  1. Hello all, first off let me say that I am in no way regretting my decision to have the gastric sleeve done. I am confused about my current situation. I am 2 months out and I knew from researching and talking to my surgeon that I won't lose a lot of weight like I did in the first few weeks so that is fine but the issue I am having is, I have not lost 1 lb in 3 weeks but I have gained 3 lbs. I had lost a total of 30 lbs, my weight was 243 and now it is 246. I am aggravated and do not know what to do. I track my foods online. Anyone know what the issue is?
  2. I am 3 days short of 2 months post op and I have only lost 28 lbs, I had lost 30 lbs but now I have gained 2 lbs. I am exhausted with trying to eat right only to have no weight loss in a month and to gain 2 lbs. I don't know what to do. It is frustrating. All I can do is all I can do.Was anyone else a slower loser and actually picked up and lost a few lbs? I am not going to give up but I am frustrated. I barely get on the scale but when I do I expect at least a pound gone. Does anyone know at what stages are the stalls prominent? Thanks
  3. Thank you so much, I understand. I am just gonna keep chugging along .
  4. Precious Vsg and Miss Mac, Thank you so much. I have looked over my lab work and I know that my calorie intake needs to be increased especially in the protein area. I was not and currently am not able to tolerate protein drinks and powders, I do not eat protein bars like Quest bars etc because my tummy can't handle anything real sweet and heavy textured so I have to always eat my protein. I devised a plan to increase my caloric intake and increase my carbs to around 60 per day, I am also upping my protein to 80. I buy all high protein items in order for me to not feel as though I am missing out on anything by not being able to use protein supplements. This is a hard road, no amount of nutrition classes can prepare you for the real journey, I am a medical professional and I get lost in how our body works sometimes. I really was not as worried about weight loss but more worried about weight gain. I do believe it was because I was scared to take in a lot of calories and not realizing I need those calories. Looking at my labs I know that my protein definitely needed to be upped. I wish us all well. Peace to you all.
  5. Recycled, You are an ignorant obnoxious person who has nothing else to do but heckle people. You did not have to reply to my question much less continue your bs.
  6. Recycled, I am not an obsessive person, I do not weigh myself several times a day. I do not know why you would say that?! I weigh once a week because I was told too by my bariatric team, I was originally only going to measure myself. So I was only asking because I am gaining weight and as I said I was not worried about losing massive weight I was only concerned about the weight gain part of it.
  7. Thank you guys, I hate to whine and I am not usually a whiner but my biggest deal is gaining and losing the same lbs. It is frustrating when you are doing all you know to do. I have to eat my protein because this diva sleeve I have will not let me drink them, I drank them post op but I will heave and vomit if I try and drink them now and this puts me at a disadvantage not being able to drink them and add to my protein like everybody else does. I try so hard with the protein. I buy mostly all high protein foods and I track my foods in fat secret.com. I look at other peoples photos and I think to myself I wonder if i can ever get there we they are in the future especially gaining and losing the same weight. I am not giving up but just frustrated. I am sorry for those who feel as I do. I know we will succeed. Thanks again.

    Is there a slower loser?

I too am a slow loser, my surgery was February 26th so I am 5 weeks out. I lost a total of 23 lbs and the scale has not moved so I know that I will not be looking for big changes on the scale but rather with my clothes. I hope that it picks up because I am weight the same as I did when I went to my two week check up. I don't want my doctor to think I am not following his plans when I go back for my 6 weeks check up.

    Feeling discouraged

Not everyone can handle Protein supplements. I threw up all of those protein supplements and that really hurts to throw up with such a new stomach. I told my nutritionist and she let me go into mushy stage early and I have been eating my protein ever since. It is expensive to buy all of that proten when your stomach clearly doesnt want it. I have 200.00 worth of protein in my kitchen just wasting away.

    Regret

It seems like you didn't research the surgery well enough or ask the proper questions. The vitamins that you are on are what you have to take after gastric bypass. It looks like you were not well informed before the surgery. I am not trying to be funny but when you post something that pre op people or people considering the surgery may see and draw conclusions from, then you need to provide information that is outside of what the physician, nutritionist and psychiatrist did not already cover. I am sorry your husband is upset and that may be what is bothering you the most but certainly no one can predict weight loss from person to person. You didn't mention diet or exercise all we have to go on is that you are upset that you haven't lost all the weight you wanted within a time that you and your husband are more comfortable with. Please please don't be depressed regroup. Go see the nutritionist. Good luck!! vitamins: surgeon, pcp, and nutritionist expectations: psychiatrist support: psychiatrist, surgeon, pcp, group support, husband

    Horror stories....

