Can You Drink Milk Post-Op?
desertmom replied to NJsharon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dr said skim milk was fine from day 3 but I could not tolerate milk until about day 10.It is a lot better now. -
Realizing that I didnt talk about the surgery itself much, that is what I will do today. But first: surgery day was on the 13th of March 2012. I weighed 287 on surgery day,292 for the first week post op and I am 267.5 today.....almost 20 pounds down plus the extra I had in fluid weight after surgery. This makes the whole experience worth it....or almost.Last night I regretted putting of our road trip through the USA....I would have liked to have sampled all the different lovely foods that they show on cooking channel, and the food seems to be especially decadent in America....o well, too late now..LOL Surgery day and day 1 after was extremely difficult for me. I was not really prepaired at all for what I experienced...even though I had the band before. But if I could survive that, any one can!

I do and let me tell you,the experience with them is weird. Some mornings it is dark purple and I am not down any weight. Then, like this morning,it shows no ketones but I am down another pound. In the evenings it shows no ketones,I seem to have them only in the morning. I am using them because I had them and dont think I will find a better time to use them...LOL

Eating Is A Chore Now!
desertmom replied to Sleevorama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
O my goodness,I wish I could feel like that...forever! -
hi Well its been 2 weeks and I am interested in everyone else that had their surgery in March. What are you eating/drinking now? are you still losing weight? Do you have any pain during the day while on the move? Oh,and are you back to your normal routine life as it was before surgery? Are you exercising yet?Walking and such. So,I am now doing mushy, very mushy almost liquid though.deli Turkey or chicken makes a beautiful mousse.I drink huge cups of tea with skim milk about 2 per day. Then the old faithful, the beef rib Soup liquidized and finally the hated Protein powder...it really earks me to have to sacrifice 220 of my precious calories on something as revolting as the Protein drinks...LOL WEIGHT LOSS have slowed down, still going down point something every day though.I am back to my normal routine and I find it exhausting.I have a pain in my back and abdominal area when I stand or walk but when I sit it is gone.I am not really walking for exercise yet..reacon I walk enough in a day at the moment. All in all doing well considering I only started losing anything at about day 6 after gaining 7 pounds in hospital and not counting those which I just refused to acknowledge I am now down 17 pounds. But I do miss eating. And I suppose watching cooking programs dont help much!

Today I started the day fast.I wanted to have yogurt with protein powder but could only manage some as it was just to sweet....hehehe,a first ever for me,something being to sweet to eat. Went for tea with a friend and came home only at 15:00.I made a smooth protein thingy with 4 slices of turkey lunch meat which went down well.Only came home again at 19:00 and by then I had had quite a quite a bit of water but I also had a stomach and back ache like you wouldnt believe.the back ache is high up,where my bra is a little to the left directly behind the stomach ache. Made some liquidized, strained soup and had that.wanted a little sweetpotato liquidized and really struggled with all this.Another first for me since this surgery.I never struggled to finish even a full cup of soup before. I think that I should eat a little more frequently as it is only liquids, and I shouldnt be on my feet so much yet. My one incision is a bit wet and red and if you see what the scars look like on the outside it makes you realize it is not healed altogether on the inside yet. Tomorrow,I will make time to just sit every now and then. And I will take it a little easier. I should also start tracking my intake a little better but I am super careful at the moment and actually know exactly what I am taking in.For future reference: 100ml yogurt, half cup turkey mousse, half cup strained beef soup, sweetpotato soup made with 120g of sweetpotato and NOT ENOUGH protein.about 40g in total. The calories were about 550-600 calories for the day.I am happy with this for now.

Had Surgery March 9Th And Only Lost 15Lbs Im So Sad...
desertmom replied to mandy 92281's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi,it will come off...just be patient. Its so funny how easy it is to say this to someone else and then to freak out about he same thing but today I am saing this to you and me...our goal for April 9 is the same. Now,drink that water and Protein...xxo -
So,what I thought was a problem might turn out to be a blessing. I dont know how big or how small the dr made my stomach...what can I do about it at this point anyway? The fact that I can drink so much more and with such ease might turn out to be a blessing.I think if it is difficult to drink that in the long term, people will drink less. In summer it gets up to 50 degrees celcius ( 130 farnheit) here in Dubai and you need plenty of water to not cook in summer. I also know that I will use the next 12 months to teach myself how to eat and apreciate less but quality foods, for the rest of my life. In the next few weeks I will join OA and I will seek the help of a therapist if neccessary. This will not be just another food limited low carb diet. At the moment I am struggling to do the protein.I am still on full liquids and the yogurt, soup and protein powder (1 scoop) does take me to 600 cals or more but not to 60g of proteins per day. Must say, eating will be better for getting the amount of protein per day. 9 oz of fish, poultry and meat or eggs per day will give you the right amount of protein,I think. You live, you learn!I dont know how to stay in the calorie limits.I DONT KNOW WHY!

