I'll add onto this when I get time.

My name is Sarah. I have two daughters, ages 15 (Brieanna) and 11 (Sylar), and two cats - a himi named Mr. Mushy Face and a black domestic short hair named Zim. I currently live in Oregon in a suburb of Portland and work in software development.

My fight to lose weight started after I had my second daughter, Sylar, at age 21. I went into menopause right after having her and could not lose the weight no matter how hard I tried. The sad part was, I didn't know that I went into menopause until 2008. Seven years of thinking I was going crazy! It wasn't until I got tired of the hot flashes at night that I decided to ask my physician about it. She tested my FSH and sure enough I was postmenopausal. After that I found a naturopathic physician and had a second opinion done.

In 2011 I started having non-stop heartburn. While I was travelling for work that year I started having terrible stomach pain which led to me vomiting blood all night. After getting back home safely and having my first endoscopy done, I found that I had esophageal and gastric ulcers and was put on Nexium twice a day. I lived with daily heartburn and stomach pain for a year before I went back in for another endoscopy. To my relief my ulcers had healed but I had a hiatal hernia which was causing most of my discomfort. I not only needed to lose weight, but I needed to get the hernia fixed. It was at that time that I asked whether a gastric bypass would be a good option. It turns out that it was! I was told that during the surgery the hernia could also be addressed. That was November 2012. By December I had attended the weight loss surgery orientation at OHSU (Oregon Health and Sciences University) and was working to get the paperwork and tests done for the gastric bypass.

Fast forward to now. I created my account on RNYTalk.com the second day after my gastric bypas surgery. I'm still getting used to journaling anything online. We'll see how it goes.
