Suggestions for a care/starter package?
Baconville replied to SouthernFriedPugs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein shakes are critical, especially in the early weeks. I use Premier Protein shakes that you can get at Sam's Club. I like the chocolate. I did use a powder at the beginning, but never really liked it. My clinic gave me some samples, I would try those, because the powders are expensive and if she doesn't like them, it's a waste. Low fat Greek Yogurt and low fat mozzarella string cheese were staples in the first weeks. Also canned tuna and canned chicken. A small blender is nice, but you only really use it the first two weeks, or at least I did. Hope that helps. Carol. RNY on 6/25/13. -
I don't know what to say, except if the temp in Minnesota got up to 50 we wouldn't just be grilling, we would be outside walking or jogging in shorts! Congrats on needing new sweats! I can't wait to buy shorts!

I wouldn't call it a cooking Renaissance, but I do find myself searching the internet for new recipes that are high in protein and low in fat and calories. My family is especially happy with a Turkey meatloaf recipe that I recently found. We need recipes that are fast and easy, this one is! Just another part of this great journey!

Great job RJ!! You go!!!

Had my six month check up today. Doc was thrilled! Gave me an A+. Nice to get the positive reinforcement! I did find out that I am actually getting too much iron, so I need to find a multitude vitamin that does not contain iron. Will look for that tomorrow. My blood tests also showed my B12 off the chart, which I know was mentioned by someone earlier this month. I was told that our B12 will always show up high, but since it is a water soluble vitamin, it is perfectly safe and we should never cut back on taking the one a day.

Now that is a good feeling! I want off the mailing lists for the large size catalogs, but haven't gotten around to doing anything about it. Victoria Secret here I come!

CONGRATS!! You have earned it! I am only 2 lbs away from what my doc thought I would bottom out at. I would like another 30 - 40. I am just going to keep on doing what I am going and see what happens. I have high hopes for a good visit in the morning too.

Go in for my six month follow up tomorrow morning. Ever feel like the universe is against you? Well, I have come down with a HORRIBLE cold, so I really have no desire to get myself moving. The HIGH temp today was about -15, so taking a walk outside is out of the question. Tomorrow morning the temp is going to be about -20. If the car starts and I get there, my weight is going to be just short of my goal. I wanted to be down 150 pounds. I am at 148, almost, but not quite! I am proud of what I have done, but I wish I could have had the two pounds!

So sorry for your loss. It is a very difficult thing to go though, even when you know it is best for them. Make sure to make some time for yourself this week. Easy to say, but very hard to do. Even more important for us when we are on this journey. On another note, I work in the district office of a school district. No school in Minnesota - too cold. Tomorrow morning we will wake up to temps about -25 with wind chills at about -50. I don't plan to so much as stick my nose out the door.

RJ, sorry about your Eagles. At my house we were hoping for a win! As Viking fans we really dislike the Saints!

Hi! This has been a great resource for me. I am also on MyFitnessPal.com. I record absolutely everything I eat. Even if it was a cheat. If I have to record it it makes me acknowledge it. Feel free to friend me there. In the end, only you can keep you on track. That said there are many of us here that you can lean on. We all need an ear every now and then - even a virtual one! Carol -
You look incredible!! WAY TO GO!!!

I am now just past six months and the hair loss is getting better. I have not gone totally bald, but my hair is much thinner, I previously had very thick hair. I added biotine to my Vitamins, even though it has not been proven to help. I also added Awaken hair care products. I would guess that time is helping more than anything else. I will Celebrate the day that I wash my hair and Don't loose a handful! Good luck!! Carol

I was watching the Today show this morning, waiting for the Rose Parade to start. They had a guy on that said you should search for one word to describe you goals/hopes for the year. I am going to pick the word ACHIEVE. I am going to make it my screen saver at work. I want to... ACHIEVE my weight loss goal ACHIEVE my physical fitness goals ACHIEVE a more balanced life ACHIEVE a more organized home There may be more... but that is a good start! Happy New Year! Carol

I couldn't agree with you more! RJ has it right too. I worked yesterday and today. In a way it was good because it forces me to get back on my schedule. The scale rewarded me this morning. I was down over a pound!

Family lore is that one of my husband's ancestors was said to have been in that boat. Maybe we will join you one year!
