relief! I put off taking a nap because I needed to be awake to drink more lol. So that means I'm a lot closer to my liquid goals than I thought. YAY!
  15. My dietician recommends going lactose free after surgery. But there are some Premier protein shakes I have left that I would like to drink. I'm just scared to break rules at all because so far I haven't been nauseated or had any BM issues at all yet.
  16. Carry around a container of Mio water flavoring. Then you can always find a bottle of water and flavor it. I like the strawberry watermelon one, and there's a sugar free hawaiin punch one that is awesome.
  17. This is probably just paranoia, but it seems weird that I can drink 8oz worth of broth in just over an hour. I just has surgery Monday. Is it like that just because it is liquid and moving through my pouch fast?
  18. I gained 21lbs in 2 days at the hospital. Now after 2 days at home I have lost 14lbs. Maybe next week I'll start getting some actual weight loss. w00t w00t!
  19. So I seem to be holding about 15lbs of fluid. I came in on Monday at 376, and this afternoon hopped on a scale that said 392. I'm curious what the range has been for others. Not complaining at all, since I know it will "pass" lol.

How's everyone doing with their drainage site? Have you had more drainage at all sincr you came home? They took mine out the day I came home, but left the wound open saying there would be some additional drainage the next couple of days while it closes up. But I have had no additional drainage at all and have only changed the dressing once a day.
  21. Ok so no cause for concern then. Thanks everyone@

Just sip sip sipping away. Pho broth and the protein beef bouillon I have are amazing! Trying to remember to walk a little every couple hours. The swelling is going down a little more each day. Hey, I even managed to get a sports bra on today. I did almost over fill my pouch a couple times and that was hurty. But now I know what to do. All in all, I really can't complain.
  23. bloreorbust

    a lousy 4 and a half lbs

The scale is a liar these first few weeks. Don't trust it or be discouraged by it. Work on your nutrition goals which are very important for healing.

How's everyone doing on figuring out when their pouch is full? I think I am just starting to. It is pressure/pain at this point. There's like this warning signal that comes with it of "If take one more sip everything is getting ejected." Is it like that for others?
