It is interesting to see how little I really eat. Also will be interesting to see what the scale does when I get back home. We are staying in a hotel and we have breakfast included. This is what I ate.Half a soft boiled egg,.25 of a arabic flat bread, about half an once of brie cheese, one teaspoon of hummus, half a slice of deli beef.A cappucino before I ate. Then at 12:00 2 pieces of beef jerky. At 2:30 we ordered lunch.I ordered a beef burger that looked so great I told the kids to get the camera,Im going to eat the whole thing...lol.Well,I ate .25 of the hamburger patty because I first saw some lettuce leaves with a little balsamico and I had to eat that.At 17:30 we decided to have a pina quilada in the sea while gently rocking on our chairs in the water. This made me so nauseous I am still recovering...lol.Also a bit giggly as I still havent learnt to stop after half a drink which would have been just enough. Now there is a international buffet my family wants to go to and I will have to see what I can eat. The thing is I am totally HOOKED on protein pancakes. It is so crazy!I miss them so much when I cant have it.It like a meal, protein and pudding all in one for me and I just love them! Tis stupid scale at the hotel weighed me 3 pounds heavier than my home scale just whe we arrived and of course this makes me paranoid.Hope it isnt right though I doubt it. We went on the boat today with the kids on the tube.Tomorrow we will go and snorkel ar Dibba rock and then join the kids for a joy ride on the banana tube just to show how brave mom's gotten. We played badmington on the beach for a long long time and my energy is endless now. Life is so different now that i am so much lighter.I dont sit and watch everyone do the fun things any more,I participate in every thing there is to do. I cannot wait to go skiing some time early next year. More than anything I cannot wait to lose this last 30 pounds so I can start looking into plastics. My butt is hanging behind my knees and no bathing suite stays over it.I am constantly pulling and tugging to keep it in place and will seriously have to look for a different style one.The wrinckly skin also bothers me a little, but hey,I dont know anyone one here so am not too self concious (spelling!) Life is good and not even the cold I have could spoil the fun this time around!

Hi Surgery day 297 today 187.But it is going frustratingly slow now! Am starting with the personal trainer on Monday.
-
So here we are on our way for another weekend away at the beach. At the moment I have a bad cold and flu.Didnt take any meds until just now. I got some loritadine with pseudo noreffedrine (or something like that) Wasnt sure what it would do to my tummy and an hour and a half later I know it still doesnt like meds. Will take some nose spray and panadols from now on as I dont like this full swollen feeling I have on my tum now. The fabulous thing is I HAVE LOST MY APPETITE now for aver a week.I think for the first time ever. After the sleeve I never once didnt feel like earing, now I just cannot even look at food. The bad thing is for the first time I am not getting enough protein and seeing as my hair is still falling out at 8 months, this is a bit of a worry. Because I have severe bathroom issues since the sleeve my main focus is protein with ispagulla husk and vitamins as I am not absorbing the vits very well at all. When some labs looks ok,others drop. After reading some newish studies on iron deficiency 3 years out,I am very concerned about this.Iron supplements causes constipation for me and I cannot take it at all as an addition. Now,trying to eat enough food with enough iron seems quite impossible at the moment. When I eat enough iron rich veggies,I cant get enough protein. When I add the fibre supplement,it keeps me full for hours and hours and cannot eat enough of anything. We dont find fibre gummies here and to import it I will have to permission from the ministry.Which I will tackle next week as why cant I just order it online and import it?There is a list of banned medications as long as life itself and I will have to check and see if fibre gummies is on the list...lol I sometimes dont think people in the US realize how lucky they are to have all the resources that they do.Life is so much harder without some things. At least the hotel food sucks so badly (really bad food for a 5 star) that I wont be tempted to eat too much. What is a challenge for me is the pina quiladas that I like way too much.Dont like other cocktails so am not tempted but this place makes a mean PQ.And the weather is stunning.Hot,but not too hot, clear skies! This morning my weight was 188.Slow now,but at least coming down all the time. I also finally arranged to work out with the personal trainer from monday next week as the holiday is around the corner and I am still like jelly!Hope I can at least tone some in the next 6 weeks. Sometimes I do worry about the long term problems I see people have with the sleeve. Many have iron issues and others have GERD.I pray that the Lord have mercy on me as I dont know if my very expensive private expat medical insuarance will ever pay for anything related to the surgery. It is not always non compliance that causes complications sometimes its just bad luck. But it surely seems like a very fine balancing act to get enough protein, firbre and the correct amount of every vitamin we need.I think maybe drinking a protein shake every day forever might help some of the issues but not all of it.And not ever eating the food that I know will cause reflux (lots of experience with this and food does make a huge difference even though some people will not admit it) Ok,long update. But quite necessary to see I have to go and get those protein pancakes with fibre that I made for breakfast (its almost dinner time here) and eat them.It feels somewhat aurreal to me to have to force myself to eat.Wish it could stay like this until goal!

