I feel your pain after having this surgery I had a lot of problems with some of my daily meds. Like my ambien cr wouldn't dissolve with the stomach acids. I had to switch from aciphex to Zantac. Pain meds were tough I had to go to dilaudid . It works the best. I was hospitalized 5x after my surgery in the 5 months following bypass. I ended up going to a gastroneurologist. He's helped a lot. Hope you find what works. I had a total knee replacement surgery a few years before my bypass surgery

A feeling similar to morning sickness?
traumatrish2 replied to CarmelKiwi's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
About feelings of morning sickness. I know how you feel I thought it would get better but it hasn't. I'm almost two years since my surgery. I've lost a total of 180 lbs. now I'm trying to gain back 20lbs. Food looks gross and smells worse. So I eat ice cream, drink whole milk, protein shake and some food. Believe it or not I eat an eggo with butter and peanut butter every morning and ramien noodles with chicken broth and cheddar cheese every night. Last night I had beef stew it was delicious but 2 hrs later my stomach soured and I took chewable tums, some Zofran and an hour later I vomited. I too feel like this daily but mine is actually in the morning. I'm seeing a gastroenterologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and they found its not from the surgery I've had this for years. So now I take gabapentin to help me swallow and tolerate food. I haven't tried a steak or cheeseburger yet. I drool over them. But I am going to try one. I wish you luck. I try food now I just have to get it to stay down. -
I understand how you feel I went through the same but I ended up in the hospital 5 times. It wasn't fun the vomiting and nausea are horrendous . But it does get better I lost 154 lbs and I'm happy with the progress. You will feel better about yourself. The surgical group I have use support groups for 5 yrs.

Sent Sunday night in the ER because of nausea. and vomiting. I explained to the Dr about my lump and something will be done about it. Anyhow they filled me up with fluids, meds and sent me home. I felt a lot better. Bad to protein shakes.

Burning pain in upper right side of abdomen
traumatrish2 replied to Brandy36's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had that pain but it was within 2weeks of having my rny. Turns out my gallbladder had to come out. I never had any trouble with my gallbladder before. Once it came out i was better. But I'm Murphy's granddaughter and whatever can go wrong did. -
Right now that's all I'm getting for nourishment. Just before Christmas I felt a lump in my throat, I thought it was phlegm. But I couldn't swallow and if I did manage to swallow I only vomited it later. This was the second time I had trouble swallowing. First time I had all kinds of tests now it's a guessing game so I went to Mass Eye,Ears and Throat Institute they found a lump by my voice box and it interferes with swallowing. I watched as the doctors were following my lump. So I haven't had any food since 2/14 and just had swallowing ct scans on Thursday. I can't wait to have this fixed. I'm dying for a steak and to just be able to eat. Protein shakes with hot chocolate and ice cream twice a day is getting old. But I've only lost 2lbs. Aside from the 154lbs I already lost.

MaryMcgr62. Don't give up, i've been going through a lot of the same problems. I have constant nausea and vomiting. Been back to the hospital 5 times. I look at food when I'm hungry and I can't eat cause the nausea prevails. I've had to have IV fluids for dehydration. Now I'm doing better eating food and not vomiting.. Don't give up I lost 87 lbs. since May 1st. I wanted to give up, but I keep losing weight and it feels so rewarding. I have a sister that eats whatever she wants and weighs much more than me and when we're together it Disgust me how much she eats. It deters me from eating. I get no support from my mom or sister. However my brrother and sister in law support me. For now I'm eating and holding it down. That's why I had this surgery. Have faith it will work out..Good luck.

I had my surgery in May for the first few weeks I was doing well with my diet. The next week I started vomiting and having upper abd pain. Into the hospital I went. Seems my gallbladder was acting up. I went home after 4 days. Restarted my diet and doing well for 2 weeks. Then I started vomiting again. Back into the hospital after the weekend I had my gallbladder removed went home a couple of days later after I was eating food. Life w as good my taste budds were off. I couldn't tolerate the taste of water and anything you would mix with it. Water tasted like rust. I'm between a rock Nd a hard place. Was doing well with my food. Then I could only drink milk and last thursday I vomited milk, so when I went to the doctor I was admitted to the hospital for dehydration and nausea. Just got out Sunday. I've lost 87lbs. but dealing with this nausea is too much. Has anyone had a similar experience. I do feel good about myself. I've gone from a size 28 down to a 20. I have 2 pair of brand new jeans each worn twice and I've out grown them.

my gastric surgery story
traumatrish2 replied to traumatrish2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Kellylessbelly---I was doing well right after surgery. 2 weeks then the n/v started. It continues to date. After being in the hospital for the fifth time and more scans. The Dr finally put a label on it such as gastropersis. Where my pouch is very slow to empty into my sm intestines also empty slowly. Now I wear a scolpolmine patch that helps me get rid of the nausea. The Dr says this will go away in about 3-6 months and my taste should come back in the same amount of time. I had my surgery May 1 st. Good luck. It does get better. -

Does it get easier?
traumatrish2 replied to taraster25's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tarastar25- I know exactly how you feel. I can't stand the protein drinks they have a funny taste just like water. I have been able to drink 5-6 glasses of milk a day. After this last hospital stay I was rehydrated and felt better. Today I had solid food so it was a plus. Wish you luck in finding what you can tolerate.
