Anyone go to Dr. Choban in Columbus,Ohio
dorothyb posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hello, I was wondering if anyone has had their surgery done by Dr. Choban @ Mount Carmel West Hospital in Columbus, Ohio? I am attending her seminar on 080807 and just wanted some idea of what she may be like. -
Hello Everyone! I have not been banded yet. I just received my papers today that I have been accepted by Dr. Choban's office. My question is does Dr. Choban require a liquid diet for a few weeks before surgery to shrink the liver? I have read alot about this on other forums and I am curious. Good luck to everyone!!!

Hi Ladies, Sorry I have not been on lately. My computer was down. My update with the process is that I am on my 3rd month of Dr. supervised diet and exercise and I have gained 10 pounds since last month!!!!! What the heck is going on??? My DH is currently off work and we have had to tighten our budget and I was not able to send in the $100.00 payment on the payment plan that Charlene set me up on. I will still try to get my clearances out of the way. I have written a letter to my pcp asking him to write me a prescription for a handicapped placard. It is getting harder for me to walk due to my back, legs and of course my weight. I hope he will ok it. I have to park so far away at work and it just tires me and makes me out of breath. I'm only 41 and don't want to be this way. Brighter, better things are coming my way I just know it. I'm not going to give up. Thank you ladies for wondering where I have been. Have a great day!!! -

Hello Ladies, Sorry, I have been pretty busy and then came down with some kind of stomach virus for a few days. Nothing new on my end to report at this time. I have my second visit of my 6 month supervised diet on Tuesday. I can't wait to see how much weight I have gained!!! Everyone seems to be doing really well. That give me lots of encouragement!! Thank you all and have a nice weekend. -

Hi Thinner, I'm here. I have just been reading as many of the post that I can read. I called Dr. Choban's office to find out if I could pay the $300.00 admin fee in payments and Pam set me up at $100.00 per month for 3 months. She said that I could not send in any paper work until I send the last payment but I can go ahead with the clearances that I need to have. I am working on that now. I am only in my 2nd month of dr supervised dieting. I have a ways to go yet but I know it will be worth it. You ladies have a wonderful weekend. I will talk with you soon. -

Hi Lady, The heel spurs are so painful. I have been bothered with them for years. I finally found a podiatrist, Dr. Roseanne Morrison. She gave me several cortisone injections and fitted me with orthotics, said to wear sneakers only. They seemed to improve only for a few days after the injections and right back. I then had a change in insurance and went to Dr. Eric Massa. He did an MRI, found arthritis, etc. He put me in night splints and a few weeks of physical therapy and they improved. Still today if I walk too much they flare up. I also have some neuropathy which causes me pain when walking also. I do have a question for any of you ladies. If you work outside the home how long did Dr. Choban take you off work. I read on another post somewhere that she will only give about 2 weeks and said that is too much. I am rather concerned about this as I do not know how I will handle going back to work on possibly the mushy stage and having to deal with that until I go on solids. The company I work for allows 2 10 minute breaks and 1/2 hour lunch. Am I worrying about things too soon??? I had gallbladder surgery in February and was off for four weeks. That surgery knocked me on my A$$. I couldn't even attempt to go back to work within 2 weeks. Thanks for talking to me, this is a great place Have a good evening -

Debbie, Thanks for the info on the bike also. Is the recumbant bike the type that you are actually sort of reclining back on and it sits low to the ground? I have also had a few people mention to me about the YWCA possibly having water aerobics. I am going to check that out. I live west of Columbus in West Jefferson. It is between London and Columbus. Not much in my area that I'm aware of. -

Hi Debbie, Thanks for the warm welcome. I would guess that she has lost about 80 pounds. I'm going to ask her the next time I see her. She was on asthma and diabetes meds pre-surgery and now takes nothing. That is what I'm hoping for also,or to at least reduce some of them. there are so many little things i can do that i just could not do before--like take a bath instead of a shower. i couldnt get in or out before. last night i got on the floor to rearrange all those wires under my computer desk. This is what I hope for also, or at least to stop my face from turning bright red and looking like it is ready to explode when I bend over. LOL!! I know better things are coming my way. I will be calling Dr. Choban's office on Monday to see if they will accept payments on the $300.00 administrative fee. That is a little much for me right now. I was shocked when I found out about this fee and the nutritionist fee of $200.00 not being covered by insurance. But I'm thankful that my insurance (Cigna) does not exclude WLS and the fills are covered. Have a great day! -

Thank you all for the warm welcome! Thank you Lady for the reassurance. This is a BIG decision to make.:nervous Today I was on my front porch and the sister of my best friend came walking by and she has been banded for about a year now. Boy,did she look great!!! She was walking at a fast pace and looked so happy and healthy. I want that to be me. :biggrin1: Just looking at her and knowing that she has accomplished great success with being banded gave me some added inspiration. I have trouble walking right now. I have multiple deteriorating disks in my back along with heel spurs. What types of exercises do you ladies do? I seem to be in a catch 22 here with being able to exercise. There are no places convienent (sp?) for me to take water aerobics in my area. Any suggestions or ideas would be great. Everyone have a great evening, -

Hi Lady Q T , Sorry about the disappearing post. After I posted it, I thought that I should make it into a new thread so I deleted it. You're not crazy, I'm just new on here and was not sure what I was doing.:cry Lol Thank you so much for the info on Dr. Choban. I'm getting all of my ducks in a row now. This forum is so helpful. I'm so nervous about all of this and I want to be sure that I am making the right choice. I am on here all the time reading, reading, reading. I have so many co-morbities and feel like S**T all the time. I just want to feel good and have energy to do the normal everyday things that most people take for granted. Again, sorry for the confusion.:biggrin1: -
Hello Everyone, I attended my first seminar yesterday in Columbus, Ohio. The surgeon speaking was Dr. Patricia Choban and I must say that I am a little discouraged by some of the things that were talked about. She stated that only 65% of people with type 2 diabetes (that's me ) are cured and that is 2-3 years out from being banded. Also, she stated that for those of us who's BMI is over 50 (that's me again) may not be candidates for the lapband due to the laproscopic procedure itself.:cry???? I don't understand this as I have had 3 laproscopic surgeries done without any concerns about my size hampering the procedure. Now I have been thinking about the gastric bypass and that scares the heck out of me!!! Don't get me wrong, I don't want the surgery just for this reason but I would give anything not to have to take 4-5 insulin shots everday, test blood sugars 6-8 times and so on and so forth. Can someone please shed some light on this for me? I am also going to go to another seminar at Ohio State University so I am definitely exploring my options. This forum is so helpful and I value all of your opinions. Thank You

I am attending my first seminar tomorrow in Columbus, Ohio. The surgeon is Dr. Patrician Choban. I was wondering what types of questions I should ask or what would be the main most inmportant questions I should ask. I am just starting my journey and all of this seems so confusing and overwelming to me. :phanvan

Hello Everyone, I just found this site a few days ago. I'm sure glad I did! :clap2: I'm so confused about the first steps to take. I have seen my pcp and he agrees with my decision. I have contacted insurance to check on the criteria etc., I am going to a seminar on 08/08/07. Where do I go from here? Will they direct me at the seminar? I'm lost.....:help:.
