Surgery Dates for July
shershrinking replied to elli'smommy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes Good Pizza is about the hardest thing to resist! Those pizza commercials with the thick crust and gooey thick cheese and pepperoni really push my buttons... BowlingHooker mentioned years on a "food tear"- thats my whole life too. Grew up with cake and ice cream everyday because on the farm Dad and brothers needed the calories. I had free reign of the cupboards, encouraged to cook more un huge amounts. Everyday was an eating competition at our table. My brothers love buffets, and have a system to load their plate the fullest, by starting with a ring of mashed potatoes around the rim of the plate so they can pile more into the "bowl" they create. - its not a joke, they are serious about getting the value for their money. Anyway, it sure is a hard cycle to break. -

Family is still suffering from complications of RNY
shershrinking replied to PiRatFamily's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Someone mentioned Mayo Clinic but i dont see it in this thread. There are at least three Mayo Clinics across the US, i would go to them, they are the very best- i wouldnt waste any time going to anyone else. If it can be repaired, they will know. I hope the damage can be repaired. So sorry this happened to him. And your family. Why cant we all enjoy the quality of healthcare our congressmen and their families do? -
Lifting restriction
shershrinking replied to Kcarr1120's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first month you probably have extra fluid, swelling in intestines and or surrounding tissues. Plus they pump you really full of fluids in surgery so you dont get dehydrated. It takes longer to get rid of that water weight after surgery. When i had a knee arthroscopy i gained 10 pounds that day! Fluids. -

Hubby Thinking Its The "easy Way"
shershrinking replied to joyaskins34's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Joyaskins mentioned "snide comments" from skinny folks who dont approve of bariatric surgery-- well dont we all experience the snide comments and judgement of others before we lose this weight anyway? Just today i was in the vegetable section at safeway and a young male stockboy says loudly, "looks like the circus is in town" and the female stockboy cackled loud and high and long- ( i turned so red- and me in my new nice summer dress after losing 30 pounds before surgery) So $&@#~! them all. Fat people are the last acceptable group to ridicule. Gay bashing is a hate crime, why not fat bashing too?? -

shershrinking replied to cfergie911's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How frustrating. Im all done but still waiting a month on insurance because the contract changed on july 1 and they wouldnt approbe july surgeries until july. And i suppose they all took the week or 2 of july 4 off ? So ive been jumping through hoops since february 1. Five 1/4 months and counting... No surgery date yet. And since i expected to be on medical leave for this in may, and that extended to july, so i didnt apply for vacation time and now its too late- no vacation time left. But yeah, i guess i would drive the 2&1/2 hours, make a day pf it, maybe stay overnight, if it didnt mess up work schedule. -
Family is still suffering from complications of RNY
shershrinking replied to PiRatFamily's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Oh that is so awful! So sorry for Tony and your family. Research your surgeons well, get references from former patients, and try not to place blame in the dr's office- (leave that to the lawyers. ) So sorry. -

OMG! I am laughing but sharing your agony. Your mother in law sounds a bit senile - or is she just dense? Keep your chin up! Clearly you are too sweet than to tell her to MYOB. I need to find a tactful way to say it- like- " this is so personal, i am just not comfortable discussing it with you yet "- because i have plenty of opinionated coworkers and my surgery will be at the hospital where i work. -
How are you today? We are all worried and wondering...

Feeling like a whimp
shershrinking replied to tchick75's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I havent been told a month on liquid diet- dont think i could stand it b4 surgery. They have had me on 1300 calorie mediterranean diet for 3-4 months, going to education, nutrition exercise classes... When i get my surgery date i will be on 1100 calories/day for two weeks, but they didnt say liquids only-- i guess everybody gets a different plan. Anyway i Lost 30 lbs...but It took forever to jump through their preop hoops. Now just waiting on insurance, and backsliding on my diet. Probably gained back 10lb this week- im afraid to check. Im a big bad cheater this week. -
What ya eating tonight?
shershrinking replied to OleHippieGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my teflon frying pan I just lay 7 pepperoni rounds touching each other in a circle, then sprinkle mozzarella on top, - cook on medium heat til the edges turn brown and its all crispy, slide it out - nice and chewy, i dont miss the crust. You can bake some veggies to put on it too- chopped onion, red pepper, zucchini and especially sliced mushrooms. And some spaghetti sauce. Then it turns out to be pizza casserole but yumm no bread. -

shershrinking replied to daisykarebear's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had my panic attack 3 weeks ago, called the doc office- told doc i didnt want RNY, was terrified of dumping syndrome & never eating family recipes or eating out, wanted the Sleeve per a friends suggestion. BUT she doesnt have severe insulin resistance , i do- anyway doc told me to go to a support group before my next appt. So i found this wonderful site and after reading all your posts i am ready to embrace the RNY- thanks everybody ! - i feel like running towards this surgery now.