Do Non-Sleevers Eat This Much Protein?
desertmom replied to doxieville's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The body process/ absorbs about 5.5g per hour in a 150 pound individual.Person of about 200 pounds plus minus 7.6g. Interesting thing about whey Protein is it leaves the body within two hours after taking it.So taking more than say 21g at a time is a waste for most. The high protein we have to take is to make sure we get enough every day.It is better to have some form of protein every 3 hours. Different Proteins are digestedand absorbed at different rates though. That is why it is also better to eat/drink different types of protein during the day. There is different opinions on how much protein a healthy normal 150 pound person needs but it ranges between 50 and 60g per day. -
Yes,I vomited bloody foam the first 24 hours, then clean foam the next 24 hours and day 3 when I started sipping warm tea it really helped. For the first 3 days at home a sip was this.5ml from a teaspoon, swirled around in my mouth, allowing it to trickle slowly slowly into my throat.Literally drops at a time. Week 2 for me was much better but my sleeve was swollen for a long time. The difference is remarkable once the swelling goes down.O,and I was sipping like that day and night to get even a little Fluid in every day.The warmer liquids did help though. Hope the swelling goes down soon.Just keep trying all the time, one sip at a time.Wait,another,wait..ect.And blow that spirometer thingy every half hour. That seemed to have helped a lot with the pressure feeling I had. Let us know how you are doing.

Im So Excited That I Just Cant Hide It...
desertmom replied to sleeve_sister's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So happy you are doing so much better now. Great weight loss! Enjoy! -
Hi,it is normal.A month out my family felt compelled to intervene..lol.I wasnt talking much anymore,on the ipad all day, weighing and measuring, counting and obsessing. And depressed. Once I started getting out more, normal routine and life,I felt way better. Just take it easy,it is a big thing that we did and the change makes some of us obsess a bit. You are far too impatient at this point. You will feel normal again and you will accept what you have done,in fact, you will still be profoundly greatful at some point. Just relax and take it easy.Cut yourself some slack. Ps.as for the diaree, see if it isnt the Protein shake. Some of us become lactose intolerant for a while and I personally couldnt do the shakes for quite a few weeks as they upset my new tummy too much. Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

Why Have I Gained Weight At 3 Weeks Post Op?
desertmom replied to LDallas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So maybe its the lack of the diutretic causing the increase in weight. The stall is normal for 3 weeks. When I dont take my BP tablet I am up 5 pounds in 2 days easily. Or maybe it is just the transition back to food that cuased it. Dont weigh to often now.You will lose weight but you might also go stark raving mad, like I did if you allow the scale to dictate your progress. Cannot be fat,so dont worry too much about it (difficult,I know) -
If your plam says you must eat, then you must try to eat at least some. The sugarfree pudding isnt a must at all,I dont think.Didnt like the taste of sweet stuff at all for 2 months. But its part of the whole process to get back on solids so try at least a bite here and there. It will get better and you will still yearn for the days where you didnt want to eat..lol Lets see what others say!

Hi, I thought doing it all, hitting Protein target EVERY day, drinking all the right supplement, bla bla bla...would, if not prevent it,help for it to over quickly. At 7 months I thought it was falling out a lot less but just recently the hair fall has increased a lot again. And I just cannot figure out why its not stopping. What I do know is there is nothing I can do about it.I laughed when I read you saying you'd hate to be skinny but bald as just today, for the first time I said whatever to the Protein shakes and didnt make target (I have a cold and feel very queezy) and decided to get sinny even if I have to be bald...lol. Even after 4 months of losing at least half of the hair one still cannot see my scalp so thats ok. You'll be fine too.
-
I thought it was just me..lol At the moment I still weigh 188 and that in my book is still fat. However,I now fit nicely in a 16 and some 14's and low and behold yesterday I bought some 12's.And the 16 isnt really too big.But then here we have UK,US,German,Korean!Chinese,South African ect ect clothes and all the sizes are different. But buying a 12 for my big body just seems plain wrong!

