I'm 36 yrs old and the mother of three beautiful kids. I developed both asthma and acid-reflux when I was pregnant with our last child. So of course me and exercise get along like oil and water.
I've struggled with weight my entire life. In high school I got a handle on it. I lost 65 lbs and started running track, then I got into gymnastics and horseback riding. Later, in my early 20's a series of ankle injuries that took months of physical therapy to get over left me heavier than I had ever been up to that time in my life. Never really got back down to my comfort zone after that and over the years, age and pregnancies just added more pounds.
So in December of 2012, I finally made the decision to have RNY gastric bypass. This was something I had been turning over and over in my mind for several years but I kept telling myself this next new diet was going to work. This time I would not just lose the weight but keep it of too. In January of 2013 I told my husband I had decided to pursue gastric bypass. He was not happy. He was worried about mal-absorption and complications and (bless his solid gold heart) he didn't think I was big enough to need something so drastic. Now months later, with surgery just around the corner, he is reluctantly on board with the plan. Mostly because of a few 'come to Jesus meetings' we had and the fact that he would support me no matter what. Yes I actually married "My Person" (Grey's Anatomy reference)
So now my surgery is scheduled for June 28th 2013. I'm using Duke's Center of Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery. Their entire team has been wonderful. It was sooo easy. I did the prerequisite testing, which they set up for me and a few weeks later they called with my insurance approval and scheduled the surgery. They actually would have had the surgery done already, but I had to push the date back due to prior commitments at work.
So after a couple weeks of splurging on my favorite foods that I won't be able to eat again for a long time, I am now dieting and trying to get my body and my liver ready for the RNY. YAY!
