    January Exercise Challenge

    Hi Val -- Thanks ! And congratulations in advance for hitting two major goals in the next few days!!! Sandy, welcome back! Sorry to hear you were sick, but glad to hear you're feeling better!!! I got two workouts in today, my usual one hour of cardio and one hour of weightlifting (legs/lower body today) at the gym. I saw my primary care physician today, who is really into fitness and exercise. (I know this because he also belongs to my gym.) Anyhow, I talked to him about my plateau and he told me that I really have nothing to worry about. He told me that with the way I have been working out lately, I have almost certainly gained muscle mass, hence the plateau. I of course, knew this and you wonderfully supportive Crazy Ates have told me this as well. That said, it really gave me peace of mind to hear it from the Dr. Therefore, I have finally decided to quit worrying about this plateau, the scale will move when it wants to move, and that's that................     January Exercise Challenge

    Becky and Salsa, my shoulder is fine now. The pain has gone away completely, and I didn't even need to take any medication today. The problem was, as you said Becky, probably just strain from the hike I took on Sunday -- which did involve a few short stretches of rock scrambling in which I had to use my arms to pull myself up the trail. Fortunately, my day of rest yesterday took care of the problem. Thank you for your kind concern. Becky, how is your Mom doing this week? Congrats on making your goal this month -- you have done a fabulous job, as usual! Dave, we would love to hear from you! I hope all is going well. I resumed my workouts today. My short break did me some good -- I felt strong and rested. Have a great evening everyone!     January Exercise Challenge

    Eulete, thanks for the nice comments. Glad to hear things are going well for you. We would love to have you join our exercise thread. In fact, anyone is welcome to join our exercise challenge threads -- it doesn't have to be just August 07 bandsters (bandidos, bandidas, or whatever you want to call us). We would love to see more people join us -- the more the merrier!!! Becky, thanks for the good wishes. Val congratulations on busting through your plateau in grand style! 5 pounds -- WOW!!! I am SO happy for you!!! No workout for me today. I woke up in the middle of the night with bad shoulder pain that is radiating down my entire left arm. Tylenol is taking care of the pain, but the minute the medication wears off, the pain comes right back. I'm sure I'll be fine very soon, but I think this is my body's way of telling me to take a little break......... Have a great night everyone!!!     January Exercise Challenge

    Hi All, 2.5 hour hike today. I tried a much more difficult trail today and it was challenging, but not overwhelming. I still have a ways to go to get back to my former level of fitness, but today I was pleased to discover that I have made some good progress. I must give a lot of the credit for this to you wonderful Crazy Ates. This thread helps me immensely to stay on track. Thanks everyone :wink2::smile:!     January Exercise Challenge

    Becky, I said it before and I will say it again, you're doing a fabulous job with your workouts! I'm not sure that I could be as diligent as you if I were in the same circumstances..... Val, I will be eager to hear the results of your next weigh in. I have been at a plateau now for two solid weeks, and it's extremely frustrating. I won't be able to get another fill until the week after next, but if you tell me that your latest fill helped you break through your plateau, that will at least give me some hope!     January Exercise Challenge

    OMG! When I woke up this morning it seemed like every muscle in my body was screaming in pain. Not bad pain -- good pain-- but still pain nonetheless. It took me a while to get myself motivated to do another workout, but I finally manged to get my cardio in for today. The good news is that the cardio workout relieved all of the pain -- Yeah!!!     January Exercise Challenge

    Well, for the first time ever I got three workouts in today -- 1 hour of weightlifting with the trainer (arms/upper body today), a 30 minute abdominals class, and then a 1 hour Yoga class. I have a feeling that I am going to sleep really well tonight............ Have a great night everyone!     Hi Becky, Wow! It has been a very challenging several days for you. I am sorry to hear about your Mom breaking her hip. I hope she is resting comfortably and will be out of the hospital soon.     August Bandsters How are you Doing So Far

    Pizzicato, Good luck -- I hope you hear some good news soon! Glad to hear the fill is going well. Suddenly in the past few days, I can feel that I have lost restriction, and now there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that it's time for a fill. I am SO glad that I have one scheduled in a few weeks -- I only wish I could get it done sooner! This plateau is getting to be quite frustrating for me at this point. That said, I am trying to keep a positive attitude about the whole thing because I know it's pretty common and just part of the whole process........   16. Not to beat a dead horse, but........... I didn't see Wasa as having a "burr in her saddle" either. Wasa just happens to be a very knowledgeable lady who states her opinions forcefully sometimes. Once you get to know her Willy, I suspect you will begin to like her, even if you don't always agree. Lest we should get on our "high horse" about the superiority of US Medical care however, we should consider recent studies such as the following that shows the US as ranking dead last among industrialized nations in preventable deaths (see link below): US Ranks Worst In Preventable Deaths Among 19 Industrialized Nations And no, I am not on anyone's payroll. I am just one of the many who has had a very successful and positive experience with surgery abroad.     January Exercise Challenge

    Hi Val and Becky, Thank you so much for the encouragement! I am so glad that I found this board and you awesome "Crazy Ates," as I can always count on this wonderful group to keep me motivated and positive!!! Val, it really does feel great!!! Becky, thanks to your advice I just tried on a pair of slacks that I have been using as a benchmark lately and yes, they are looser. Thank you for reminding me to do this -- it made me feel much better. Thanks for nice compliment about my endurance -- it is starting to build up again for sure. Up until a few years ago when my weight got really out of control, I was an avid hiker and I have spent countless hours on trails in various remote places on this planet. A typical hike for me would be anywhere from 6 to 8 hours, and would usually involve steep hills and/or mountains. My point in mentioning this is to say that I am sure my body has a certain amount of residual conditioning from all of my many years of being out on the trails. I would therefore definitely recommend a slower and more gradual start for anyone who has never hiked on a regular basis. I am really getting mad about the scale though -- even with all of this working out, the scale has not moved in 9 days :biggrin:. As a matter of fact, I am at a slight plateau right now and it is frustrating. For me it has only been 6 days -- I hope this doesn't go on for a whole month, but if it does, I will be reading and re-reading your message often! How did you lose 105 pounds so quickly?     Val -- good idea, and thanks for the suggestion :tt1:! I am definitely switching over to pilates and yoga moves for abs. In fact, I just returned from a yoga class at the gym and the ab exercises did not aggravate my port area at all. You are such a sweet person -- and I am really glad you post here!:smile: Thank you for reminding me that I do need to take in a few extra calories with all of the working out I have been doing lately. That is an excellent point and I often tend to forget that. Becky, LOL regarding your comment about Pasta. According to my Italian relatives, that is not just an opinion -- that is an absolute fact!     January Exercise Challenge

    Salsa, I agree with Becky, be careful. I am beginning to wonder if crunches are good for we Bandsters anyhow. After I did one hundred of them during a training session last week, I had port pain too. Now I am doing different exercises for abs, like leg raises. Pizzicato, good luck with your upcoming interviews. I think you are smart to hold out for a job that will offer a raise commensurate with the increased living expenses you will have in California, and also an offer that will include moving expenses.
