Hey now! Background: i have been heavy my whole life and since my 30's have been just plain old every day run of the mill fat! 450+ ( at some points heavier). i have treied every diet on earth. my story begins August 2012 in the diner in Media Pa. My best friend asked me to look into Gastric bypass surgery for 3 reasons 1: he is my brother and loves me 2: i was turning 50 in September 3: lets face i was not getting any thinner. After my research i determined that this was the tool i had been missing. i further checked on insurance and company policy on medical leave.all came back very positive. After narrowing down the possible hospitals in the Philadelphia area, i arrive at the doorsteps of Bryn Mawr hospital and the bariactric center headed by Dr. Richard Ing. It has been nine months of testing and pre screening and i am in the final pre-op stretch and on my liquid diet phase. i am scheduled and fully ready to move to the next phase of my life after surgey on june 12, 2013. I have dropped 35lbs so far and that was before the liquid diet started. i exercise on a daily basis and the results are amazing. i feel like a new man, ( why did i wait so long...doh!) i am at the best place i have been in years both physicaly and mentally. in one word my life is AWESOME! can only imagine were i will be a year from today. wish me luck, June 12th is just around the corner..catch ya later RJ

Carol im faced with a similar event in September the Bloomsburg County State Fair. i found last year that a major thing to keep my mind for being bad was the simple act of ordering the food receiving and smelling it curbed the urge. i would then pass it over to the family...... strange but it tricked the mind enough that i never had fair food and did not miss it.... I did lots of walking infact outwalked the teenagers :-) Enjoy your fair. its a wonderful happy place

I know we did this when this thread started but since we have some new folks in here how about a we tell where we are located? I live in a small town south of Philadelphia by 16 or so miles called Media, Pa. Its a great place to live, very healthy enviorment. just about everyone walks more than driving. Its the county seat and we have a trolley that comes right up our main street in town. lots of events. lots of trees!!!! a very artsy community and has a very hippie vibe going on and most people have tattoos and hang out at all of the small coffee shops here in town. you will find me on the plum street mall most early mornings at the Seven Stones Cafe occupying an outside table with my kindle and a triple shot ice coffee (skim & steva) god i love this town!! Well look forward too hearing from everyone. Have a great day. RJ

If i where you Mitz i would press the issue. better safe that layed up doubled over in massive pain in the ER.
-
NO! you are not crazy. i had a for the most part painless surgery over a year ago and was ready to hit the trails within a week. i have energy levels that would rival the hoover dams energy output. just take that energy and focus on your exercise and sqeezing the enjoyment out of life ever minute for the rest of you long life. try all of the things you thought you could never do.....you will be amazed at how much is out there
-
Kristi. i know last week you had an issue with belly pain. what did that turn out to be if i may be so bold to ask. i thought of you when i was in the ER.
-
Congratulations!!!

pancreatitis: noun definition: a condition were the patient is heard to say over and over "this f#$$ing really hurts/ sucks. Sorry for the implied cursing but i have spent a fun 72 hours in my local hospital because of that noun. im lucky the doctors found nothing after lots of poking and prodding including a catscan and mri. in the end it comes down to massive weight loss has the real possibilities of this noun and gall stones. I highly encourage you to get your thin backside to the ER/ hospital if you have belly pain, sweats, neasua. Im ok now but for a number of hours on sunday were far from pleasent. i know alot of us in here qualify as "massive weight loss" and since i can attest to the severity of the pain thought it prudent to put this condition out there. Have a great evening RJ

Anyone have any "tricks" for dealing with head hunger. i find when i cannot get out of the house and am waiting on something ( like being on call 24-7 for the past week) i struggle with it. i can say my choices are healthy but still found myself wanting to eat for no good reason. any help would be awesome.
