My surgeon let us all know in orientation he will not perform surgery if you gain weight but he doesn't require weight loss. If the requirement to lose weight is based solely on insurance, you definitely should contact your insurance company. It might give the chance to make a connection with a case worker or nurse coordinator. I called my insurance to ask a bunch of questions and I ended up with a case manager. She calls me every couple of weeks and we talk about diet, activity, stress and whatever else comes up. She is also in touch with surgeons office and plans to make her own recommendation when the paperwork is submitted. I'm praying for a quick approval. :-) Good luck!

Emotional eating and dealing with stress
mskami77 replied to tinkycheeks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Part of my prep for surgery includes finding an alternative to eating when stressed. So my dietician wanted me to find a hobby to keep my hands busy and keep my mind off food. I started loom knitting. Its easy, doesn't take too much thought and I can do it while spending time with my kids without eating their snacks. :-) I also have to take walks on my breaks at work to help with work stress. -
I'm ok with it

A whole new set of problems!
mskami77 replied to futuremrsparker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the same boat with ft work, school, husband and 4 kids. I haven't had surgery yet but my crock pot and my George Foreman grill are life savers. You can make all kinds of meat quickly with the George Foreman add veggies it's dinner in less than 30 min. I try to prep my food into meals after I grocery shop. It takes some planning the first few times you do it but then it gets easier. You can prep meals in freezer bags. I like to separate my chicken and put the marinade or sauce on and freeze. Throw it in the fridge to defrost over night and put it in a crockpot on your way out. Just a few ideas. I was spending close to $800 a month on fast food when I first decided to go back to school. It took my family some time and teamwork to get it all sorted. Hope this helps. -
LMBO! That's hilarious!

Hello Everyone Newbie Here!

I am required to attend at least 3 support groups. I've gained so much knowledge from the groups that I try to attend a meeting at least once a week. -
Hello Everyone Newbie Here!
mskami77 replied to Shauna29's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi LaShauna! I'm in the pre op phase too. I'm hoping to have my surgery in October. My surgeon offered a dietician for $350 for all 3 visits. I'm not sure if all programs require 3 visits. -
I had to pay a 200 program fee. I haven't had my surgery yet so I'm not how much my out of pocket will be after my deductible is met. 2000 for physician fees seem excessive. I would ask for a break down of what the fee is for. Don't sign anything saying you'll pay it until you know exactly what it's for. Good luck!

What type of pre op tests are you or did you undergo?
mskami77 replied to socialbutterfly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I finally finished all my pre op tests. I just have to do my 3 month preparation then hopefully surgery in Oct/Nov. :-) I had to have labs, chest xray, upper gi, abdominal/pelvic ultrasound, EKG, h pylori test, pulmonary function test, pysch eval, pulse oximeter overnight test and an oxygen uptake test. -
I'm so stressed out trying to balance work, school, family and church. I really want to have this surgery and I'm doing all the appointments but I can't stop stress eating. I find myself putting stuff in mouth when I'm not hungry and its always junk. I've been logging my food but for the last 3 days I couldnt even remember what I ate. I haven't gained any weight but I'm not losing either. The worry is setting in and I'm wondering if I'm ready for this. I want it so bad but I'm having a hard time making the changes to be ready for surgery. Advice please!

I gotta go on Amazon. I pay 9-10 at Wal-Mart. I'm in Alaska so we pay a couple dollars more for just about everything.
