    RNY in SC

I had RNY on Oct 15, 2013. I live in Clover SC. Upstate SC about 30 minutes from the outskirts of Charlotte NC.

    Grieving food?

I had the same problem before my RNY October 15, 2013. I had to go on a two week liquid diet before surgery and prior to October 1, I said good-bye to all my favorites. I've also read that many other people on this site do the same thing. You are normal.

    Hit my goal

Congratulations! I am happy for you.
  5. I used vanilla Unjury protein powder in soymilk with about 2 tsp Folger's freeze-dried decaffeinated coffee crystals. The coffee covered the smell and taste for me. I also drank Zero Calorie Isopure ready-to-drink coconut drinks. 20 oz have 40 grams of protein. I liked the coconut flavor, but some people like the fruit flavors.

    pain

I had a sharp pain in the same place earlier this week for about 2 hours. I looked up info on internet for gallbladder attack, sure I was having one. I know I have gall stones, but no one wants to do anything about them until they have to. My pain went away after 2 hours and hasn't returned. I thought about what I ate that might have given me indigestion or gas that hurt that bad and realized I ate about 7 zucchini fries the night before with dinner. Could be the grease caused the pain.
  7. If you drink Vitamin Water Zero, what flavors are best for people who hate sweet drinks? I just tried the Orange RISE and like it. The lemonade flavor was too sweet. Suggestions?

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

I am thankful that I am not having any complications from my surgery and seem to be losing steady. I am also thankful that my husband survived a horrific car accident on July 5 this year when a large tree fell 30 feet onto the windshield of his car while he was driving at 45 mph. He broke his back and neck in several places when his seat collapsed, but didn't require surgery. He had to wear a neck and back brace for 3 months. Just thinking about it makes me shudder. Molly, your Thanksgiving menu sounds wonderful. I too, will only be eating a bit of turkey and a veggie. I'm only 5 weeks out from my RNY. Luckily, I know when to stop 'cause I've had that little pouch/too much food feeling. I am also thankful I don't get hungry and want more than I am supposed to have. Happy Thanksgiving to all you who share and support.

    Burping And Pooping!

Be glad you are burping. Getting rid of the gas they probably filled your abdomen with during surgery is important to reduce any discomfort. Burping is one way to do that. I had my first BM on day 4 after surgery. I didn't require any medical intervention, but some people do need a stoof softener.

    Had Surgery 11/19/13

One of my incisions felt like it had a knot under it, was slightly warm and did bruise by day 4. It continued to be sore for about 2 weeks while the other incisions didn't hurt much. I was told that one incision gets used more than the others and can hurt more. After 2 weeks, it still had a bit of a knot, but it's gone now. I had my surgery on October 15.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

Yesterday I was able to decorate the Christmas tree and mantle without resting or directing my husband on where to put things from the sofa. I've lost 50 lbs since October 1st and the big NSV is that my lower back pain is just about gone. I never would have been able to be on my feet so much. My poor husband has had to decorate under my direction for about the past 3 years. I am so happy!

    Day 4 Post Op

When I was at 4 days out I was doing good to get 40 - 50 grams of Protein per day. I drank 2, 8 oz unjury Protein shakes at 23 grams of protein each and at least 1/2 of 1 ready to drink Isopure Zero Carb Drink with 40 grams of protein for 20 oz. In order to do that I had to constantly drink any time I wasn't sleeping. Find some Protein Drink you like to drink and sip it. I don't understand why you have to have 20 grams of protein in 4 oz. You need to drink fluids to stay hydrated. More complications are caused by dehydration in the first two weeks than anything else.
  13. Nothing I used to like tastes good to me now since surgery. You may not even like sweet things anymore. I don't.
