    June Post Ops!

I am SO with you on this crazy weather! I have lived my entire life in Minnesota. This winter has been the worst I can remember. I can't say that I am actually in a stall, I did lose a pound last week, but this week the scale has not moved. I think this weather has something to do with it!!

I am so VERY sorry! Good idea to have labs run. I also think calling you doc is an excellent idea. They can look at what you are doing and possibly tweak it for you. Also, remember the scale is just one measurement tool. Have you been losing inches? How are your clothes fitting? You also said last week was very stressful, that can effect weight loss as well. DON'T GIVE UP!!! This is a journey, not a race. This is a rough patch, but going through this could very likely help you achieve long term success. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Go slow. I had just two ounces of wine last Saturday night, and I was buzzed. You might not need to drink as much to unwind from that terrible week! I hope all your hard work pays off!

It is probably the fat content or the sugar content or a combination of both. I have not tried peanuts or peanut butter, just seems like a lot of fat and calories for the amount of protein.

I began using MFP about two and a half months before surgery. I lost 40 pounds! I had surgery in June, and have used it everyday since I found the app in April. I recommend it to anyone wanting to loose weight. I am nearly 7 months post op and I have now lost 154 pounds. I really believe that MFP is the key to my success. I also believe that continuing to use it will be critical to long term success. It is a magnificent tool!!

I second this! SOOOO glad you are all ok! Fire is also my biggest fear. As a matter of fact, in junior high when the girls were telling me that the way to being thin was by starting to smoke cigarettes, I didn't resist due to health concerns or great parenting, I was terrified of lighting a match or using a lighter. A good thing in the end! I hope your clean up goes quickly! Here's to better days!!
  10. My experience is very similar. I will go for the sleep study in July to see what it says. But as long as I am sleeping without any signs of apnea, I am going without. I wake very refreshed every morning, have lots of energy, am never drowsy during the day. My husband reports that he can't even hear me breathing, let alone snoring, and I shook the windows! When I was in for my six month check, my bariatric doc said that if I presented at my current weight, with my current neck size, with a spouse reporting no snoring, they would never have even sent me in for the study. I still have my machine. If I ever feel that I am still experiencing apnea, I would definitely begin to use it again.

Hey! I am on MFP! Look me up!! My calories are between 600 - 700 calories a day. Most days my protein is about 50%. The carbs and fat change a bit more but make up the other 50%. I am still losing, but it is slowing down.

This is GREAT news!!! I bet you will feel much better now that you are off the meds. Can you imagine celebrating the idea of going to the gym a year ago?! Isn't this new life wonderful!!
  13. I have stopped using mine. I got to a point that I just slept better without it. My lung clinic will not do another sleep study until I am 12 months post-op, which won't be until July. I am married and my husband looked for any signs that I still needed it. I no longer snore, I don't wake up gasping for breath. I wake up feeling refreshed. I plan to get a Fit Bit which tracks your sleep, I think that will help as well.

Good for you! 4 miles is FANTASTIC!! I hope you doc clears you tomorrow. Remember, when it comes to weights lots of reps at a light weight is better that fewer reps at a higher weight.

    constipated help

As I said above, ground flaxseed can be found in the baking isle of most larger grocery stores. It is near the flower and sugar and cornmeal. What I take is NOT a supplement, it is a grain. I know they make pills, but for your problem you want the fiber in the actual food. It doesn't take a lot to help. I only use one Tablespoon each day and it keeps me regular. Also, my doc cautioned against metamucial type products if you are backed up. It will make the problem worse. Milk of mag was advised if you have not been able to go for a couple of days.

    Suggestions for a care/starter package?

I am really not a crier, so that wasn't an issue. That said, my anxiety really increased leading up to surgery. I had lost 40 pounds prior to surgery using the MyFitnessPal.com app. On the day of surgery it took every ounce of courage I had to go though with it. I will say that it has without a doubt been the best thing I have ever done for myself. A couple pieces of advice... Go into the surgery in the best shape you can be in. I steadily increased my workouts (on a recumbent elliptical) up to surgery. Start using MyFitnessPal.com now. I believe that using this app has been key to my success so far and will be key to my long term success. Make as many changes as possible BEFORE surgery. Start counting protein grams, separate food and drink, start drinking 80 oz of water every day, keep an accurate food diary. Doing these things now will make the other side SO much easier. Having a support system in place is also vital. Your sister is very lucky to have you. I had my husband and he could not have been better! Finally, if she is not active on this site, get her here. This site has been an invaluable support system for me.

I buy mine at Target. Look in the baking isle, most grocery stores will have it. I add one Tablespoon to my Greek Yogurt everyday. It really has helped me. My doc said water, movement, and going when you feel the urge are key. This has also really helped for me.

That is good news! I will be thinking of you, so let us know what happens after you see the doc. Here's to seeing the scale move down!

I forgot to say that I have had a rough week too with my weight stalling for the first time. I think I might have broken it because I was down this morning, FINALLY!! I have been telling myself that I just have to keep working the program. It will work for you too!!

Without being able to hit the gym, it's going to be hard to increase exercise. I would hope that walking would still be allowed, so I would suggest trying to get in at least two walks every day. Get a pedometer and try for the 10,000 steps! You could also try adding in some weight training, just keep the weights light. Make a point of working arms, legs and core. There is a lot of DVDs that can help you do this at home. Water can be tricky. I plan mine like I do my meals. I mix it up with herbal tea which also counts as water. 20 oz first thing in the morning, 20 oz mid-morning, 20 oz mid-afternoon, and 20 oz in the evening. My rule is that I can't eat the next meal until I have the water done for 30 minutes. Keeps me focused on getting it done!

I am with you there!! I won't say that it is always easy, you do have to follow the rules and put the time in at the gym, but I have my life back! I feel like me again! I can move, walk, even run! I look back to one year ago and cannot believe how it can change so much so fast!

  24. Hi! I had my surgery on June 25, 2013. I actually began losing weight in April, 2013, lost 40 pounds before surgery and am down a total of 150 pounds now. That said, I am currently wearing a tight 14 petite, so I was much larger than you when I began. Regarding diet, I would say that my clinic is stricter than most. If you would like to friend me on MyFitnessPal.com you can view my daily food diary. Most days I eat three meals and split a Protein shake. I average between 600 - 800 calories. My day goes like this: AM. half a premier Protein Shake Mid-Morning. One container of light Greek Yogurt with one Tablespoon of ground flax seeds lunch. Protein Bar dinner. About four ounces of meat, one cup of lettuce with salad dressing. Evening. Half a Premier Protein shake. I know my weight loss is slowing down. I am trying to increase my exercise now because I think that is going to be key to long term success. I hope you find this helpful. Carol

    So discouraged.

When you get done with the liquids, I would really encourage you to do a food diary, like MyFitnessPal.com. I have been stalled myself this week, and I know exactly the reason. Even though my calories have been under 900 a day, and I have been getting exercise, I know that I have been eating foods higher in fat. The past two days I have been more on track, and the scale is starting to move in the right direction again. You have come SO far! Rededicate! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!