Hi When I low carbed before the sleeve I had that too. Now after the sleeve, when I drink Protein shakes I seem to feel extremely irritable.I think, for me anyway, it is high protein intake that does it.I now try to spread the protein intake evenly over the day and that really helps. My family can immediately tell when I have upped my protein from 65 to 85g as I am really grumpy then.I've also started trying to increase my veggies for some produce carbs but it seems like a losing battle as then I go too low in protein again.

Changing Things Up
desertmom replied to TheNewSusie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried eating more and had popcorn one night out of frustration and now I weigh 2 pounds more...go figure one wrong thing can do that...lol Have dropped it to 600 and nothing,nada,zero.... I guess we just have to wait it out! -
Hi,I've got a cold now and I've struggled a little to eat.Have added a second shake today. It also seems my weight's bounced up 2 pounds for no reason but it might just be gone in a day or 2,I hope!
-

What's The Longest Time You've Been In A Stall?
desertmom replied to Ms.Rosie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hallo Between month 5 and 7 I had a seven week stall. Then I dropped 14 pounds in 4 days. Averaged out to 2 pounds a week. I've just lost nothing for 3 weeks and since 2 days ago dropped 5 pounds. So I still expect more..lol -
Ok,I have assumed that. But do they expect you to actually stick to the 1000 or 1200 cals for 6 months and dont people lose just to much weight to qualify for surgery then? Just asking because I lost 70 pounds in 6 months on a 1500 cal diet that I really followed by the book. Again,Im just trying to understand what makes the patient qualify? Is it the success with the diet?
-
Now,forgive me for asking.I live in a different world I think.(Dubai)Dont know how your medical insurance works. What is the purpose of this 6 month diet?Is it to lose weight?
-
I keep a couple of packets of Weight watchers 100 calorie choc chip mini Cookies handy just for days like that.Usually a packet like that is jus enough to satisfy the craving IF I EAT THEM SLOWLY.I have forgotten to slow down a few times and they were gone way too quickly to satisfy my craving. Now I enjoy them slowly! Nabisco also makes the 100 cal packs of cookies.
-
Tink2222,thanks.Yes,the fact that I might REALLY get thin,is slowly sinking in because of the numbers I see on the scale! It will happen for you too!It does feel like a victory!
-
today I weigh 189.5 You've got to love the sleeve!

Revision Or Not? Need Advice!
desertmom replied to Nicole Sikes's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Reshiapooh96 The thought about it being permanent and not being able to unfill if you get symptoms...I reasoned like that for 5 years while not know what else to do and regaining 100 pounds. Now,anyone can have complications with any surgery, sure. But statistically complications are quite low.And long term comps as I can see it is mostly heartburn or reflux but not too many have it out of control either. The thing is I waisted another 5 years of my life wondering, worrying about this. And 8 months out I can tell you I now go through phases where I mourne the loss of those 5 years and the regain of those 100 pounds as after the band and the weight loss I didnt need any plastics (maybe boobs but no one sees them and I can hitch them up quite high..lol) Now,I am going to need to do arms, legs tummy and boobs.I am still so mad at myself for this as I hate surgery but I look terrible and will definitely have to do it. If you can lose it without the sleeve en get rid of the band and change your life by yourself. But the bottom line is we have to lose the weight as it will kill us sooner rather than later. The qualitly of a very obese persons life is so much lower and life is just so much harder wit so many aches and pains. And it gets worse as we age! Good luck to both of you and dont let the fear that made us do the band, because it isnt permanent, stop you from have a great long healthy life! -
Im going to fitday this recipe as it really looks yummy.Would be interesting to see the cals and carbs.

Vsg, Auto-Immune Disease And Complications
desertmom replied to Fiddleman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Difficult. Becaue we've had the surgery we know its worth the little struggles and we know how life changing it can be. Maybe just back off and let her see how the sleeve have improved the quality of your life. With a bit more time she might try another diet and come to the decision by herself. For sure you being thin and her not, will have an impact on your lives as you will become even more active and she will not.She will observe this in time. We all prosess things differently and at a different rate. 150 pounds overweight means she is quite obese and for most of us it was highly unlikely that we would lose that much by ourselves. I truely hope she decides to do this as living with that much extra weight is not fun.Even if you are an upbeat positive person.
