I had the same problem with the tickle in the throat for a few days after surgery. I would suck on a cough drop right before going to bed and it helped. I kept some next to the bed too in case I woke up during the night.

Banding.....August 2007! Who else?
pammycakes replied to JudiM's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Eating solids too soon after surgery can cause the band to slip because it hasnt had time to heal and get "seated" around the stomach. Do your best to follow your doctors recommendations on what to eat after surgery. -
I was nervous before also. More so about how well and what I would be able to eat after the fill than the actual fill. It seems to be working alright. Not sure but I think I can still eat more than they really want you too but Im not eating too many calories in a day so I think I am ok. I have heard that it can take up to 2 weeks for a fill to be effective. I had 3cc's put in. I guess this is an average amount for the first fill.... I dont remember which of the nurses did the procedure. I am so terrible with names. The fill itself went well. She had to do a bit of searching to make sure she was in the port but it wasnt very painful. More like a pinch or a bee sting. Good luck today and relax!!

Hi Heather, I got my first fill last week. I didnt get any instructions on what to eat or not eat before but afterward they will tell you to be on mushies for 24 hours. Hope everything goes well for you.

Silly post-op question that I forgot to ask..
pammycakes replied to guinessgirl77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My post op instructions said as soon as I felt up to it... just not in the hospital lol -
I was wondering if any of our newly banded crazy ates were experiencing any bruising with their scars. I have one quite dark coming down form where my port is located at the top of my stomach just below where my bra crosses.

oops... that should be 48 hours on soft food before I can go to solids.

I just got home from getting my fill and it went very well. The actual procedure only took about 15 minutes. I really didnt find it painful at all, just felt like a pinch or a bee sting. I found out that I have a small AP band that holds about 10 cc. The nurse put in 3 cc, which kinda surprised me that it was so much but water was going down, slowly but down. I am sipping on some tomato soup right now, feels good but Im going slow to make sure everything is ok. I am to be on soft food for 24 hours.

My doctors office didnt give me any special instructions about eating or not eating before my fill. Im scheduled for 1:30 so Im not planning eating lunch till later just in case. My doctor has a standard time for when you can schedule your first fill, its 4 weeks after surgery. He is a little more relaxed I guess you would call it all the way around. I was able to go to mushies just 2 days after surgery. I will let everyone know how my fill goes tomorrow. Thanks for your well wishes

During surgery, is it mandatory.....
pammycakes replied to marieze's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I didn't have the socks. For my surgery they put compression cuffs on my legs which were just velcroed on. They were off when I woke up in recovery. -
I wasnt told one way or the other about chewing gum. I have been chewing it without any problem. I like to use it to moisten my mouth and freshen it after eating until I can drink water.

I dont know what Hannah has but I had bandaids over my steri strips which I was instructed to take off the following day after my surgery. This is probably what she was talking about.

Older Women who Love Younger Men..Is it time for that?
pammycakes replied to Lee4love1's topic in Rants & Raves
I am 38 and my boyfriend is 25. We have been together a year now and living together for 6 months. He is more mature than men I have dated who were my age or older. When we first started talking I never would have imagined it growing into what we have today. But I can honestly say that he is my best friend, there is nothing we can't talk about. It is because of him that I came to the decision to get the lap band. I want to be healthy so that I have many many years to spend with him. -
*waves hand in the air*..... Houston here too!!

I dont think that the type of band has anything to do with your feeling hungry right now. A lot of doctors put the band in empty, so you wont feel restriction until you get a fill. And from what I understand you will still get hungry until the right fill in your band. I am still learning about all of this myself and know that everyone is different and it takes time to get to know your band.

Texas August banders
pammycakes replied to heavensgiggles's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded by Dr. Spivak in Houston also, on Aug. 8th. I have lost 24 lbs since the surgery. Other than really wishing I could be eating solid foods I am doing and feeling great. -
The Crazy Ates invites all August banders to join us!

Check with your doctor to see what they recommend. Everyone is different. My doctor let me go to mushies on the third day after surgery and I stay on mushies for 4 weeks. I am SOOOO ready for solid food. And for those trying to get enough protein during the mushie stage.... what I have been doing is having one Boost a day and atleast one serving of fish. Such as Gortons frozen fish fillets (comes in different flavors), grilling my own fresh fillets (my favorite is salmon on done on a George Forman grill sprinkled with some Mrs. Dash seasoning) and tuna which I add some sweet relish and just a little bit of light salad dressing. -

New post-ops.....what are you eating/drinking?
pammycakes replied to JudiM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I also have been on full mushies since the 3rd day and I also was banded on the same day as you Karen. Here are some of the things I have been having. Low sugar brown sugar and maple oatmeal thinned down a little bit, Boost atleast once a day, Gortons frozen fish fillets, cottage cheese, refried beans, creamed corn (is nice as a treat), string cheese, FF Jello, FF pudding, mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, creamy soups, scrambled eggs and SF Popsicles. I have lost 20 lbs since surgery. Guess I had a lot of water to get rid of but I expect it to slow down really soon. -

pammycakes replied to JudiM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Another good thing for mushie stage which was recommended by my doctor was fish fillets. I have been getting Gortons frozen fillets which come in flavors such as lemon pepper, lemon butter, garlic butter and salmon with lemon butter (my favorite). Also instead of mashed potatoes try mashed sweet potatoes. They have more nutrients than regular mashed potatoes. -

I am also one week post surgery and have lost about 14 lbs myself. I went to a support group at my surgeons office last night and was congratulated for losing so much. I think it has mainly been water weight right now and I expect it to slow down soon.

I was wondering how long it took for the discomfort around the port area to go away. I am also feeling a pain now and then like a stitch pulling inside when I turn certain ways. I was wondering if this is normal. This is the only time ever that I wished I didnt have breasts, between my bra rubbing and them "resting" on delicate areas without the bra.

Stomach discomfort
pammycakes replied to pammycakes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I understand water liquefies the food you have eaten making it go through the band quicker, restricted or not. Now if you are still on an all liquid diet still Im not sure if it matters or not. I do have to say that I am feeling a bit better today. I had oatmeal for breakfast and made sure to wait long enough before drinking water. It seemed to help for a little bit but still didnt keep my stomach from getting hungry for long after I started on the water again. -
I was banded on August 8th and the past couple of days my stomach is always complaining. Either its full or its empty. There is never a time when I dont notice it. I am on mushies right now and the food never seems to last long in my stomach so most the time I am feeling hungry even when I am drinking water. Is this normal? Will it go away?
