Does anyone know if there are specific questions the pyschologist asks in the eval for the gastic bypass surgery? Thanks!

Did anyone have severe knee or lower back arthritis before the surgery and it was resolved after surgery? If not, are u still able to take NSAIDS (Tylenol, tramadol, percocet, etc) for relief?

Hello All! I am trying to drink Slim Fast to jump start my weight loss until the Nutritionist provides info on the liquid diet, protein shakes, etc, but OMG I just opened one and it is HORRID! Does anyone know if the Protein Shakes (that seems to be a way of life post surgery) taste anything like a Slim Fast shake? I even put it in the freezer to make it slushy, but it is gross. And for lunch I have caramel rice cakes and unsalted almonds for a snack. I fear by 5 pm, I will go running to the closest McDonalds for a Big Mac and fries. OMG, this is going to be a lot harder than I expected. I want to lose weight and do well so badly, that I thought the liquid diet/protein shakes and decreased amount of food would be easy to deal with, but I'm worried now. Ughhhh

Nursemissy, I googled Plaquenil and will research injections, prednisone, etc. I am unfamiliar with injections, etc for pain relief...only knew about pills and since they do not work for me, I was at a loss. I should see a Pain Management doctor to learn what my options are. Thank you!

Colorado, I really want to have a knee replacement, but the Ortho dr refused due to my weight. Dr said if a knee replacement last 15 yrs for a normal size person, and if he replaced my knee, due to weight, wear and tear, it may only last 7 yrs. I feel as long as I am (with insurance assistance) paying for the replacement, I am entitled to the 7 years! It should not matter to him that the replacement may not last as long as intended, as long his services are paid. Then he brought up the fact that surgery is risky at my weight...well me falling down on someone if my knee goes out is risky for others too!!!! haaa

Wow, guys thanks so much. I just couldn't imagine what type of questions a pyschologist would ask about me having WLS? But I'm ready for whatever! Thanks again all!

@nursemissy, truly nothing works for me. My knee is bone on bone. Ive taken all over the counter meds, tylenol, aleve, advil. Ive taken prescription, mobic, tramadol, vicodin, percocet which makes me sick and woosy (lightheaded/dizzy) and sleepy. Ive had cortisone injections which are laughable and synvisc injections, expensive and of no help. Ughhh. So i move very little now days.

Thank u all sooo much for ur comments and advice. It helps so much to know that others understands even a little bit of what i go through. I hope u all have a wonderful day full of fun, weight loss and noooo pain!

Unfortunately, nothing works for me. My pain laughs at tylenol, tramadol, aleve...percocet does not help either, but makes me sick. Because of this my quality of life has decreased...cant do much because of the pain, but Im claiming great relief after the surgery and weight loss. :-)

Thank u all for ur replies. I am bone on bone in left knee and my right knee is quickly catching up. I have tried all types of pills, but nothing works. Cortisone shots are a waste of time for me. I am sincerely hoping that weight loss greatly improves pain. I would welcome knee replacement, but must loose weight first. Thank u all again.

Godzchild1982, what type of pain did u experience? & what can u take for it. Im alittle concerned about not being able to take tylenol or nsaids as i have bone on bone arthritis n my knee and lower back arthritis. Not that anything ive ever taken has worked, but ive been told that after rny surgery, cannot take nsaids, etc. -
Sheri H, i cannot wait to to have my surgery as i go to the restroom at least 4 times at night. I can sit all day long and not go, but the moment i lay day, the olympic sprints back and fourth begins! Oohh to sleep all thru the night will b wonderful. Im also ready to stop taking the diabetes and all the high blood pressure meds as well. Congrats to u and others that have had surgery.

Thanks ajustice and terry1113. Having this forum to vent and read that others are dealing with same issues is wonderful. I appreciate being able to get tips and advice on how to handle things, etc. I am experiencing so many new feelings. Coming to the relaxation that i did this to myself is hard. But as u said, im trying hard to look.toward the future. Imaging me doing things i used to do...cleaning my house to my satisfaction, not paying sooo much for my clothing, being able to participate in the fire drills at work and walk down 10 flights of steps instead of bein on the list of indvs that cant and having to wait in the hall (while the sirens are blasting) until the drill is over. Anyway, God willing by the next fire drill i will b zipping or maybe slowly walking down those steps with everyone else. Woo hoo -

Thank u Mitzie46. I do not have a date yet. Ive just started this journey and getting the cardiologist visit, psych approval, etc done. My insurance covers WLS w/o the extra requirements, so Im claiming a July/August surgery date. -

I am new to this site, but love it already. Everyone is so supportive and friendly. I must be struggling worst than i realize as I was at work reading this topic and found myself crying...thinking about alllll the things I cannot do now. My list is sad and extensive! I will not miss having to sit in the car (in all types of weather) while my fiancee does all the shopping, because my knees and back hurt to much to walk around the store... Not to mention the excessive sweating Wont miss the medication I can barely remember to take anyway Having to use a cane and/or wheelchair Being afraid to go to friends/family homes because I may not fit in their chairs and/or there may be lots of steps to climb. For that matter being afraid to go anywhere, theatres, restaurants, parks, clubs, church, etc. Ordering 90% of my clothing from catalogs... Then having to return some because they dont fit or are just plain ugly Not being able to walk with my co-workers at lunch and having to pretend that I'd rather surf the internet....but since I found this site, I would rather.... Not being able to babysit my granddaughter (by myself) because i cant run back and fourth with her Not being able to visit my parents, grandmother and brothers graves because of th e walk Being winded just from the short walk from my truck to my office or bathroom Having assistance bathing and applying lotion to my feet Being to tired and lazy to cook or get a cup of Water....so doing without or resorting to that ever present bag of potato chips or candy, thats on the table next to the bed Im no doubt laying in. Whewwww Im making myself sad again.. But looking forward to brighter days full of me being able to do all of the above and feeling wonderful.