I agree SFacey, some people aren't very honest with themselves much less others but still want to dish out advice. The first thing to successful weightloss is being honest with yourself, coming clean and admitting where you went wrong and only after you face that and tackle it head on will you be ready to lose weight successfully. I think some people just don't confront their demons and so they never get a grip on eating correctly. I am pre op and at first I was mad about the 6 month diet requirement of my insurance but after I really sat down and thought about it I feel like it is very necessary. I began to print off recipes, articles, I found you guys, and it has made me look at food differently. Sometimes my mind will tell me I am still hungry but I know I have eaten enough and so I just ignore it, before deciding to have weightloss surgery I would go ahead and eat more and then feel sorry for myself, no more!! I want to live, I have 2 grand babies and my kids promised me a big birthday party. I also want to go in the mall and by pass Lane Bryant. I can't wait!! Don't let people scare you out of what you feel is right for you.

    Horror stories....

We must always keep in mind that not everyone will experience problems and when listening to others and their experiences we should really be cautious. Some of these blogs that I have read on different sites should come with warning signs all over them. Always remember when receiving second hand information or third hand that you never know the entire story. People only tell you what they know which may not be much. I Actually had to call some out on you tube that posted a video of how the lapband failed her and that no one should get it, of course there were quite a few people who were apprehensive to have the surgery after watching her rant and rage for 12 minutes. My question to her was did the lapband fail her or did she fail the lapband?, Wls is a tool and if we dont get off of our butts and use or tools by getting in the gym, walking, lifting weights, cutting out fatty foods etc, we will fail at wls. I asked her how she was with exercising and monitoring her food intake and I never received a reply, I even inboxed her. So this is the problem, people are not being accountable and it is continuing after wls and this causes wls to not work. I told my doctor that during my 6 month diet I had a lot of changes to make because I have a big sweet tooth and it was not under control, I have to say 3 months into this 6 month diet I know that I can eat fruit, make a smoothie, or even have yogurt instead of having a twix, cheesescake, etc. Every surgery poses a threat to your life, but as it stands right now my life is being cut short daily by being as big as I am. I have read stories and I fortunately have witnessed with my eyes a lot of success stories. I just talked to a dear friend from high school that just told me today that she had no problems at all after her wls surgery and now 4 months later. Sorry for the long post but just be mindful that second hand info does not always give you all the information.

    Question for thought....

I would hope so but it seems that the insurance companies are faced with so many revisions as well. I have seen on so many forums,Obesity help, face book groups etc, that so many people are having revisions, so many people gaining all their weight back, etc. That can't be good as far as insurance goes. I would think if they all or the majority start to pay for it then it will most likely mean stricter guidelines and perhaps lesser coverage money wise. I was talking to a pharmacy friend the other week and she was saying how weight loss surgery really helped her sister but that her sister is back to her old ways and eating like crazy. She is still very proactive and is fighting for my company to cover bariatric surgery in both plans that they carry. I have also seen where people have made a decision to get lap bands but were not seeing the results they expected. If insurance ends up paying double for surgery and revisions it may not put us in a good place. I am a medical professional, I see people that have insurance pay for home cpap's, bipap's etc and then when I ask if they are wearing them they say no and I say why ? they say, I don't like it. These type of things are what will make insurance purse strings even tighter. I truly hope though that it does not become prejudiced for those of us who need the surgery now and for those in the future. I want everyone to have the chance to live a healthier life, reach their goals and maintain them. I wonder if some people go into the surgery thinking the surgery is the answer instead of a tool, this may be the issue. I have already mapped everything out and started buying equipment her and there for my "no excuses" campaign because I don't want to hear NO excuses from me when the time comes.
  14. Hi there I am new to this forum and I have a lot of jitters concerning insurance. First let me tell you my dilemma I have BCBS OF Alabama. My employer has 2 plans one of them is the cheaper plan where you have to see your pcp in order to get a referral to see a specialist. I am on this plan, in November during open enrollment I will be switching to the higher cost plan due to the plan I currently have excludes bariatric surgery and anything to do with it. Once I change in November it will become effective in January 2014. I am nervous because I have decided to go ahead with the 6 month diet, I have seen the nutritionist, I have my photos proving I have been obese( I am using photos because I don't have 3 years of morbid obesity in my chart, it is not written specifically). I am hoping that I have not done all this in vane. I was hoping to get a jump on things and be able to have the surgery in January or February. Has anyone had to change insurance like I have and not had to repeat the diet etc? also did anyone submit photos and if so were the 3 years prior to your surgery or submittance to insurance or can it be random photos over the years? I have called bcbs and they arekind of evasive and I know they do that on purpose. I don't want anything to go wrong because I am really taking a big chance by changing to an insurance that is way too expensive and if they approve me or not I am stuck paying it for at least a year. If anyone has any advice please let me know. Thanks so much and thanks for letting me be a part of this warm community. Theresa

