Hello everyone, I was away for a couple of days, got to enjoy a nice long weekend with my family. I have been reading more and more and for some reason (and I hope It's a good one) Tijuana always seems to come in to the conversation.The only bad thing is that there are too many it's confusing so I guess I have a lot of research to do since the cost for the surgery in Mexico is within my budget.

Your very first post on this forum and it is a four paragraph rant against doctor G.......wow.....your second post on this forum...a duplicate of the first one....my,my,my, with all kinds of statistics and everything! aren't we the studied one! This has got to be waaay out of the ordinary, a newbie spewing science on her very first post. I wonder.... What ever happened to: Hi everyone, can you give me advice on the lap band, you all seem like very nice people and its my very first time posting... I've been reading this thread and I feel I should post. I had surgery with doctor Gonzalez not long ago and up until now all the information I have received from them has been the same as Gabe's and mylap's, impressive. hi Gabe,(had surgery same day). When I had my consultation and the next morning before surgery I met other patients who were there for fills and consults (they were laughing and apparently knew each other, most looked really good, slim and nice!! I'll get there soon!!). I asked because I got kind of curious and not one referred any complications. I have emailed other patients and they have emailed and called regarding other lap band stuff and no one has told me of knowing anyone with complications, maybe just the normal stuff that comes when you eat the wrong food or you eat too fast. From what I've read so far I think wasabubblebutt is trying to throw dirt at doctor Gonzalez with some ulterior motive and unfortunately for her has not found any, to me, she is the one that seems to be grasping at straws. I don't know who mylap is but I know that in my entire experience with doctor Gonzalez or his staff I have never met her, so I don't think she works for him, I read somewhere she is a preschool teacher. I would like to know the answers to some of the questions she asked wasabubble though because wasabubble just brushed them off. Such as why is she trying so hard to find dirt on doctor G, especially when there is not one single negative post on him on this or ANY OTHER FORUM, NOT ONE..? (WOW doesn't that just blow you away!!!) Why did she go through someone else to get information from doctor Gonzalez office, saying she used a friend, don't you think thats kind of sneaky? Sneaky and Freaky..... Why does she speak with such authority on the subject quoting only one source, a manufacturer no less, while clearly stating she has no other sources? Why does she not answer if she knows the difference between average and combined numbers, I think that is very important. And from what I've read she does strongly criticize all mexican surgeons other than Rumbaud or Aceves. Mexican surgeons have been doing lap band surgeries for more than 10 years, so I doubt that there are only two good surgeons in Mexico. And with US surgeons just coming out of the learning curve you know there are tons of complications out there with US surgeons, and that is undisputable that is why it is called a learning curve. Most Mexican surgeons came out of that curve many years ago. Why does she never play sherlock holmes with any US surgeons?...hmm... . I have read plenty of wasabubble's posts and it is true that she just burps out information (LOL....UPB, you may have just invented the UPB. mylap that was goood!) about basically all mexican surgeons except those two, and does it with no backup or because she "heard someone". With her sneaky behavior and mexican doctor bashing except for rumbaut and aceves, I'm inclined to think she either works for a US doctor, or is somehow involved ($) with the two Mexican docs. She even goes as far as to say that most mexican cities are basically a battleground asking all to stay away from this and that city. I had my surgery in Tijuana and to me it is as nice as any US city. Wasabubblebutt, in my view and from reading many of her posts has a hidden agenda. Gabe I hope you keep losing weight, keep in touch. Mylap I think you should drop this, because I think there is no end to wasabubble's rants. Wasabubble, I think your paranoia has taken you just a little too far. You need help, serious help (maybe she's got lapbandtalkitis). Try going out every now and then, get some air, do some exercise it may do you good, or do you have a deadline to meet for post #4000? There are good doctors and there are bad doctors all over the world and from my experience, and what I have read and researched I think doctor Gonzalez is among the best, and I am not alone. I second your calling mylap, Any one of doctor G's patients out there with complications, please step up! Hello....anyone.......helloooo, c'mon, don't be shy!!! My experience was as yours, impressive! The level of care before surgery and their awesome follow-up after!!!! I have, like you, been called so many times since my surgery, to ask about my recovery and diet and food tolerance by doctor V and doctor G or by Laura just to say Hi! The facilities are great (I had a great view) modern and very clean. Great caring, professional team that I have recommended several times now.

Thanks for your reply short c. I started this thread looking for a doctor in Mexico to do my lap band surgery. Did my research, read up, called and posted. I decided to go with doctor Gonzalez. That was one of the best choices I have made. I feel started my weight loss journey on the right foot. Doctor G and his team live up to everything they promise. Through their phone calls and emails I have felt part of their extended family of patients. I have never been left alone, Laura or doctor G or doctor Valenzuela have been there for me every time. This journey is hard enough, their support makes it a bit easier. Thanks Laura, doctor Gonzalez and doctor Valenzuela, your care before and after surgery has made me a happier person.

Hello all! thank you all for your replies to this thread here is my experience that I wrote on the doctor Gonzalez thread, everything went great!

