TAKE YOUR VITAMINS!
DiminishingDawn replied to jerz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please don't take tums!!! My surgeon told me the same thing and I ended up with osteopenia. It's well documented that we don't have enough stomach acid after rny to break down carbonate. We need citrate form. -

Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?
DiminishingDawn replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
7 years out and would do it again in a heartbeat. Would I change things had I known what I know now? Absolutely. I would have done low carb to Maximize my loss and would have gone under my goal to give myself some bounceback room. I also wish i would have done it earlier! Dawn -
When will I feel full?
DiminishingDawn replied to SarahBeth's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As well, liquids flow though the pouch constantly. It's very hard to feel fullon liquids. When you start foods you'll notice it will be different. As well as you are going through, try not to think of the old "full feeling" you had before when you are stuffed. Think of "full" as being more about the absence of hunger or feeling satiated Take care, Dawn -
Complications
DiminishingDawn replied to keefkeef1986's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Recently scientists have discovered that what we thought made ulcers (spicy foods, caffeine stress etc) are not so. Unfortunately many doctors are not up to date in the new facts. Such things may irritate existing ulcers but not cause them. (correlation, not causation). They have now learned that 70-90% of ulcers are caused by the bacteria, h pylori. That's why so many programs are now insisting on h pylori screening in the last few years. (when I had my surgery 7 years ago I didn't have such testing). NSAIDs, alcohol and some medications are also factors. -

Hello! and am I making the right choice?
DiminishingDawn replied to chubbsey1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One thing that I'm very careful about when discussing with preops is to stress not to count on dumping as a form of behavioural modification. That's a false promise since most of us do not dump especially after the year out mark. A poster mentioned seeing someone with the sleeve eating pizza. I've seen people that are new rny patients eating pizza as well. While I would have loved to have dumpin syndrome to curb my sweets, I've dumped maybe two or three times in my life. I have seen people one month out eating sweets to see if they dump, then they don't and then they are crying because now they feel like this was promised to them before surgery. These surgeries whether rny or vsg, will depend on willpower, good habits and good choices for the rest of your life. It will not be an easy task some days to keep on the straight and narrow path. If you can look into therapy for any eating disorder you may have, that's a good thing. Three are people who fail long term. You have to work hard to make either surgery work. -
how did you tell friends and family.
DiminishingDawn replied to kracinski's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That a good thing. The more you tell, the more people may try to talk you out of it. When surgery is done, telling people may be something you want to do or not. It's your choice. I told everyone right away, deciding to educate. But you have to do what you feel comfortable with. -

Bariatric long-timers With hyphen to find it -
I had hair loss. Significant for me to notice but not for anyone else to notice. I did nothing about it as I heard so many mixed reviews on products. It eventually stopped. It was only hair and I didn't stress much. Small price to pay
-
I did flint stones initially because they were tolerable and then switched over to a regular adult chewable. I didn't understand why some people stayed on a kids vitamin. I don't think bariatric ones are needed either. I've done 2 regular adult vitamins and found they serve me well after 7 years.

Horror stories....
DiminishingDawn replied to hrhdiana's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When in the throes of dumping, it can be pretty awful. Heart palpitations, sweating profusely, cramps etc. that said, most of us will not be dumpers or if we are, it will primarily be siring the first year out. Far more people won't dump than will. Most of us after a while can eat virtually anything and yes that is the problem. Lol Dawn -

If we could change our lifestyle we wouldn't be fat!
DiminishingDawn replied to Kcarr1120's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It helps but to be honest, once you get past the 2 year mark, things tend to change significantly. At that point, your eating disorderly come into play again. It WILL come down to a lot of willpower and resiliency. People that didn't change their habits will fail. I know quite a few people that had surgery after me and have gained their weight back. This is a tough ride. I am 7 years out. -

What Protein Shakes Do You Use?
DiminishingDawn replied to LosingItForMe2011's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I primarily use body fortress or premier (my fave). I will only do whey isolate or concentrate forms. Collagen (protein shots) are a huge waste of money. Be carefully protein shakes that have high carbs. They can slow Down your weight loss. Star far away from MLMs like shakeology, body by vi /Visalus, Arbonne. Don't line other people's pocketbooks. -
It materially stretches over time. To prevent any over doing it, it is always important to measure.
