Do the effects of the surgery wear off?--RNY Veterans
shershrinking replied to ren0318's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been told that those microbe changes or hormone changes are likely to fix or ease my insulin resistance/ diabetes. I might be able to lose a little more on my own, but then again, probably not (as per my 30 year obese history) . And the insulin/diabetes issue is what really made my mind up to go through with RNY. Any time i start to waffle on my decision, i remember that, and words like "stroke" or "blood clot" related to diabetes- i still have so many places i want to see. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk -

If you decide to do it you need to find a bariatric "center of excellence" - research well. Get references from people you know. Go to a local support group and ask around When you feel comfortable sharing more we are here to listen and support you. I am 54, havent been below 230 since i was 26, and HWt 290... I have bad insulin resistance. I am down to 246 pounds now, and i can walk longer with less pain, but i cant run, and my diabetes is still bad. I am hoping the RouxEnY will reset my hormones and help ease my diabetes. My surgery is Sept 3. I am most anxious about Fluid intake - i love my cold liquids. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

Good for you, TeTe you have an extra reason for this- your little girl needs you to be healthy - you are going to make it! Yes i am grieving food too, i try to cook with less flour , less or healthier fats and no sugar, but today i want pumpkin spice cake so bad! Gotta dig out my splenda cookbook i guess. My Nut emphasizes no butter, no corn oil- encouragesd olive oil or grapeseed oil. I do like grapeseed oil best esp for stirfry. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk -
Psych Appointment In The Morning!
shershrinking replied to rsmithdestin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My psych eval was an hour talk with very nice woman, she really made it easy for me. Those sleep apnea studies are really difficult- Most people do have difficulty sleeping in them, but fortunately you dont have to sleep long to get a good handle on your problem. After 4 hours ? sleep they let me go home. No problem Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk -

At my support group they were selling "the Incredible Shrinking Cookbook" - i bought it last month- havent used it much. Mostly i have been planning to freeze tiny 1-2 ounce ground turkey patties. Using Prudhomme's Poultry Magic Seasoning and frying it up. I am still preop. It doesnt sound like i will have an appetite postop- probably wont need recipes for 6 months? September 2013 Surgeries
shershrinking replied to shershrinking's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its been a long trip to surgery date for me too- first saw doc in february, they said 3 months from first visit is usually surgery- but i gained 2 pounds the first month of 1st visit.. So may turned to june, but my employer insurance contract was in transition and the insurance wasnt going to add anything new until july. Then i had a freak out about RouxEnY vs sleeve in late june,(a good friend had the sleeve last year, she looks fantastic and is now doing 5 mile walks) and doc put everything on hold for a month til i found a support group (this forum is the best) . They finally approved me and offered August dates but I had put off my summer vacation long enough, i am going to enjoy August, and September 3 is my GO- Day! After. 6 months of preparation. I probably am sharing too much. But i have lost 35 pounds by mostly giving up white breads and sodas, and pushing veggies.(dont be fooled though, i am a big bad cheater- ff burgers and biscuits n gravy are Kryptonite) I love asparagus for Breakfast with an egg and mayo. And stirfries (no rice or noodles) but i sure feel better, my ankles and knees are much less painful to walk- not perfect but better. Maybe by Christmas i can be diabetes free? Or at least better control, less insulin. And be ready for a whole new wardrobe! (But i am not looking for a man, thats another 160 lbs i dont need! No offense guys, i am just too old to be bothered! And never had much luck anyway!) -

surgery wanted and no spleen?
shershrinking replied to ballmomof3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost my spleen age 19 car accident. I am diabetic, 54. Doc says thats fine. Funny thing- i went to a blood specialist for clotting study, he said sometimes there is a 2nd vestigial spleen that grows larger when the main one is removed. But not mine, he checked. -
