  1. Are there any true veterans on here? I immediately went to the veterans forum here but the definition there is "6 months or more". In wls circles a veteran is typically defined as anyone 2 years out or more. So it makes me wonder I'd there are any log timers here at all? Anyway, glad to find this forum. More than Willing to help any newbies, meet new friends :-) I'm 7 years out of rny, teacher and Canadian. Thanks for having me! Dawn

    Stressed!

Just know that the surgery will help but not forever. Eventually eating will become "too easy" again. It's a good idea to look at your eating issues now and start working on them. It will down to willpower and good habits later on in the game. The first few years are easy that way compared to later. It becomes much more challenging later. You will have to focus on you, plan and organize your eating die the rest Of your life. Start now. :-)

    Addiction issues

Yes and initially the surgery will help you recondition yourself with food. Eventually this won't be the case and it will get much more difficult. Old habits did hard. Explore eating issues now.

    (Former) Cereal junkies unite!

If you want to maximize your loss, consider putting off cereal for a while. Processed carbs aren't the best way to maximize loss.

    Anti-inflamatories

NSAIDs can cause ulcers over periods of time. Some surgeons say never, some say okay with an acid reducers, some say very occasional use. After being many years out, I take them only of I have a really bad headache. Maybe one day a month ( if that).

for those who have had surgery?

I've seen lots of people have surgery with simple colds and stuffiness. It depends to what degree you are sick. Infection? No. Cal your team

    Coffee with Caffeine?

It is a myth that caffeine aides ulcers and dehydrates you. That's old information. Read up on that. Not true. Caffeine however may upset previously existing ulcers. Many times they aren't detected prior to surgery. As well, it does interfere with absorption of calcium.

    Please help!

There's no magic rule. Protein is what you should focus on. Absolute protein. Are you on shakes? Food. Most people get very little on early out and have to work toward their goals. Protein and water

    Question about weight

Your body is a smart animal. Weight loss usually slows down as you get down to your goal. For most people getting underweight is not a problem as they will not get that low of a Bmi. For some people especially lightweights they may indeed get underweight and have to adjust their diet to eat more to maintain or gain weight.

    Scared to eat!

Yep measure everything. You are on liquids. You won't necessarily get any kind of full feeling yet. No worries. Get to the protein and water goal. A little more each day!

Hi there! Welcome. Stomaphyx and other procedures have poor results. If you have a lot to lose you can look into a revision but If its more like 30-40 lbs it's going to be about your diet. You do not have malabsorption of calories and all that anymore. you will always have malabsorption of Vitamins so you need to keep getting bloodwork checked. Most of us long timers find our Iron tends to tank quite easily many years out. You can't shrink your pouch. You can reduce your carbs focus on Protein and you may feel like you have more sensitivity to your pouch. De-carb. The best way to lose is to use myfitnesspal and track what you are eating. Aim for 40% protein or more in your diet. If you are on Facebook I have a group for long timers. Just message me.
