What about decaf coffee?... This subject confuses me so many people say coffee is fine and others say no. My NUT said decaf was fine pre surgery but full caffeine was a no no. However she never said anything to be about decaf after surgery.

Let me start by telling my story. I had gastric bypass on July 16th after it being post poned for a week. I arrived at the hospital the morning of my surgery for them to tell me it was delayed again for a few hours. I finally got in and had the surgery. My surgery took 5 hours but it went smooth, except I woke up from surgery not being able to feel my left arm or leg like they were a sleep. I didn't think anything about it until it didn't go away by the next day. All the hospital staff told me it was from positioning on the table and it happens and will go away in time. After about a week and a half I realized I really couldn't feel when I needed to use the rest room I was just going by habit not by need. I called my general doctor and they told me to go to the emergency room. There they did an MRI to find out one of the discs in my back was pushing on a large group of nerves that controls bladder, and bowel functions and also helps with feeling in the legs.... The hospital had me transferred to another hospital by ambulance that had a better neurological team. That day they decided I needed emergency surgery on my back and they would do it first thing in the morning. (More hospital stays) the following morning I had the surgery on my back instantly the pain in my legs was gone but the numbness in my left leg was still there. I stayed in the hospital for 3 days and during that 3 days I couldn't have a bowel movement or urinate on my own still so they had to catheter me and send me home with the catheter. Since then I have got the catheter out thank god and I am using the rest room on my own however my left leg is still numb which has made me so depressed. I feel so helpless and useless since I can't walk well or do anything physical at all. I had the gastric bypass surgery to lose weight to be able to play and keep up with my 2 year old son but now I can't even pick him up let a line keep up with him. If I go anywhere that is going to have some distance I have to use a wheel chair. I should say I've had back problems with severe pain for years but never really any numbness. I can't help but feel like I made a HUGE mistake having the gastric bypass surgery since that is when all this started. I can't say if it would of happened either way but I did happen. I'm 4 weeks out and down about 35lbs today for the first time I got food stuck and threw up which just adds to my frustration and depression. I'm not looking for a putty party just looking for some support I need to make it through all this for my son and beautiful wife. Sorry for any grammar or spelling I typed this all on my phone.

So I'm 4 weeks post op and have been eating scrambled eggs for about 2 weeks. Well today I made scrambled eggs and they got stuck... I've had no problems with them before. Could something be wrong or maybe I didn't chew good enough??

I'm having problems getting all my water and protein it's day 4 for me after my surgery and only my second night home but I am finding it very hard to take in all my protein and water. I am peeing very little and it's super dark so I'm guessing dehydrated. Any tips??? Thanks.

I just threw them up its the first time since I had the surgery that I vommited. I don't think it's a stricture I ate chicken breast last night with no problems and liquids go down fine. I'm guess I didn't chew good enough or ate too fast. I was watching tv so probably wasn't paying attention.

Nerves grow very slow but they will come back in time. I'm 4 weeks out and I'm starting to be able to tell just fine. You got to make sure you battle the head hunger. Tonight ate a small chicken breast and was full but my head wanted more of course I ignored it.

Im 6 weeks postop: What is an average or normal
Big Wojo replied to elli'smommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not getting acne but my skin is so dry I'm like molting I'm 4 weeks out. -
It's normal. The nerves that tell your brain you are full have been cut in the surgery it will take them a little time to grow back. In the mean time keep doing what you are doing and stop before you over do it.

I woke up from my gastric bypass unable to feel my left leg he told me it was from positioning on the table but it turned out some how a disc in my back got messed up really bad either from laying on the hard operating table or from getting moved from table to table. Every time I called him to get advice about my leg he would talk angry to me saying it has nothing to do with him or the gastric bypass surgery. I understand its not his fault but some advice would of been great instead of attitude. If I need him for something again I'm probably going to see if another hospital will take me. I've gone through hell since my gastric bypass surgery and it kills me to say that.

Thank you so much guys. I'm gonna call my surgeon and see what he says if he even tells me that is. If not I might just press my luck. Not being able to walk without a walker is really taking its toll on me physically and mentally.

My surgeon has me on an acid reducer. I would try to talk to him but he seems to get annoyed when I ask him questions.

Welcome man and great job!!

My surgeon never gave me a clear answer and my general doc said wait at least 6 weeks post op. I'm not sure I can make it without them I really can't function right now so much of my body is inflamed.

Hi guys I had my RNY July 16th and there are times after I eat that I get very ill I'm not sure if its dumping syndrome or not. Today I tried egg salad mind you I have had eggs with problem but after the eggs salad about an hour and a half later I got really ill with nausea, head ache, and the feeling of diarrhea. I went to the bathroom and had a BMW it was soft but formed but I still had the stomach cramps for a long time after. I don't know if I'm eating too fast or what. I know a meal should last 30mins but it was a tiny amount of egg salad made with one egg hard to make last. Please throw me some tips I don't want to feel like this.

I've never puked either , knock on wood, but my intestines are always bubbling and I'm tired of it I don't know if I'm the only one or what. It feels like my intestines are always angry no matter what I do.

Gas pain 10 months out
Big Wojo replied to st.ephanie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 4 weeks out and have this same problem I get bad intestinal pains like gas or cramping. Not really sure what its from but I hope it passes. -
I also had my surgery 7/16 I'm doing ok but I get bad intestinal pains a lot after I eat. I'm also having trouble getting all my protein in and also have days I regret the surgery. Glad there are so many of us that share a surgery date! Lets all stay close so we can see each others progress!