1) Gum Chewing And 2) Straws
desertmom replied to gettinthinner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi ,My dr told me (yesterday) when we talked about acid, that chewing gum is great for lowering the acid in the stomach as the saliva is alkaline....I have never heard about this so this is an interesting topic for me...doc said chew, chew, chew the gum. xxo -
Hi,maybe just change what you eat a bit.A liitle less cottage cheese,a bit of greek yogurt, some nice liquidized soup.just like with any diet variety is really neccessary. And just maybe add a day or 2 with more complex carbs...just to shake it up more..keep it up though.Doing the right thing will be rewarded with weight loss

3 Days Post Op Help!
desertmom replied to aaeactive_gm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok,breathe! It will get better, every day will be a little better. Some people do well with cold stuff.I couldnt touch it. Plain chicken broth, hot.Beef consomme, hot.Herb tea, hot. These were the ony things I could take for the first 5 days and then boom,it changed.Dont worry about the Protein for now. I drank every thing very hot ( burned my lower lip 6 times in those first few days) Nothing sweetened went down at all,not diluted juice or milk or anything. Just hang in there,it does get better. xxo -
Kinda Feeling Down About My Weight Loss
desertmom replied to cab0ad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Isnt it crazy how people follow this intense low carb diet until they reach goal weight and way beyond and then when they regain weight after 2 years or so no one can understand it?I really blame the dr's and their diets for this.Thank goodness our dr have a little bit of a different approach. When I said eat some complex veg carb ( healthy) it was just to give your body the reassurance that it is getting enough carbs now it can let go of the weight...it actually works with any low carb diet. Anyhow, good luck and I do hope you will lose soon xxo -
Kinda Feeling Down About My Weight Loss
desertmom replied to cab0ad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everytime I up my calories I lose another 2 pounds. Also, you are almost no carbs not even just low carb.Try shaking things up with that too.Make yourself a sweetpotato mousse for a meal or just try to not eat the same things for a few days and add some carbs and calories for at least 2 days. I have put all your food data into myfitnesspaland it works out to less than 300 cal,32g Protein and 11 carbs.I presume you do drink Protein Drink to get to 60g of Proteins. Ayhow, just shake it up a little.Do something different.dont be scared to up the cals if it really is that low....you will see it really works.there was a threat on here about this just earlier in the week..you are earting very little,no way that you wont lose weight in the end. Good luck and letus know if it works. xxo -
My sleeve surgeon said they now only take bands out, they dont put any in anymore and that his experience now after 10 years shows him that it will have a 100 persent failure rate. Anyhoo,we are all desperate enough to do something drastic, she must be too. xxo

The thing about people that had surgeries is they dont seem to realize they still have the porcedure in place and they can again follow the rules and lose weight....maybe with a good therapist, but I believe it is possible. All that the weight gain means is that you are practicing the old habits of your before surgery days. Still,I pray I never lose control to the point of allowing myself to gain that much before I catch myself and stop myself.I am reall praying that. xxo

I dont understand why she just didnt have a revision GBP...the lapband isnt the answer for anything...it will fail. Shame,i feel so sorry for her.She is so beautiful. xxo

Hi,i am crazily preoccupied with how much and what to liquidize.I can also do more than half a cup.I must say I also worry all the time this will not work,or I will be able to eat way to much,I will stretch this sleeve....and then I have to relax and breathe and just get back into this one day.

Lose And Loose Are Two Completely Different Words
desertmom replied to Globetrotter's topic in Rants & Raves
Hehe,I really try hard though. It is difficult enough to think you speak with an english accent just for people to ask if I am Russian?(am South african actually) I know I have made the mistake with the loose/lose word though. xxo -
Lose And Loose Are Two Completely Different Words
desertmom replied to Globetrotter's topic in Rants & Raves
Oh come on,you are too hard on us!For some of us on the board english isnt even a second language,it is a third. I am an expat living in Dubai and we travel a whole lot.Let me tell you the Americans do fabulous with the language compared to other native English speaking countries. As for the rest of the non English world, there's English signs all over the world with the craziest spelling. The local news papers thats in English has the funniest language use in it,we are always joking about it....and no one even seems to notice or care that the world out here speaks "pigeon" english....but at least we have a common language we can use to understand each other. One language speakers should know how to spell and use the grammar though...LOL -
Now I read all these posts of women saying:"o,its so hard to get in enough calories" and I want to laugh my head off!!!!!! It is the easiest thing in the world to get too much calories in one's quest to get enough proteins. So you drink 2 protein powders and they are 360 calories. Then you have 1 cup of milk at 100 cals.Another cup of veg beef soup at 220 cals and look where you are already.I read of people keeping around 600 cals in liquid phase and it freaks me out as I am already over that. I dont have a problem drinking anything. When the dr says 6 half cups of liquid something during the day as food,do you now wait 30 min before and after or do you not?then, like with me not being able to drink water,I have to drink tea and all kinds of stuff to get the fluid in. I AM SO SCARED I WILL FAIL AT THIS. I cannot wait to feel a little more like a human so I can just stop thinking about all this ALL THE TIME. I really like things that are more of an exact sience...with this I just dont know what ia going on from one day to the next.

Hi,are you doing Protein?
