I was in an abusive relationship with an addict(drugs/alcohol) for many years until I had a loaded gun to my head and woke up for my kids. I got out of that relationship and found the man of my dreams. We had our issues but he's loving and kind and I was 300+ pounds and he still loved me for me. We're going on 10 years next week and I'm so glad I walked away from that mess I was with before. There is a better man for you. Don't sell yourself short.

How long did it take you to lose that much? Did you have bypass or sleeve? I had bypass and it took less than 1 year. I still want to lose another 25 pounds but I'm slacking so I've been stalled for awhile. Its all my doing. -
I definitely had skeptics but they were on board before long. You're still very young. Many years ahead of you! This surgery will improve the quality of your life. I was rollerskating with my kids 3 months after surgery. I hadn't been in skates since my teens. It's been amazing! I feel like I'm finally the person I should be for me and my family. I'm so excited for your journey!

New foods tried after surgery...
mskami77 replied to Trayjay33's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hummus is great with any color bell pepper or mini peppers, carrots, celery or in a lettuce wrap with olives, tomatoes, cucumber and turkey. Occasionally, I eat a couple black bean tortilla chips with hummus mixed with salsa. So good! -

I was a squatting fool for the first 12 months after surgery. Still lost all my booty. But all of a sudden it's starting to come back and I'm not doing much just taking the stairs every now and then. I have some lose skin on my belly, arms and thighs but not too much. I still want to get some work done eventually but I'm in no hurry. My husband is just happy I finally have some shape back there he was little upset about that part. Lol -
I had surgery in Alaska where I had lots of support at work, at church and my support group. We moved here last year and I pretty much lost all my support. It's been a struggle ever since. I've lost about 20ish pounds since we got here but I really want to hit my goal. I'm 38. How about you? Do you have a support system in place?

TIPS ON EATING SLOW
mskami77 replied to Savannah Lee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All of the above and you can try eating with your non-dominant hand. It'll definitely slow you down unless you're ambidextrous. :-) -
BariatricPsych.com. Has anyone used them?
mskami77 replied to Pinkgirl1234's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My psych evaluation was covered by insurance. I just paid my normal $15 copay. I've never heard of bariatricpsych. Hopefully others will chime in. -
I'm doing well. I feel great but being almost 2 years out I can eat more and losing the last 25 pounds is challenging. I just started exercising again and eating right. So hopefully I will start to lose again. I've been maintaining between 181-186 for almost a year. My vitamin levels are great! I wish I had done it sooner. I'm an open book so you can ask me anything!

I'm in Colorado Springs. I had surgery 11/19/2013. I actually adopted my puppy from a rescue in Longmont. When did you start the process to have surgery?

African American RNY Sisters
mskami77 replied to mzheatherp's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I love my rny! I have several really great friends that are doctors, nurses, dieticians and pharmacists. When I let people know i wanted to have wls, they supported me by working out with me and helping with my meals at work. They tried to talk me out of it but then they saw the changes weren't helping me lose weight. I got a unanimous vote for rny over the sleeve. 3 of the people in my circle have written internationally published medical articles so I trust them. I'm glad I did. I'm almost 2 years out it's been amazing. They also helped me research my surgeon to make sure he was worthy. Lol. I almost had to fly outta state. -
I use leftovers for my crockpot meals also. If I serve a meat with sides for dinner the kids ask me if we're having soup, beans or casserole tomorrow.

Costco had the big jars for a little over $5. I use it in my shakes/smoothies and in yogurt. I've blended it with chocolate protein and coffee for a pb mocha.

It's an independent decision. I don't think there's a right or wrong way to go. I'm an open book. I've shared my surgery with total strangers but I see it as a blessings so its a responsibility to share with others that could benefit from my story. Today I just told someone that I had gastric bypass only to find out her sister was in the hospital recovering from RNY. She felt so relieved and asked me if I would help her sister because she doesn't have anyone around her that understands this lifestyle. Of course, I agreed. :-)
