Regret...need help! ! !
shershrinking replied to wannaBme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Doctor tells me depression is really common after surgery. Any surgery. Take any medication Dr can give you for depression, keep sharing, go to your local support meetings, get outside and walk. Hang in there! Just know this is a common problem, it will get better. -

Beginning My Journey
shershrinking replied to KellyLessBelly's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It takes courage to tell that life story! We all have our reasons, dont we? -
I feel so bad for you and me too. I love sweets, grew up with cake and cookies and ice cream every day. Today i broke my diet, had whopper and fries with diet coke and then to McD for a dipped cone! I am preop and lost 30 pounds following the Mediterranean diet. No white bread- whole grains only (sprouted whole wheat/california protein recommended) (i try to avoid bread completely-its addictive for me, plus i put too much butter on) I cook with olive oil or grapeseed oil. Tons of veggies, and I eat two servings of fruit and 4 servings protein per day. 1 cup of blueberries equals one fruit. 2 cups watermelon equals one fruit. Thats lots of sweet- About a tablespoon of nuts per day, and 1/2 cup root vegetable (carrot or sweet potato) and maybe 1/4 cup beans. Eat red meat only once a month. . For chocolate emergencies i get Russell Stovers sugarfree candies,( english toffee and peanut butter cups are my favorite, but 3 will get my sugar up about 100 points. ) I still lost 30 pounds ! But i did feel so much healthier on that diet. especially avoiding bread. Waiting for insurance to approve my RNY. It better come soon, im a cheating fool. 250# and waiting...

I am preop RNY, HW 290#, GW160# (per dr) 5ft9in, F, lost 30# preop doing "Mediterranean" diet and some cheating. Severe insulin resistance, if i look at white bread my sugar hits 250+ and i need regular insulin, 50 units to get it down to decent range. Bad knees and ankle, if i walk too much i am laid up another week with injury. Come on insurance, waiting on you guys! Already bought my papaya tablets, protein supplements, chewable vitamins, chapstick for the hospital, even liquid glucosamine for my knees. Even have a housedress in mind. Now i better look at iron supplements, dont want to lose my hair! (geritol?) Thanks to you guys for clueing me in to what i need. This is quite an education! -

What ya eating tonight?
shershrinking replied to OleHippieGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Instead of Rice try using Quinoa. Its whole grain and doesnt convert so quickly to sugar. -
Call the pharmacist, is it a typo?

70 lbs in 7 months- i would take that! Thats really good weightloss! And really the healthier way is to lose at that pace. Better for your heart - and I bet your hair didnt fall out at all. Hang in there, you are doing great! I am jealous! (i'm preop) I love to hear all your progress. Soon that should be me! -

Bummer. Hope you feel better. Good tip, i am putting applesauce on my postop list. You could ask your pharmacist to give you liquid meds postop, or take 2 smaller pills instead of one big one. Explain your postop needs to your pharmacist. -

I am probably completely wrong in this thought but... I think weightloss stalls because the body thinks it is starving and slows its metabolism to store that fat. I think i trick it by eating higher calories one day every couple weeks- is that crazy? (i can just hear my nutrition coach scream) -
If we could change our lifestyle we wouldn't be fat!
shershrinking replied to Kcarr1120's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes i think i am physically and psychologically addicted to food. Some folks smoke or drink, gamble, do drugs. Or shop None of that holds the appeal for me that food does. Shopping comes close... -
who got approved? this girl right here!
shershrinking replied to tlynn4love's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been through a three month education/evaluation process with my dr's clinic. Ive lost 30 pounds in 4 months, planning RNY but had a panic attack last two weeks, fearing that i can never taste the sweet things like my family recipes, or german chocolate frosting. I am feeling much better after reading these threads. Waiting for insurance to approve it. My main problems are diabetes and joint pain. I dont really cook with sugar for past 10 years anyway, due to my diabetes. So i just need to learn to make a few more things without sugar. I know i can make sugarfree german chocolate frosting, just need to try. Re dumping syndrome- sounds a bit like my big glucose swings. I get flushed and sweaty and a little nausea at least once a month. (rapidly dropping glucose when my insulin peaks- i have severe insulin resistance- )I have to avoid pasta and white bread and rice- only eat whole grain now (well yes i cheat sometimes) so the RNY will be my tool to quit cheating too. These posts are really helping me see the future with less fear or anxiety.
