  1. Hi all! I had surgery on July 1. I had a dream recovery up to the last 3 days. I had absolutely no issues or discomfort when eating. I would feel full and stop eating. I started puréed foods last week and it seemed to be going well, although I couldn't eat more than 3-5 bites of puréed before feeling full. So last Thursday I ate tuna with shredded cheese and mayo and had 3 bites, felt full, but it tasted so good I went for another bite. This was the first time I ever felt pain from being full. But it went away after 20-30 minutes. Next day, ate more tuna but was sure to stop at 3 bites. Later on I also had baby food gerbers spaghetti and meatballs. Well that night while trying to sleep I had stomach pain and it did not go away for hours. I almost took one of my pain pills. Now anytime I eat, I feel full and discomfort. Sometimes I even feel the discomfort and pain after just drinking water or protein. Then I'm so sick of my protein shakes that I get nauseated everytime I take a drink. Gross!! Anyway, I felt like a rock star the first couple weeks and now I feel miserable. Even feeling weak - which I'm crediting to reducing my protein shakes cuz they're grossing me out. But I'm wondering why I have this pain after eating. I've reverted back to liquids with an occasional puréed or baby food. But it hurts to eat, and it wasn't like that to begin. Just wondering if something went wrong? Anyone else experience this?
  2. Last week, I started my liquid diet in preparation for my surgery on 6/24 at 7:30am. I am a teacher and normally teachers have summers off but I usually work for the majority of the summer. This summer I prioritized my health and declined a $5,000 piece of cake teaching gig, all because my surgery date would interfere w the job dates. I also lined my parents up to watch my kids, friends to help be chauffeurs to and from my kids sporting activities. And I have been managing a good exercise routine and I have lost 18 lbs on the liquid diet! So I had all my boxes checked and was ready for surgery when my surgeon called me personally. However, he called to say he was sick and could not do my surgery tomorrow!!! . He and I were both relieved I hadn't done the bowel prep yet but I am completely disappointed! He said he would not be able to do it at all this week but that I am a priority! Humph! I basically had a pity party for myself all day and now I'm in bed but can't sleep. Still crashing from the news. Ugh, since when do surgeons get sick?! LOL. Best wishes to all who are still able to go in tomorrow and this week! I will update as soon as I know when my surgery will actually happen. Bummed out ????????????????
  3. Good News!! My surgeon was able to reschedule my surgery for July 1st. I am elated to report that all went well! I am feeling very little discomfort, dilaudid is helpful tho. But I have only needed it once around 3:30 am and again around 11am. Otherwise, I have been able to get 34 medi cups of varying liquids-water, protein shake, fortified juice, broth, and applesauce. All goes down well, no nausea or vomiting. I can tell when I am full. I usually have a burp or just a feeling of not wanting anymore. It is however humbling to think about how much I really do need to focus on staying hydrated and keeping the medi cups of liquid going. Overall, I am being discharged in an hour and will be going home!! I am so grateful to my surgeon, Dr. Michael Schwartz, and the team at St. Joes Hospital in St. Paul. They really took great care of me. I am so happy that things are going well so far. I encourage you pre-op folks to have faith on your surgeon and your creator, your strength and all will be well! Here's to RNY!! (Lifts my medi shot glass) ????
  4. Thanks for sharing!! I am one day post-op and hope for the same kind of success you've had! Congrats beautiful

    June surgeries!

Yes! I am currently on day 7 of my liquid diet and still have 6 more to go! Yes it is difficult because I am hungry for the most part of the day. But I try to keep busy and still try to get in a walk or bike ride to burn even more calories. I am following the diet suggested meals pretty closely and have lost 8lbs so far. Did your doc give you a suggested list of meals to eat? I find it to be tolerable. I am cooking for my family too and it is not easy!! But I just keep thinking if I don't lose enough weight it will decrease the likelihood of me being able to have laparoscopic surgery. I also remind myself to make this happen because I have worked hard to get to this point and I'm sure you have too. I'm hoping it will help with the post surgery liquid diet too. It gets easier after day 3!!! Stick to it!! Get a good protein shake! And keep a variety of soups too! It will all make you savor and appreciate it once we get to reintroduce other foods in just a few more weeks!! Small changes, big differences!
  6. Hello All! I'm new here and am feeling nervcited (nervous and excited) for my surgery this Monday! I am doing well on my liquid diet. I am just now getting frustrated with the lack of variety in my options. Especially when I am still cooking delicious meals for my family. Anyway, I have been thinking about RNY for years now. But I hit my highest weight and lowest point of self esteem ever. So it is time for a change! I can not wait for me to be able to do more things I used to enjoy! I'm sure you all can understand. I am struggling with the "what ifs" though. I have asked myself what if this goes wrong? My mind imagines the worst outcome and how my husband, kids and family would be...anyway, it worries me. I am keeping my mind focused on the facts and stats that are in my favor! Staying positive and praying! Glad a friend told me about this page!! Good luck to you all!
  7. Thank you! Same to you!! We're almost there!!!

    Barrett's Esophagus

About 5 years ago I jumped thru all the hoops for lapband. I made it to the point where I met w my surgeon and he told me that generally people with my BMI (50) often returned for RNY after 5 years. He asked if I would be satisfied losing only 35-45 lbs in 5 yrs. I answered no. He then said he would not recommend me for lapband, but would recommend rny. At the time I wasn't convinced I was ready for RNY so I opted out. Now 5 yrs later with a BMI of 52 I am 6 days away from my RNY surgery. I wish I would have listened and just gone w the surgeons recommendation at the time. But everything happens for a reason and today I am mentally and emotionally ready for it! I hope you listen to your surgeon and take into account what you are ready for. Best of luck!!
