First wls seminar today
Tammy wright replied to Tammy wright's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No not yet. They said it'd be two weeks after they receive my paperwork. I'm getting the tests scheduled as soon as possible so hopefully I'll have most of it done by the time I meet with them...I'm meeting with the psyc on the 18th of August. She's never done the evaluation before but she thinks this office here can do it... I use a c-pap but its been years since my last sleep study so I'm guessing I'll have to have another one... So I'm working on it. They aren't familure with Kancare since they just started taking it jan 1st so its new to both them and me. But I'm positive working together we can make it happen... -
I'm going to start therapy on a weekly basis. It was suggested by my med nurse to be in therapy before, during and after wls... Does anyone else see a therapist??

I don't really get what that is, grazing?

I haven't found any around here... I'm 3 hours away from the surgeon. I might make it up there once a month or maybe figure out how to start one here. -
Surgery and a catheter
Tammy wright replied to Yennydayerman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a catheter when I had my hysterectomy I was out when that put it in and I was grateful for it after surgery. They took it out the next day and there was no pain at all. Felt a little strange but absolutely no pain... -
I cant seem to feel full!
Tammy wright replied to Tammy wright's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Naynay, I totally understand how you feel... My husband (X), quit touching me after gaining aprox 50 lbs. he actually said my weight made him impotent. I was about 200 at that point. So I went over 15 years with 2 times of mercy sex and it was a sad excuse for sex. Then after 23 yrs of marriage I find out about his affairs. One was over the last 10 years. So much for impotence, but anyway when I filed for divorce he suddenly took an interest in me and started saying all the right things that should have been said 15 years ago, but I knew he had just been tolerating me through the years because I was his retirement plan. He never wanted to hold a job. When he decided he wanted me to give him another chance I felt like I really hated him and the thought of him touching me made my skin crawl! I hated him for not loving me all these years and not wanting anything of me except me to support him. So I totally understand where you are coming from... If I had lost all the weight and was the 130lb gal he married things "may" had been different, and maybe not but I know I resented him wanting to pretend caring about me just to have a free ride...I could never be with a man that only wanted me because I was thin...it took me too many years of blaming myself for his selfishness. I'm 53 yrs old and feel like I've lost 23 prime years I could have been with someone who really wanted me. I know this is long but last year I went on a dating site using my pic of who I am today and I met the most precious man I've ever known... He loves me for me and after dating a few months I told him about my decision to have wls and he stands by me whatever I choose. He'll love me thick or thin. He's learning as much as he can so he will know how to take care of me post op and he went to the seminar and is in full support if my choices. He at first was against it because of ignorance and believed I would die but after his research he feels more comfortable about it... I am blessed to have found a man like him to live out my life with... Sorry so long. I've just found a place I can be me and express my feelings that have been under the surface all these years. -

I'm glad I asked this question. I find myself doing this quite often. I'm starting therapy next week, hopefully between my determination and the therapist I can stop this behavior. I'm going to make this work at any cost. I AM going to make this work... -

First wls seminar today
Tammy wright replied to Tammy wright's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have sunflower through Kancare... I've been on disability for a couple years now. I can't find a psych around anywhere that takes Kancare that's familiar with the wls. I'm wondering how much out of pocked a self pay one would be because I sure don't want that to be what holds up my surgery... I'm planing on going off disability ASAP after surgery because I believe all my chronic pain will go away... I lost all my hearing so I'm deaf as well but I really miss working and can't wait to get back out there... -

I finished my 6 month diet last month and I hope to return my packet on Monday. There were so many people there so I want to hurry and get mine sent in. How long did it take to get in for your psyc eval??? Did you use one of the ones on their hand out? Where in Kansas do you live? -

Great seminar, very informative but I was surprised at how much I had already learned from this site. I got my packet to send in and it'll take two weeks to hear back from them about a consultation. And yes it is Tallgrass at St Francis there in Topeka... It's a 3 hour drive for me... What was your experience with them??? Good I hope...:-) -

