  1. Doped up and still using proper punctuation! Glad to hear you are doing well. Gives me hope. Are you on IV med or just oral meds? I am hoping just oral cause that is all I am having!

    Lap Band or Bypass?

I have lost 100 pounds in less than 10 months and I have only slimmed/pb'd twice...and that is because I ate too fast and didn't chew enough. I would rather do this than go through the dumping syndrome that some of the bypass patients have. Also, all of my nutritional levels are right where they should be because this is a restrictive procedure and not a malabsorptive procedure. I chose this surgery because there were less risks involved.
  3. For me...liquids always make the hunger worse! Even now...and I am not on mushy foods. I still think that 4 times per day is okay. As long as what you are eating is HEALTHY! LF cottage cheese or Lite yogurt is alright. I KNOW I ate more than 3 meals per day on mushies. I am pretty certain I ate at least 4.

do you follow the post fill diet and why is it necessary?

Make some vegetable soup and pull out the veggies and puree them. Add a bit of parmesan cheese and it is wonderful! One of the things that I ate during this time. I added a litle unflavored Protein powder as well, but you could also blend in some white Beans for Protein as well. Just make sure all the veggies are cooked really well.

    June Exercise Challenge

The main difference between a running store shoe and a sporting goods store is that the shoes are much better quality. They may be made by the same companies, but the shoe has the best quality materials ALL the way through the shoe. Big store shoes tend to only have the quality material in the heal because most people who wear those aren't doing heavy exercise. If you have bad knees, heals, feet or plan on doing a decent amount of working out/training/running, it is going to be in your best interest to invest in a GOOD pair of shoes. And you are talking to the queen of stinginess! I could be Scrouge McDuck's sister...However I pass more as Jabba the Hut's sister (well...at least my tummy...but not for long!)
  6. Frangi you are probably already under anesthesia as I type this. I can imagine that your brain is drifting to all the sales at Stein Mart. 6 hours of dreaming about shopping...could be worse!!! Here is to a speedy recovery. Becky- Hope you are feeling alright!!!

    June Exercise Challenge

I have new balance shoes, but I had to go with mens, because my feet are wide. I went to a running store in Eugene the weekend of the Eugene marathon. They had some great sales that weekend. I was having some problems with tendonitis in my foot and ever since buything these shoes I have been pain free...well as pain free as you can be running 11 miles at at time:tt2:

Don't feel like an idiot...be proud. When I first started it was less than 0.1 miles! No I have not finished grading...I need to get off here and grade...CRAP!

    Ready and willing!

I would assume that ground turkey would work just as well and that I know you can buy. If you have a meat market nearby they would grind your chicken for you. If you hate to cook...only do it 1 time per week. Pick one day a week to do all of your cooking and then for the rest of the week...all you have to do is microwave. That is what I do with ALL of my lunches. As for the meal planning...it has been a lifesaver. I now have DH doing it to. We are going camping this weekend and DH was sitting on the couch last night "planning" what we would be eating!

Yeah I plunked down 100$ for shoes. They were specially fitted for my feet. You might need to tie your shoes tighter. I didn't get my 5 miles... I only did another 5K, but I did it all at a 5.5 incline on the treadmill. Also went to the doctor about my hyperventilating and she put me on an anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medication...hopefully that will help. She also told me that I have tendonitis in my achilles tendon and that I need to back off the running for a bit so that I can run in the half-marathon. She said short runs were alright but I don't get my 12 miler before the half. So 11 miles will be the longest I will get. I am going to do a 6 mile run on Sunday instead. I will be gone the next couple of days as I am going camping. Will be running everynight...short ones though. Will check back in with my totals.

I went to the doctor today and she put me on cymbalta, which is anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medication. Since I have been on anti-depressants before she explained to me that I most likely do have a chemical imbalance in the brain, that is as much a part of me as my eye color. It is just who I am. She said that I will most likely have to be on these the rest of my life. If I have gone off and on them more than 2 times then it means that I should be on them for life. The problem is this med is VERY expensive and we are not sure if my insurance will cover it. I can't take zoloft anymore cause it makes me so sick and I don't want to take effexor because the side effects are so nasty if you ever do have to go off of them. I am going to try these. She said the hyperventilating should go away in a week or 2 with the medication. Also she said for right now not to try and fight the excessive calorie counting and weighing and measuring my food. Right now, that is how the brain is telling me to function and that it is NOT a concious choice. This is what my brain thinks is correct. She wants me to try this through the summer and then if it isn't helping all of it to seek therapy. However she believes that what I am doing with the book and with DH should be fine as long as I take the medication. It is a capsule so I don't know how that is going to work if I have to get a fill. I guess I will cross that bridge when I get there. As for the hyperventilating...right now it still sucks! I have to grade my last few tests. Tomorrow I am done for the year!!!!
  12. Yeah Becky! I am glad to hear you are out of surgery. I think I have been camped on this page all day...then I leave for lunch and bam it gets posted! It is such a relief to hear you are alert. I am looking to you to be our leader in PS, just as you have been in the weight loss phase!

2nd Fill on Monday - hell till today.

Good I am glad to hear that you are feeling better now. Being too tight is TERRIBLE. I had it happen after each fill. I am now at maintenance and have been unfilled for well over a month. I struggled with my final fill forever and a day. I had a small unfill and it wasn't enough, so I finally went back in and had them remove the entire thing. Those fills can be tricky!

