    April 2013 Post-Op Group

So glad you're okay! The car is replaceable. You are not. I'm sure it's horrible to lose your car, but it could have been much worse. Hoping tomorrow is a much improved day.

    What ya eating tonight?

I got Chinese carry out, too. I had chicken and shrimp in a brown sauce. I had three bites of chicken, 3 shrimp, and a tiny bit of sauce. I also had 2 green beans, 1 tablespoon of shrimp fried rice, and about 1 oz. of watermelon. It felt good to have a variety and I'm doing good on protein today. So far, so good. I'm not even belching so far. Fingers crossed.
  3. Just went to get my drain checked and they removed it. The doctor feels nearly 100% confident that the infection is gone! I have 2 more days of antibiotics, and hopefully that'll be the end of the infected hematoma at the old site of my gallbladder. I am also down 31.5 lbs since the start of my 2 day pre-op liquid diet. Surgery was 5 weeks ago. Feeling pretty positive right now.
  4. Went to Kohl's tonight with my 30% off coupon and scored some great deals on some smaller sizes. I know I'm taking a risk by buying ahead, but with these prices it was worth it. I bought 2-3 pairs of pants in several upcoming sizes. I stayed pretty realistic. Don't want to curse myself. Most of the pants were about $7 after the discount. Score!!

    June Post Ops!

I'm a teacher, too. I teach 2nd grade. I had my surgery on 6/18, which was the earliest I could get once school got out. After tomorrow, we're down to 3 weeks of summer break left and I have so much I want to get done! I'm fighting an internal infection and had to have another drain put in last Friday. Praying that the drain comes out on Monday and that the infection is gone!! I need those 3 weeks!!

    What ya eating tonight?

I'm 4 1/2 weeks out and I got adventurous. I got a Subway 6 in. Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki Sub. I didn't eat the bread and I only got tomatoes as a topping, but it still felt decadent. I did take two tiny bites of the bread. It's the first post-op bread I've eaten. It's been about 15 minutes since I finished. So far, so good. Keeping my fingers crossed.

  9. Tomorrow is my one month anniversary. I'm down 25 lbs. Here I am 2 days before surgery and again today. I've had some complications, so I'm thrilled with this.

    Help

I'm just over 3 weeks out. I was readmitted to the hospital about 10 days after surgery with a fever of 102.4. They treated me with IV antibiotics and did a CT. They weren't sure what was causing the fever, but I responded to the antibiotics and was sent home after two nights. They gave me 5 more days if antibiotics to take at home. Well, I've been off of them about 6 days, and tonight my temperature is 100.8. That's not high enough to head to the ER, but should I call the doctor on call. Their message says only to call with medical emergencies. Thoughts?

    Help

They drained the abscess with a needle. They use the CT scanner to help guide the process. They also inserted a drain. Got to come home about 4 hours after the procedure. Pain is actually worse than I expected, but I'm hoping that improves with time. I may not need the drain beyond Monday. They said I could get it checked and possibly removed if the output wasn't much, and it's been pretty minimal. I'm on antibiotics also, so my fever is subsiding and that has made me feel better and sleep better. Sure hoping this does the trick and the infection is gone. I want to just concentrate on healing from the rny and begin enjoying the weight loss.

    Help

Alrighty, they did a urinalysis, blood work, and a CT scan. They say I have an abscess where my gall bladder used to be. The best option is to have someone from X-ray insert a needle and drain the abscess and insert a drain, which I'll need to keep for a full week. They say I'll be sedated and won't feel a thing. The other option is another surgery, so I'm going with the needle. I head back to the hospital this evening and will have the procedure early tomorrow morning. Should come home by tomorrow evening. I'll also go back on antibiotics. Hoping for the best!!

    Help

I did call and my surgeon was the one on call. She advised that I take Tylenol to bring the fever down and they will call me in the morning to set up another CT scan to see if they can figure out what's going on. I have no other symptoms. Let's hope I get an answer. I feel like I'm walking on eggshells for fear of a fever.

    Birthcontrol

I'm 48 and have a long history of infertility with PCOS. I haven't used birth control in years. Do you think I need to now? I'm just 3 weeks out.
  18. Alright, I saw someone on YouTube doing this and I wasn't planning on doing it, but I'm glad I did. Hummus is on my food list, but I didn't know what to eat it with. I can't do raw vegetables or crackers yet. Gerber has these little cheddar puffs that pretty much melt in your mouth. A full serving, which is perfect with 2 tbsp. hummus, is only 35 calories. I'm sure it's empty calories, but it's not much and it allowed me to crunch!! I had it with tilapia for a low calorie, yet fairly high in protein dinner.
  19. I was trying to increase the protein amount of my Unjury shake, so I added 2 tsp. of regular Skippy peanut butter. I've already gotten most of it down, but it's not agreeing with me. My guess is that the sugar and/or fat in the pb is causing the problem. I'm only 2 weeks out. Anyone have any insight?

    Peanut Butter Question

Sounds like I just need to stay away from Peanut Butter for the time being. It tasted so good when I licked the spoon. Bummer! I have had the dried peanut butter, but it was years ago. May need to get another jar. Anyone know where to buy it other than online. Last time, I think I had to buy 6 jars and I'm not sure I want to do that. I've never tried it with yogurt. Sounds interesting.

    June Post Ops!

I walk at least once a day and I try to go at least a mile at this stage (15 days out). I'm really not feeling much abdominal pain at this point, so I need to start pushing myself a little more. Wish the weather would stay cool. It's hard to want to walk when it's so muggy.

    Burning like acid

I think I had the same thing. I'm just two weeks out, as of today, but for that first week I kept experiencing a nasty taste and the feeling of something coming back up the back of my throat. I'd never had acid reflux before, but I assume that's what it was. My stopped on its own.

    Recovery?

I had surgery on Tuesday and came home on Thursday. Not sure how much age and weight play into this. I'm 47 and my surgery day weight was 260. I was told you could drive when you're 1 1/2-2 weeks out, as long as you're off pain meds. I am almost 2 weeks out and am still not moving around pain free. My pain is minor, but I'm certainly not moving normally. I still can't sleep on my side and I still have to think about how to best get up from a sitting or laying position. I also had to be readmitted to the hospital due to a fever, so that may have set me back a little.
  25. Friday night I had to be readmitted to the hospital due to a fever. At home, it registered 102.4, but it was only 101.6 at the ER. They ran some tests and kept me two nights. They aren't really sure what caused the infection or even where it is, but the IV antibiotics brought the fever and my white blood cell count down. I am on Keflex for another 5 days. Hoping this takes care of things. By the way, the doctor said the Keflex capsules would be fine to swallow, but my pre-op classes said pills should be smaller than a dime. The capsules are longer than a dime by a far amount. Took my first dose in apple sauce to be safe. Anyone know whether I need to continue that?
