Insurance declined. Must self pay - who else has?
bb00024 replied to rlm34's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was denied and then denied again with my appeal and then the surgeon scheduled something called a "peer-to-peer" review. That seemed to do the trick. Apparently, this peer-to-peer review is my doctor scheduling a phone call with an actual doctor from the insurance company and my doctor explaining all the problems using medical terminology, I was having with my lap-band and that I now have a hernia, which could cause bigger issues. It worked and I was approved. It wasn't a quick process by any means, but it worked. Between each of the appeals and the doctor review the insurance has 30-days to respond.(Response time could be different based on ins. company rules.) My whole process was 8-mths long, but I started with one doctors office and changed due to his horrendous staff and poor bed-side manner, so the process started over. Good luck!!! I had surgery 09/16th and I am soooooo excited. -
I had my first BM today after surgery which was on Monday, 09/16. I am on an all liquid diet for 7-14 days, so I have diarrhea (TMI, I know). However, I just want to know if this is normal. I thought I wouldn't have a BM for 5-7 days, so I am just a bit early. I feel like I have been doing everything correctly. Vitamins, liquids, walking, passing gas, but no Protein for these first two weeks. My doctor just wants me to stay hydrated and to heal. Thank you for any advise from those that have been through this stage.

Oh, okay. Thank you for sharing. I was really worried that something was wrong as well. You have eased my concerns/fears, it sounds like it is normal.

Any September surgeries out there
bb00024 replied to SueC1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery 09/16 @ 10:00 CST and didn't start passing gas until today 09/18. It makes you feel better, so hopefully it will start soon. My husband is acting like a drill sergeant and he makes me walk, so maybe that has something to do with it. -
September Post Ops!
bb00024 replied to ShineBright724's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am officially an RNY patient. I had surgery yesterday morning (09/16) and was released from the hospital today (09/17). I am now home and trying to keep my pain under control. I converted from Lap-band and the doctor said I had massive amounts of scar tissue. The doctor said he was about to give up, but instead he tried one last spot and he could finely figure out how things were laid out. Once he could see everything, he was able to complete the surgery. So excited!!!! I won't dare get on a scale today, because I am bloated with tons of Fluid. -
It is 42-hours (approximately) until check-in time for Monday's RNY revision from Lap-Band. I am sooo excited and I can't wait to be on the path to a healthy weight and healthier life. I lost a lot of weight with the Lapband at first (100-pounds, 1 1/2-years), but just gained it all back the following 5-years. The "skinny" me was amazing, but gaining the weight back has been heart-breaking. It felt like such a TEASE to only be skinny for that short period of time. I can't wait for the skinnier me to be back again and to have that energy back. Come on "losers bench".

About 9-hours until I check-in at 7:30 tomorrow morning for surgery. Not sure I will get much sleep tonight. Excited!!!! liquids all day today was a little tough, but my husband was sweet and he left the house today whenever he wanted to eat. I finished a final bottle of Water for the evening and let's see if I can close my eyes and get some rest, for the big day tomorrow. -
I should state that I am not pregnant, but you probably figured that much, since I am having surgery tomorrow. LOL

I ate 5 days before my surgery is that bad
bb00024 replied to baseball44's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope all goes well. Have you done your pre-op? My doctor is only keeping me in the hospital 1-day. I was wondering if you were staying 2-days? 2-days seems to be the norm, so that has me worried. -

I am pre-op for Monday 09/16 surgery and my surgeon said if I was going to cheat on the liquid diet to make sure I did it no later than Thursday dinner time. That would only be 3-full days before surgery on Monday morning 10:30, so I think you are okay. -

Actually 3-days 19-hours and 10-minutes until hospital check-in time. 7:30-AM Monday (CST) Can you tell I am excited??? During pre-op appt this week the surgeon told me I also didn't have to so Magnesium Citrate the day before surgery, that rocks!!! -
My store H.E.B. in San Antonio, TX have Beanitos made with white Beans, so they look like regular tortilla chips. They also have chips made from black bean and also chips made from pinto beans. I am still pre-op, but look forward to trying these in the future. They have a website if they aren't in your grocery store, then maybe you can order online.

I couldn't understand when people were on their pre-op diet they kept saying, no more sweet, they wanted something savory and now I completely understand. The Protein shakes are sooo sweet it makes you crave savory. My doctors pre-op diet allows me to eat Jello (sugar-free), whipped topping (sugar-free), carrots, cucumbers so I am eating those items along with the Protein Shakes and tons of Water. I just drank half a jar of pickle juice, because I didn't want anything else sweet. Man this in only day 2 of 14. "KEEPING MY EYE ON THE PRIZE!!!"

Does anyone think it is an issue that the chicken broth from my broth portion of my pre-op diet is from won-ton Soup from my favorite Chinese restaurant? My pre-op diet is for a 14-day period and my surgery is scheduled for Sept 16th. I go to this particular restaurant a lot and they send me home with broth only, so I am not tempted to eat the noodles or try to eat around noodles and they cook without MSG. Thoughts???

Re-submission after denial

bb00024 replied to bb00024's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to do clear liquids the day before my surgery as well and I will also have that magnesium citrate stuff as well, to clear your bowels. Oh well, small price to pay for my health and life!!!! -

Pre-op liquid diet starts tomorrow for 2-weeks preparation for surgery on Sept 16th. I can't believe it is soooo close. I had an incredible fight with insurance for 8-mths about this revision from band to RNY and I am finally near the finish, but really the new beginning. Any tips on sticking to the liquid diet would be great. I really like this site, so much real-world information. Thanks everyone.

Has anyone's doctor made then stop their birth control pills 2-weeks before surgery for the pre-op liquid diet phase? I take b/c pills and I haven't had a menstrual cycle in 4-years, so I am scared this is going to add to cramping and bloating due to shocking my reproduction system. Any info would be great, thank you.
-
Thank you for the explanation. I didn't understand it and now it makes perfect sense. Extra protection it is, although I am not sure I will feel exactly "froggy" after surgery to worry about it, but it would probably be at least 1-month before my pills gets back to normal after surgery.

Thank you for the information. Any additional tips please feel free to give them. I feel like I am a little unprepared understanding the acceptable foods and I want to educate myself STAT.

I went the HEB and bought a pint of the chocolate lactose free milk, and it taste amazing. However, 1-cup has 12-g of sugar. Won't this be a problem after surgery?? I am Pre-op(Sept 16th surgery date), so I am trying to find things for after surgery. Thank you.

Has anyone experienced that your RNY surgery is approved, but insurance denies to cover the removal of the Lapband. I can't have the RNY with the Lapband still inside me, so it doesn't make sense to me. However they approved the RNY. I have appealed and they still denied the LapBand removal.
