Any September surgeries out there
bb00024 replied to SueC1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stitchergirl88: I have a terrible back pain going on for the second day as well. I can't figure it out. I took Tylenol and it helps, but not sure why I have it. It is in my back on the left-side slightly higher than my kidneys. I have a had time believing it would be gas as well. I am 8-days post op. Surgery 09/16/13. -

My nieces and nephews always know I have a bowl of candy on my dining room table. Well, since I have had RNY 1-week ago I haven't had candy around in about a month, maybe two months. Does anyone have any recommendations on sugar-free candy to keep in a bowl? And can RNY patients eat sugar-free candy due to the sugar alcohol? If there is a way to keep some of my old "perks" as an aunt, but tweak it so that I am also helping the kiddos with sugar-free candy. Thank you.

I am 6-days post-op and I have been on a liquid diet for 14-days before surgery and now these last 6-days after surgery. I have not had any issue with getting my Vitamins and liquids down. I would like to try a Protein shake today, but I am unsure if it is time. My Stage 1 diet plan doesn't list Protein shakes. Suggestions if this is a good or bad idea?

I am 1-week post-op today. When you were at this stage could you feel full? I don't know that feeling yet and I am scared to eat to much. Thank you.

Oh, thank you. The Goldfish and pretzels are a great idea, since those are individually packaged. I will also look into some trail mix recipes as well. Thanks for your helping me keep it in the healthy path.

Do you know that Walgreens can add flavors like grape to medicines to help with the taste, do you know if that flavoring contains sugar? -
I am on day 9 of my 14-day pre-op diet. I cheated today and ate an Atkins candy bar/snack thingy. I feel bad, well sorta ) However, my real question is about after surgery, will these Atkins items be something we can eat? Caramel Nut Chew bar 1-G sugar 130-calories 2-G Net carbs The back says 17-G Carbs, but 6-G dietary Fiber and 1-G Sugar and 9-G Sugar Alcohol. Any information would be great. Thank you.

I ordered the pre-packaged liquid vitamins from Wellesse. It is everything you need for the first 30-60 days for about $50/bucks. I think I will go to pills after this, but I will have to play that by ear. -
I am moving on to Stage 2 food today (7-days post-op), since I added Protein yesterday. I had 2-teaspoons of shredded/fat-free cheddar cheese. I was AWESOME!!!! It felt great to chew something. I just ate nice and slow and no problems thus far. I need to go to the grocery store tomorrow for yogurt and cottage cheese. Does anyone have any yogurt recommendations?

I am a Sept 16th surgery patient as well. I am doing okay. I decided to start protein yesterday and that has helped with my energy. I also have the most amazing husband that has helped me all week. I am still pretty sore though. It is controlled with Liquid codene, but not ready to get up and dance by any means. My husband also went to my favorite Chinese restaurant and got broth for me, so that was a nice change. I have been able to get all of my vitamins and liquids in without any issue. I don't know what the "full" feeling is yet, not sure if I am suppose to know it/feel it yet. Some of my gas pains into my back were horrible, but those have subsided. I have had 2- BM, loose but at least I know the plumbing is connected correctly. Walking has helped, but I walk slowly so that I don't over do it. I have lost about 7-pounds since surgery, so that is great. I really enjoy this website and visiting with everyone, so I will continue to participate through my journey. -
Protein shake yes or no

Well, I went with your advice and had a protein shake. I feel much better. My head-ache has gone away and I am in a much better mood (just ask my husband, LOL). -
Protein shake yes or no

It says Stage 1 should just be Vitamins a fluids until you start to feel hungry, which can last anywhere from 7-14 days. It is electrolytes, Water, tea, broths. Then you advance to Stage 2 for mushy/puréed foods. I feel puny though. Absolutely, no energy and I have a lingering head-ache that I think is from not eating. -
I never thought I would be so excited about a BM. It let's me know that all the plumbing is working correctly.

Remember to use your legs and brace yourself on the person helping you into bed. I sort of roll into the bed and I am sleeping on the opposite site of bed so that I get into bed from my right side.
-
Getting into bed and out of bed is a challenge, I don't recommend you trying it by yourself. My husband helps me in and out of bed and actually sleeps in the other room, so he won't accidentally hurt me while I sleep. He keeps his phone next to him and I call him when I need to get up. He has been amazing!!!!

I bounce between the bed and recliner. I can lay flat on my back in bed with pillows of course for my head. My husband helps me in and out of bed though. Don't try to lift your legs into the bed by yourself, it will hurt your stomach muscles.

I am actually a bit "gassy" today, so that could be the issue. I did a lot of walking yesterday versus any other day, so maybe that is the issue with over-exerting myself. Thank you.

I did have a BM, but just diarrhea (sorry TMI). I guess it could be gas settling, but I thought since my surgery was Monday and today is Friday that would be too long for the gas to still be in there.

Last night my husband went to my favorite chimes restaurant and purchased a Won Ton soup, but the broth only and it was really good. I am with you though, clear liquids as well and Crystal light and water have become uGh. -
Is anyone else hurting today worse than yesterday? I had surgery in Monday 09/16 and today my back left side is hurting badly, but it comes and goes. I knew that the left side would hurt since that was the largest incision and the surgeon warned me about that area. However, this pain is in the back left-side and it is new today and is hurting. My liquid intake has been great and not an issue at all.

I received liquid pain medicine and it is amazing. It works within minutes, but didn't get a pain pump either. -
I had my first BM today after surgery which was on Monday, 09/16. I am on an all liquid diet for 7-14 days, so I have diarrhea (TMI, I know). However, I just want to know if this is normal. I thought I wouldn't have a BM for 5-7 days, so I am just a bit early. I feel like I have been doing everything correctly. Vitamins, liquids, walking, passing gas, but no Protein for these first two weeks. My doctor just wants me to stay hydrated and to heal. Thank you for any advise from those that have been through this stage.

Sorry, to hear that appealing is not an option.

I was denied and then denied again with my appeal and then the surgeon scheduled something called a "peer-to-peer" review. That seemed to do the trick. Apparently, this peer-to-peer review is my doctor scheduling a phone call with an actual doctor from the insurance and my doctor explaining all the problems using medical terminology, I was having with my lap-band and that I now have a hernia, which could cause bigger issues. It worked and I was approved. It wasn't a quick process by any means, but it worked. Between each of the appeals and the doctor review the insurance has 30-days to respond.(Response time could be different based on ins. company rules.) My whole process was 8-mths long, but I started with one doctors office and changed due to his horrendous staff and poor bed-side manner, so the process started over. Good luck!!! I had surgery 09/16th and I am soooooo excited.
