    Hi everyone!

    Hey Mandy and Jane, Monday is my day too. Good luck on Monday. I won't be home until Tuesday, but I'll be checking to see how you are doing.
  2. Brenda, Welcome and good luck on your surgery Wednesday. My surgery is Monday. I'm really excited too. I have so much to do this weekend that I'm hoping I won't have time to get nervous. We'll have to compare notes.

    Try looking up your policy online. My insurance card had a website listed on it. I believe that most policies that cover WLS require a BMI greater than 40 or a BMI of 35-39 with co-morbid conditions.

    I just finished my 6 month medically supervised period. I agree with faithmd that you should cut the white or refined carbs. I have an Atkins shake every morning for Breakfast. I find that on most days, it keeps me full until lunch. I also kept Protein bars in my desk at work for when I thought I was starving (even though I know I wasn't - but somewhere around 4pm every afternoon seemed to be a bad time for me.) Some Protein Bars are awful, but I found one at my grocery store that is pretty good. It's Pure Protein - S'mores. It has 19 grams of protein, 180 calories and 5 fat grams. There are many others, but some are really bad. If you do decide to try protein bars, I would suggest that you limit them as the calories do add up. I used to eat one nearly every other day, but I've cut down now to about 5 a month. I would also suggest that you log everything your eating on FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal or some similar website. At first I was just writing what I had eaten in a notebook in my purse. In reality, even though I was writing it down, I had no idea what was what as far as total nutritional information. When I found Fitday (recommended by someone on this site), it was definitely an eye opener for me. Now my family thought I was nuts the day they came in and found me with all this food in front of me while I was sitting here at the computer. I wasn't eating it, I was inputting the nutritional info for the foods I most often ate. That made it was easier to log because I didn't have to search everytime I needed to log what I had just eaten. I've seen some people recommend that you log your food before you eat it. I didn't start using Fitday until 4 months into my 6 month program, but the dietician seemed impressed and I did see more weight come off. Good luck.
  9. ts505050, I will not be banded until the 24th of this month, but I did just finish a medical weight loss program. You did not mention the specifics of your weight loss clinic, but if you see a dietician, explain where you are struggling. Ask for suggestions. I found that to be really helpful. Good luck.

    Just beginning....questions

    I have finished all of my testing and I'm now waiting on insurance approval. I did not have to do a sleep study because I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and have used a C-Pap machine for several years. As for shakes, I've only tried the Slimfast, a brand called EAS (or some similar initials) and Atkins, all of which were available locally at groceries stores, Target, Wal-Mart, etc. I like the Atkins shakes better because they are not quite as sweet and they have less carbs than most of the Slimfast versions. Slimfast does have a low carb version now I believe, but I'm not familiar with it. I have been using the Atkins shakes for Breakfast for over a year. I'm sure others could speak more to the quality of the Protein in the shakes, but Atkins was easy for me to find locally and since I never really liked breakfast foods that well, the shakes were a good alternative for me. They are higher in fat than I would like, so I'm looking into trying some of the other suggestions on this thread that you might find useful. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f9/your-favorite-protiens-38055/ Good luck on your journey.
  18. Hi All, I’ve been checking in on you regularly, but haven’t posted for fear of jinxing myself. I’ve been working on getting a September date. I’m almost through all of the hoops. My doctor’s office is also working to make it happen by the end of September. Hopefully this time next month, I’ll be banded. I’m looking forward to getting to know you.
  19. Maria, Pre-bander here, so I can't comment with respect to neck pain and the band, but I do have significant experience with neck pain generally. I can go to bed fine and wake up unable to turn my head (I've obviously slept in an odd position.) I have a terrible time finding the right pillow. Is it possible that your neck pain is unrelated to the band? If so, you might consider having your family doc refer you for a little physical therapy. Just a thought. Good luck.