    Newbie with Insurance questions!?!

Thanks everyone, you guys are great. I wanted to answer a few questions because I left out some information. I am as someone said above a planner, I am a medical professional who works for a hospital and I have been on the management side of my field so I know insurance and that is why dealing with them makes me nervous because they have power over the future of my health. First thing, I am not changing jobs, I am still going to be at my present job and I am currently covered under their bcbs and as of November during open enrollment I will be changing to the other plan that my hospital offers that is more expensive but covers bariatric surgery. I called Human resources and they told me to do it this way. I was referred by my pcp to my current bariatric surgeon and he is great. I am on my 6 month diet with 4 months left. I went to my surgeons conference and was very impressed, I made an appointment at the seminar for a consultation. I have been to my consultation and their insurance department has already told me that my current insurance does not cover bariatric surgery but I knew this already! I spoke with bcbs twice and I called HR to be sure. My surgeon and his team knows that I am going to change my insurance in November. They were impressed with my research and paperwork from getting my soon to be new plans group number and calling bcbs to verify that it is covered. My surgeon even worked up my lab work so it would be drawn through my pcp in order for me not to have to incur that cost and I am thankful for the blood work, he was very thorough because I found out that my dizziness and stomach issues were not just coming from my IBS-C but from H-pylori..ugh. I am done with my 14 day 6 antibiotics a day therapy and I also am on vitamin D. The nutritionist that I have been to is part of the bariatric group and is in my surgeons office, she is going to go over pre op and post op diet again in January for me, I have been fortunate enough to have a great pcp and he is a big supporter but I worry about his wording and writing the proper information in my chart. I have told him what is required and he assured me that he is taking care of it and I surely hope so. I received a 6 month packet from my surgeon in which I take 1 month over every month for them to fill out and to be placed in my chart and they give me a copy for the surgeon and I also keep one for my files I am hoping this will be fine but I know that he must also continue to document as well. I have only a psych eval left to do,print off my photos with time stamp on them, finish my 6 month diet, and do the proper paperwork in November. My surgeon has not said anything about the psych eval as far as doing it now but that is ok because I would rather wait until January to do it so it will be closer. HR says the only wait time I have is to be employed a year at the hospital but that excludes me because I have been at the hospital for way over a year and I am only switching and not getting insurance for the first time. My worry is actually having to do everything all over again but my surgeon seems to think it is fine for me to go ahead and do what I need to do and be ready in January. I can't help but worry if I am doing it right because insurance is so evasive and they will only guide you and point to the same material and read it word for word like I hadn't already read it a thousand times. There is pretty much nothing I can do with the surgeon because until I change insurance he can't file anything. My surgeon says that unless I have had heart problems, pulmonary problems etc then he won't require me to go see a cardiologist nor a Pulmonologist. My biggest thing with insurance is that I am scared that I will be turned down because I have jumped the gun on some things or have not covered my bases with proper documentation. Do you guys remember what was written out on each of your pcp diet visits? I have read on several forum how people were turned down due to improper documentation and I don't want that to be me. I have worked up the courage and I am mentally read to shed this fat and live longer than my parents. Thanks guys for everything. T
