April 2013 Post-Op Group

Just an update....bloody diarrhea at 1:00 am...severe stomach pain....back to the hospital...blood count steadily, slowly falling. The egd showed my ulcer wasn't bleeding, so tomorrow I get a colonoscopy to check for another ulcer. I'm not going home until they get to the bottom of this....something is really wrong, and I need answers. In the meantime, they ordered a bowel prep with gatorade, and I told then forget it unless it's sugar free. They don't get rny sometimes! -

I am am so sorry... Please know you're in my thoughts and prayers...much love, hon. -
My husband has been smoking outside...he's a good egg, and now no one can smoke in the house....
-
There is a therapist here who specializes in helping folks quit...not that I have the time for lengthy therapy...if the urges get too bad, hypnosis here I come.
-
If I could, I'd use every product available....go for it if you're not already. Some people have good luck with hypnosis, too!

I'm almost five months post op....quit smoking for three months, and then started smoking a little...no more than 1_2 a day or less. But, yeah it really messed me up...I almost bled out...actually back in the er as we speak. The addiction is so strong. I quit for twelve years, and in 2008, I took three puffs....I was back smoking in three days. I have to quit this time...my stomach won't take anymore foolishness. I do know that the urge to smoke will pass whether I have a smoke or not, so I may as well not. I'm not taking any meds; chantix makes me nuts, and nicotine products can irritate my pouch further, so cold turkey it is. I know when I get past the first week or so, I will be happy I quit...it's just getting there. Be well. We can do this... Rant on here the next time you want a smoke...we got this!

Friday Weigh-In!
deaddemmama replied to KevinsBabyGirl85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Last week...207...this week, 213. Of course I had round the clock ivs, two transfusions, and they weighed me in the bed with all the blankets, clothes,etc.. They had no idea why I was freaking out about my weight so much... On a side note, I couldn't eat much, so they brought me a supposedly low carb protein drink....yeah... 250 calories, hfc, 27 g carbs, 14 g sugar. The bariatric diet wouldn't allow me salt or light margarine, but they brought me that crap....stupidity. -

You'll be surprised how few tantrums you'll have when you have no nerves to your stomach....they won't disappear, but it's better!

Missed my neurology appt...shoot.needed two transfusions. Had a serious bleed. My blood count went down to 6.5... Normal is 14! My bp is 83/38.....really not good. After the transfusions it went up to 90/57, blood count was almost 9. And they let me go home. This is all from sneaking maybe two cigarettes a week...I thought you had to have H pylori to have ulcers BUT NO! I'm done smoking for good.. I had quit before surgery and started 3 1/12 months after...big mistake! -

It seems like you have made the first step...admitting there is a problem. I give you credit for getting honest! Now just decide if you want to stay away from the crap day by day, and make that decision accordingly. It wont be easy, but with help, it can be done one day at a time ! -
Smoking and Gastric Bypass
deaddemmama replied to thermo2000's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Just be aware...I started smoking again after three months post op.....just sneaking a few hear and there. I'm now in the hospital with a bleeding ulcer; it took 1 1/2 months to develop. While most non gastric bypass patients develop ulcers due to H pylori, it seems that we rny patients can and DO develop ulcers due to irritants like smoking as well as due to variants like H pylori. Please try your hardest to stop, and message me if you'd like a " quit" buddy! I'd love to have help quitting with someone! -
I've recently become interested in juicing. I know we don't get the fiber when we juice, but I feel like I need the nutrients from real food, not just vitamins. Thoughts anyone?

I,too, have chronic pain issues, along with migraine related vertigo. I just got back from the er because of incredible , searing ear pain related to my trigeminal nerve...kept me up all night until I just couldnt take it anymore. Sometimes I just don't even care about my weight loss with all the other crap I've got going on. But, on the bright side, I started a new job training last night and could sit for four hours without too much pain. At least it was manageable. Never could have done that six months ago. Dori, I hope your surgery goes really well. Living in pain is hard. Keep your chin up!
