Caution- Chew Food to Applesauce!
mskami77 replied to manji2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's painful but it's also the best lesson to learn to chew chew chew! -
I met my deductible before surgery so I only had to pay 1700 out of pocket but my surgeon let me make payments. I had a partial hysterectomy at the same time so it increased my fees a bit.

I was able to eat apples, oranges, tomatoes and grapes at around 3 months. Everyone's pouch is different. I'd wait a month or so and try again but only eat a bite or 2 and wait to see what happens. I love fruit so I'm glad my pouch isn't opposed to fruit skins.

I love tuna! This looks good. I had a chicken breast over springs greens, cucumber, tomato, egg with lite parmesan Italian dressing. I should've taken a pic. It was yummy!

What helped you eat slower?
mskami77 replied to _Brooke_'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After the first time you get chicken stuck because you didn't slow down and chew well or you eat faster than the food can move and it hurts like heck, you'll be more aware. I used small spoons and forks and a eating timer on my phone to prevent future mishaps. It really hurts! -
Are you talking about the Bariatric Advantage grape multi? I just sampled it today. I liked the initial taste but left an aftertaste that I didn't like. I will be trying the others over the course of this week I take the ones by Nature Made.

So both drains were out in less than a week? Nice! Everyone I talked to told me 7-10days some even 14 days.

The grape vitamin D chewable and the lemon calcium chews are delicious so it's not really like taking a vitamin more like treats.

Brand New to Bariatric Pal and the Gastric Bypass process!
mskami77 replied to ebezi7908's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats and welcome! I'll be 2 years out in November. I'm excited for you! There's a FB group that I'm in for RNY. It's mostly women and we just love on each other. :-) Message me if you want more info. -
I take my multivitamins and iron in the morning. My vitamin D with my calcium after lunch then more calcium after dinner. I give myself a b12 shot once a month.

A picture I colored and baby blanket I just started for my step sister.

My hobbies are coloring, loom knitting, dancing and playing board games with my family. I want to start painting but I haven't taken the time to go get supplies.

Thank you!

I have Aetna and did the 90 days preparation for surgery. I was approved in days. Aetna is pretty easy as long as you meet the qualifications. I've only seen denials for people that had lower BMIs but they were approved after appealing.

Star Jones weight gain (80 lbs)
mskami77 replied to hopefullythininme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I really wish the media would use common sense before saying stuff like this. We all remember what Starr Jones looked like before. She still looks great! She may have regained a little but 80 pounds. I think not. Our bodies adjust to what's comfortable and that may not be a size 5. Honestly, for most of us we're happy just being out of the plus sizes and not shopping at specialty stores. Weight gain is preventable but you definitely have to figure out a plan that works for you and for some that may mean a little weight gain to learn what not to do. -
I started Zumba before surgery but resumed classes about 8 weeks out.
-
I'm definitely trying this! I've been making my pizzas on low carb veggie wraps. This would totally boost my protein count

You guys have boosted my confidence a tiny bit. I'm about a year away from getting my plastics done. It's nice to know most of you didn't have any issues with your drains.
-
My husband says he'll empty it for me but it's almost like a phobia when I think about having drains. I know it's weird but it's my primary concern. Thanks for sharing. I really want to move past the fear.

Argument for Surgeon as to Why I Want the Bypass
mskami77 replied to luvhermitcrabs's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Be your own advocate! Don't get the sleeve if your research and instincts tell you to get the bypass. I've worked in the medical field for almost 20years and can tell you all surgeons aren't created the same. It will suck to have to change doctors at this stage but you have to live with this decision while your surgeons is on to the next patient or making more money off performing a second surgery. My surgeons does sleeves and bypasses based on his patients needs. Be cautious with any surgeon that performs mostly just one type. -
You're going to look fabulous!

It'd be awesome to set up a meet up with all of us in Colorado Springs. There aren't many considering this is one of the fittest cities in the country. I'd love to meet you guys. Let me know if you're up for it.

Anyone Else Just Barely Still In Thirties?
mskami77 replied to Txsmama's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Does anybody here wish you had your surgery in your 20s? I have days when I ask myself why on earth did I wait so long! -
I really enjoyed doing the goodie boxes but the last 2 I never received anything back so I just stopped. That was over a year ago. Maybe I'll try it again. What if we did a monthly theme like cooking, hydration, exercise etc. Just a thought. :-) my email is kfauese@gmail.com