And even if you don't make it...you kick it into high gear anyways. There were several months that I didn' think that I would make goal (and 1 or 2 that I didn't) but I never gave up. I always pushed myself right to the end. You are back...and now we will all be rooting for you. I just ate something so that I can go run this morning. I only did a 5K yesterday, but I am hoping to get in 5 miles this morning. Time is the problem for me! I have so much grading to get done by tomorrow:scared2:! But at least it is only a half day with the kids...then school is OVER!:thumbup::tt2::w00t::biggrin::tongue::teeth_smile:
  15. Becky - Here is a great big hug from one crazy ate to another! Good luck tomorrow... Cheers to flatlands!

You will be proud of me. I realized that doing double workouts while I was still working was a bit obsessive! So I have decided to not do a second workout tonight. I will workout tomorrow morning as I have an end of the year party to go to after my doctor's appt tomorrow. See...I am making progress. Don't ask me about yesterday though...it was a BAAAAAADDDD day. But today was a new one. THough I am exhausted again.

you are right...I am not panicking over this. Though I have had cravings from hell today. I think my strawberries and granola will cut it tonight, but I am really craving sweets and it is NOT TOM. I think today's hunger is because I ran at 3:30 this morning and it blasted my body into fat burning mode. I was sweating like I hadn't done in ages. I guess my metabolism is rampant. Could also be the wine from last night!!

Make the food insanity STOP. Holy crap I have been hungry all day. We are talking TRUE, HONEST TO GOODNESS hunger...not head hunger! Stomach growling hunger. Can you tell that I am hungry? I think I might actually be over calories today. No finger wagging...I have never been over calories once since I started my journey....I am entitled to at least ONE! It isn't that big of a deal because I have a double workout planned and I will be close to burning 1000 calories, but still...I haven't had hunger like this since before being banded.

Congrats on making the commitment. That is the hardest step. Look forward to hearing from you. I ran 3.1 miles this morning and will be going back for another round after work. Today starts the daily doubles. The plan is to do daily doubles at least 3 days per week until the half-marathon. The legs are good, but I am still working on the lungs!

2nd Fill on Monday - hell till today.

You are most certainly too tight. Just a small amount (even 0.02 cc) can make the difference between eating and sliming. I know how miserable it is to be so tight. I hope things even out for you.

Didn't go to immediate care last night. Couldn't justify spending 15$ when I am going to my PCP on Thursday. So DH got a bottle of wine and I had a very small glass and it wiped me out. I am not a big drinker anyways...actually the first time since being banded and holy crap it knocked me for a loop. However I did sleep all the way through the night for the first time in over a week. I went to bed at 5:30 PMish and didn't wake up until my alarm went off at 3:30 this morning so that I could get up and run. I didn't go running yesterday. So I am starting my double workouts today. My plan is a double workout at least 3 days a week between now and the marathon. My legs are totally ready for this run...my lungs...not so much! I am 95% confident that I can run this half-marathon without a problem...it is the 5% that worries me. Well 1.5 days of school left! I have a few kids finishing their tests today and others working on make up work, and others helping me clean out my classroom. I guess I should get back to work!

    Am I doing something wrong?

Couple of questions...How much food are you eating? What is the volume? how many calories? If you need to eat more...eat veggies. Eat your Proteins first and then eat more veggies if you are hungry. If you take some Beans (pinto, white or my favorite S&W chili beans) and put them on a salad with some salsa, it is very filling. Also, are you exercising? You are at the point now that my doc says that the band has done all the work it is going to in terms of help you lose the weight. Without exercise you most likely will not get the results that you are hoping for. Finally...are you really feeling hungry? Head hunger is a major issue. When you think you are hungry, sometimes it is just your head telling you that you are hungry...when your tummy really is full. In fact right now as I type this I want to eat something, but I know that my tummy is not hungry...just my head. Also, make sure you are not drinking during your meals or for about an hour afterwards and this will certainly help with the satiety. Don't get discouraged. This is tough work and you are both in a better spot and a worse spot then some. Starting with a lower BMI means that you didn't have as far to go, but it also means that it is harder to come off. Good luck
  23. Yes after my first really bad stuck incident where I had to be completely unfilled I was told to stay on liquids for up to a week. I was mandated to stay on liquids for at least 3 days then I could try mushies and if I could hold those down then I could stay there for a few days and then go to solid foods. When you PB (regurgitate) your food it causes irritation and swelling so even though some of the fill has been taken out, your stomach does not automatical stop swelling. The reason they have you on that dietary plan is so that you don't keep causing swelling and have further complications.

Low Carb, Low Fat, Low Sugar anyone...

If you google low carb luxury they have some really good recipes there. Though...I would try to make them a little lower in fat that what they make. Use as lean of meat as possilbe....try ground chicken instead of hamburger.

    I Keep Sabatoging Myself

I am going to send you to my band mommy! No relation, we just adopted to each other. She is/was a nighttime eater and a grandma raising her grandson on her own. I think that she might really be able to help you out. You should send her a pm her screen name is IndioGirl. She also as a mentoring thread on here. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f260/im-here-help-64725/ You can tell her that her band daughter sent you to her. I think she would be a great deal of help to you. I could give you my words of wisdom, but she has dealt with some of the same things that you are going through...I have not. Karri