I'm back!!! Sorry I didn't post sooner but I left home only a couple of days and everything just went crazy. I had a great experience with everything, the little details are not even worth mentioning. All the doctors, Laura, the hotel and the surgical facility all were great. I'm speechless. I read about other people posting and I'm sure, they are exagerating! Not so, Christine everything was just as you had described it. I thank all of you for your referrals I feel so lucky that I found this forum otherwise who knows where I would have gone for my lap band. The day after surgery I did not believe it, I felt as if nothing had happened. Well let me tell everyone: Go to doctor Gonzalez and doctor Valenzuela. Calls and emails daily since I got back home, asking about my flight back, my pain, my incisions, my diet I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!! I'm happy to tears. And I'm losing weight!!!!!!!!!! The nurses were awesome, a couple have a little bit of a problem with their English, but they knew what I needed. Laura was ready to answer my calls (and did) 24/7. When do these people rest? I don't know but I am very grateful . Lap-bandit (I got your PM, thanks!), do not worry for a second, you are going to be in the greatest care with the greatest group of professionals. I will be flying to San Diego on Thursday! Excitement is the word and I hope everything goes well. Do any of you bandsters have any suggestions as to what to pack, any useful tips? I want this to be a good experience for me I don't like surprises. Gabe are you staying at a hotel? If you are let me know which one. My preop diet has gone so-so, I cheated once or twice and called and asked I was told to stick to it. Ok guys and gals Ill try to post before leaving If not then I'll write when I get back. This feels like a family now, :think I'm pretty sure we all will do excellent with our Lap band, I'm so excited, I have my appointment next week and even though is not on the same day as you guys it will be with the same Dr. Gonzalez , I have the same surgery date as Gabe4x4 isn't this great, may be we can meet each other in a couple of mos. down the road if any of you guys goes back for fills. There Seems To Be Many Good Surgeons In Tijuana Just Like I Mentioned To You Guys On My Last Post, The Only Thing Is That I Have A 2 Week Vacation Coming Towards The End Of Next Month And I Want To Take Advantage Of That Time To Recuperate From The Surgery So Now I'm Getting Nervous Since I Know I Have To Make My Decision Within A Couple Of Weeks,it Is Very Hard To Decide Since My Life And My Future Will Be In That Surgeons Hands. I Received A Call From Laura For Dr. Francisco Gonzalez , My Date For My Lap Band Is Set...august 17 !!!! Wich Is Perfect For Me, Since I Have Vacation Time Coming Up The Last 2 Weeks Of August. It Will Give Me Time To Recuperate From The Surgery And Also Give Me Time To Adjust To My New Life, I'm So Exited I Can't Believe It's Finally Set. Any Veteran Bandsters Out There That Can Give Me Advice Would Be Much Appreciated.

I'm sorry I didn't mention your doctor beachgirl but he just didn't pop up in my research. I could not find anything to support your claims. You claim he began doing lapbands in 1985, did you know the modern lap band's development began in a joint project in 1991 by doctors Mitiku Belachew and M. Legrand in Belguim, sponsored by Inamed? After two years of design, development work and testing of various prototypes and variations of the surgical technique in an animal lab, a video of the laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding in an animal model was presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS) in June 1993. Yet your doctor had "started these" in 1985? It is also helpful to know that your surgeon finished his residency in general surgery in march of 1992 at Bernardo Sepulveda Metropolitan Hospital, so he was quite a busy body, inventing lap bands before Belachew and before even finishing medical school! (he finished med school in 1988). The first human laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding procedure was performed on September 1, 1993, in Huy, Belgium. In July 1994, the LAP-BAND® System became available on the market outside the U.S. (info taken from Inamed web site, to read more about the history of the lap band, go here: LAP-BAND® - ALB History ) I'm doing a little research, I followed your advice when you asked me to check into him. Looks like theres many of us that want the lapband done in august,I'm also planning to have mine done in august,I don't have the exact date yet since I have not been able to make up my mind to wich doctor to go to, I'm looking in to couple of doctors in Tijuana ,and I need to make up my mind soon, since I want to take advantage of a little vacation time that I have coming up towards the end of august.still considering Dr.Gonzalez,Valencia and Dr. Ortiz

MLB ONE THING IS TO READ AND LOOK THROUGH THE DOCTORS WEBSITE BUT MOST IMPORTANT FOR ME AT THIS TIME IS TO ACTUALLY HEAR FROM ONE OF YOU THAT HAD ALREADY BEEN THROUGH THE SURGERY AND THAT KNOW FIRST HAND WHAT TO EXPECT AND IT IS VERY COMFORTING TO READ MANY GOOD THINGS ABOUT YOUR DOCTOR I'M BEING VERY CAREFUL ABOUT MY SELECTION SINCE I WILL BE PUTTING MY LIFE IN THEIR HANDS DOING ALL NECESSARY RESEARCH ,THANK YOU FOR YOUR INFO ON YOUR EXPERIENCE , I WILL BE LOOKING MORE INTO DR. Hello out there I'm starting my journey into looking for the best lapband doctor for me, I have been doing research on the web and also by asking around that's how I was recommended to this forum, to be honest I'm very afraid of any surgery every since my blood pressure dropped seriously when I got the epidural with my last baby, but along with the baby came 50 pounds and as much as I tried to go on diets (you name it, I tried it) to lose the weight I ended up gaining 12 pounds more, so here I'm 5'5" 235 pounds ,and very desperate to lose weight, I've come to the conclusion that if anything will work for me will be the Lap Band and I'm all ears now,any advise will be appreciated.