I cant seem to feel full!
Tammy wright replied to Tammy wright's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you everyone. Having a place to go and visit with people who understands is the most awesome thing. I've been keeping things to myself not wanting to sound like I was on the Pity pot... Lol I've moved my elderly parents in my home in the last few months and I was worried about so many things like how to cook special meals for their special diets and meals that satisfy 9-10-13 and 17 you're olds... Then my diet. So I'm glad that food won't be an issue for me. I can't wait for the surgery day and begin living my life again it seems so far off but we all have to start somewhere. :-)) I'm so loving this place! -

Thank you for your advice music. I might be trying to work overtime mentally hoping this will work for me... I mean I know it will because I've been reading every thread on this site for a couple weeks now. I see it works for everyone else so it just has to work for me... I was skin and bones all my life and did everything to gain weight. I'm 5'10" and up till my early 40's I averaged 130 lbs then wham! I have lots of things to blame it on but things just went out of control. Little by little I began to gain and before I knew it I didn't know the person looking back at me in the mirror... I've always been the bread winner in my family, my X of 23 years wouldn't work and contribute financially and I had a very successful but stressful career. Rebellious teenagers added to the stress and then throwing in 4 grand kids to raise seemed to top it off!!! My husband became ashamed of me and refused to even touch me for years he claimed to be impotent but I blamed myself for it. Then about 18 months ago his girlfriend started messaging me that she wanted to break it off but he didn't and wanted me to handle the issue for her!!! So much for impotence... They had been seeing each other for over 10 years...But $1200.00 and 30 days later were divorced and he's on a plane back to where he came from... Still no job and living with his sister... He basically got the clothes on his back and a suitcase when he left!!! His GF contacting me was the best thing to ever happen to me... I'm better off financially now and my self esteem is growing daily not having someone remind me that I'm eating too much and that I'm not who he married. Him getting on that plane back to Hawaii lifted a huge burden that I didn't even know I was carrying. I'm in a better place mentally than I've been in 20 years. Now I'm ready to get healthy, get rid of the high BP, cholesterol, blood sugar problems, joint pain and depression over being over weight!!! I'm sooo ready for this. My doctor has given me the go ahead and tomorrow is my first seminar... Next week starts the tests required by the insurance and I've finished my 6 month supervised diet so I'm sure I'm headed down the right path... I just want the old confident me back! I guess I've unloaded a lot here but since no one knows me I felt free to do so... Lol Anyway thank you for your response and for listening... -
Seminar july 13th
Tammy wright replied to Tammy wright's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm wondering how long it will take to meet with the surgeon after I submit all the paperwork... I take care of my elderly parents and right now they are doing wonderfully well so I'm hoping I can be a sept or October person...I can ask all these questions at the seminar but I'm just so anxious to get things moving along that I'm babbling on this site... Lol -
I finished the 6 month supervised diet so now I'm going to the seminar on July 13th I have a list of requirements from the insurance company and it looks like I meet all the requirements. I'm already on a c-pap so do you think they'll make me do the sleep study again? It's been years since I've done one... After the seminar I complete the packet and mail it back then will get an appointment for the first consult. The only other question I can think if us how long dies it take to get the pshchological eval??? Do they (the team) have one on staff usually? I checked here locally and it could take a few months to get into a psych. Also what is the pulmonary test they require??? This is the list my ins requires does it look pretty much like everyone else's??? List of questions I know, just hope I make sence... ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ● BMI >40 ● BMI 35-40 with at least one major comorbidity (i.e. Diabetes; Hypertension; Coronary Artery Disease; Dyslipidemia; Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA); Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD); Osteoarthritis; Pseudotumor Cerebrii. ● Letter of medical clearance from Primary Care Physician to proceed with an evaluation for appropriateness for bariatric surgery. ● Medically supervised diet consisting of six (6) consecutive months within the last two (2) years. ● Dietary evaluation ● Cardiac evaluation/clearance ● Pulmonary evaluation/clearance (to include evaluation for Obstructive Sleep Apnea) ● Psychological evaluation (to R/O behavioral health disorder(s); severe psychosis/ personality disorder(s); mood/anxiety disorders excluded or treated; and drug/alcohol screening. ● Current TSH level to R/O out Endocrinopathy ● EGD, Upper GI or H. I read the reviews and it doesn't sound too bad. I just finished my 6 month supervised diet and will be starting the rest of the requirements in the next couple weeks so I've been doing as much research as possible and this is a great site...
