Is your happiness and joy really the source of your husband's unhappiness? He may think so. You may think so. But is it really the source? Is it not more likely that when all is said and done, the source of his unhappiness is the fact that he suffers from a progressive, life-threatening disease - obesity? A disease that he feels powerless to do anything about? A disease that affects his quality of life on a daily basis.
From that perspective, what can you do? You made a very personal decision to do something about the same disease. He did not make the decision for you. And it is not your responsibility, or even possible, for you to make the decision for him. What can you do? You can be an example of what is possible. You can be happy. You can be joyous. You can Celebrate your success. You can enjoy every delicious moment of the journey to better health and a better life. You can literally be the most precious gift your husband will likely ever receive. Be understanding. Be supportive. Be patient. But most of all, be the example of what is possible. It is a very rare person indeed who will not be motivated to inspired action in the presence of what can be.

1st off..u look amazing! U were beautiful before and u are beautiful now just thinner! I have had to deal with friends probably more so than family so I'm not exactly there but I understand the losing dear people over something that u didn't even do wrong. It hurts! The hubby would really be great if he could step up and have a word with them. After all u guys were close and he should want to facilitate that continuing. People do treat u different when u lose..I'm seeing it myself now. I've lost 2 friends and have had a few that just seem not as close anymore and I'm not sure why. Nothing has happened. I do know that I'm seeking out people that are positive now. People that can build me up. Hope u are able to maintain a relationship with them..they are family after all but u deserve to be loved and treated as u always were.

Harwood, congratulations on your weight loss, you look great! Jealousy is a tough thing to deal with, especially when family is involved. It's unfortunate that you don't have support from these family members but you can get lots of support from your RNY "family" here!

How we lose inches when we are not losing weight - muscle vs. fat. Rapid weight loss is the result of your body metabolizing fat - body measurements are shrinking. High Protein diet promotes the addition of lean muscle - one pound of muscle is considerably smaller (less volume) than one pound of fat. So you can reach a point where the "weight" of the fat being metabolized by the body is equal to the "weight" of the muscle being added by the body = no weight loss. But one pound of muscle has less "volume" than one pound of fat = inches are being lost even though weight is stable.
Sugar alcohol - I know that stalls are sometimes attributed to consumption of sugar alcohol. There are some that believe a more likely cause is the higher amount of carbohydrates commonly found in foods that contain sugar alcohol. Here is a link to one of the better articles that I've read on sugar alcohol. It does a good job of explaining what sugar alcohols are and their pros and cons.

My surgery was on a Monday. I went to church Sunday and watched the Hallmark and Lifetime channel movies the day before. Got up early and went to the hospital Monday morning at 5:30am for the surgery! Nothing adventuresome. Now I did have a big dinner the day before my liver shrink diet! I started my diet on a Monday and it was Easter Sunday the day before. I had a huge meal!! Lol. Glad to day I did excellent on the liver shrink diet and lost 16 pounds. I'm now 21 weeks out today and I've lost a total of 76.5 pounds! Good Luck!

Aaggghhh! People just can't handle their own insecurities and jealousy. They hate us fat and hate the fact we are doing something about it. Maybe hate is a strong word but you get my point. Glad we can vent and support each other here. Just rem we did this for ourselves

There is no schedule for stalls and no substitute for patience. Patience is not only a virtue, it's an absolute necessity in the weight loss journey. Your goal is physical change but your challenge is mental discipline. Stay positive. Stay patient. Stay focused. Follow the protocol as closely to the letter as you possibly can. You will lose weight. The laws of science and the universe cannot be denied. But they also cannot be rushed. Allow your body to find its own way in its own time. You're going to hear it again and again - everyone is different.
But one thing never changes - you're gonna love the new you!!
