We are bypass buddies! I am having a band to bypass revision on the 19th! Do you have to do a liquid diet beforehand?
-
I am fighting the urge to start eating all the things I will never have again.....Krispy Kreme donuts come to mind!!! So afraid of living without sugar, but know that is best!
-
Do you ever get hungry. - like tummy growling hungry?? Like empty feeling in the pit of your stomach hungry? How does full feel? Like after a big thanksgiving dinner, or just a tightness in your chest?

Why do revisions lose slower?
Kcarr1120 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have read several comments that revision patients don't lose as fast as "virgins". Why is that? I am back at my pre and starting weight, so it's not like I only have a little to lose..... -
16k is awesome! I am in Atlanta and it will be nearly 22k for the removal of the band and revision (all one surgery) including 2 nights in the hospital.

I have read a lot of posts from non-revision rny folks about throwing up and having food get stuck. Is this the same kind of thing that I experience nearly daily with my band? I don't want to live a life of getting stuck, sliming, and puking with rny....is it different????

I am having the revision done next month!
Kcarr1120 replied to MommyToHudson's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am having the revision 8/19 and have 12 month and 4 year old boys! I did ask the dr. About my lifting restriction and he said 20 lb ( which is what my little one weighs). We do have a nanny, but she is not a live in, and my husband works and travels a lot. Hopefully I will recover from the bypass as quickly as I did from the lapband back in 2005. Good luck to you! -
I am also scheduled 8/19 for a band to bypass revision. I am in Atlanta with dr. Johnson

I was told by my psych. That most all medicines can be compounded into liquid by a specialty compounding pharmacy. My bar. Surgeon says I should have no problems swallowing my pills though...

August 19 woohoo!

Met with the surgeon to ask more questions, and wanted to know if he would do a "proximal or distal" bypass. He says nowadays everyone has a proximal bypass meaning less small intestine is bypassed (I think?)....like only 30 cm......he says there is very little actual malabsorption.....it is primarily restrictive. Really? How much did you have "bypassed"
-
I had asked what % of calories are not absorbed, and maybe he thought I was trying to play a numbers game, so he said what he said. - not sure, but I agree - I thought the big payoff was the meal absorptive aspect!
-
Hi ladies....my band to bypass revision is scheduled for 8/19. - I am so excited to be rid of the band and able to actually eat healthy food....I am worried about giving up the sugar though....I have become a major addict since the band since sugar goes down so easy! I pray that I have a mentality switch like ya'll have!
-
I am worried how my time release anti depressants will work once I get rny - does anyone have any experience with this? Can they just be switched for non time release, or will the dosage have to be adjusted too?
-
So after RNY, what % of the calories you eat are actually absorbed? Does this malabsorption stop 1-2 years out once your body gets used to your new plumbing??
-
What have your lifting restrictions been post surgery? I have a 12 month and 4 year old, so I am hoping it won't be for too long......just wanted to get an idea before I see the surgeon next week..... Thanks!

I am so afraid of failing......I failed with the lapband - lost 60 pounds in 2005 and after 2 babies (plus two more preg. That resulted in miscarriage) I have gained all my weight back. How will I be able to do this any differently? I would be so disappointed in myself if I was an RNY failure...whether failing to lose any, or gaining back......any words of encouragement are greatly appreciated!

Went from 279 to 160 and from a 22 to 7/8 6months out :) 10pounds to my goal weight whoop whoop

If we could change our lifestyle we wouldn't be fat!
Kcarr1120 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Ok, so I know that upon undergoing any wls one must "change his lifestyle toward eating healthy". I just don't understand how that happens when we have gone thru our lives unable to "change our lifestyle" in order to lose weight and keep it off....how does having bypass really help in the LONG RUN with that?? I don't want to go thru surgery just to gain my weight back... -
Does anyone regret having bypass? If so why?
-
So can you still have an occasional glass of wine, or does the sugar cause dumping?
-
How common is it to get a stricture??? That worries me since I will be self pay!
-
Hi everyone! I have been banded since 2005. I lost 60 lb in the first two years and then went thru a period of esophageal dilation, fertility treatments, two miscarriages and two babies born......needless to say, I am right back where I started pre-band. My husband thinks the only reason I have not been successful with the band is because I "cheat" with it, as in I drink with food in order to get it down, I still drink carbonated bev. on occasion, I don't eat my protein first, and I eat junk (cause as we all know it is the processed crap that slides down easily!) I am trying to convince him that the failure with the band is not all my fault....maybe it is....maybe if I had more willpower.....I don't know.....I am self pay, so I need to be certain that this is the right choice for me. I know many people who have had RNY and gained all the weight back - this cannot be what happens to me, but I am afraid that if I have not followed all the rules with the band I will eventually break the RNY rules. Did any of you "cheat" your band and now find with the RNY you are in compliance with a healthy eating plan and following the rules?
