I had been thinking about having gastric bypass surgery for at least ten years, I'd make an appointment,& chicken out & cancel, then go back to Weight Watchers & loose 40 or 50 lbs, but then I'd stop going. Like I said this went on for years, then 8yrs ago I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis & fibromyalgia, also hypothyroidism (under active thyroid for those who are unfamiliar with the word) I was in so much pain that over time I became disabled & was gaining so much weight, that I was practically bed ridden, I didn't know how much I weighed because my Doctors scale didn't go over 300lbs. Then my oldest son had a daughter, my first grandchild I had such visions of being this wonderful hands on grandma, always there walking her in her stroller, visiting etc.. the usual grandma things , but because of my weight (which kept climbing) I didn't do much, which caused problems between my son & myself. Fast foreword 2 yrs & I was at the library with my granddaughter & she wanted me to sit in the little chairs in the children's library, I told her that I couldn't, & she wanted to know "why?" Grandma won't fit, I say "why?" Because I'm to big, "why?" Isn't 2 a wonderful age? But she was right why did I let myself get this way , how did I do this to myself?? I'm sure we all have asked the same questions, but that afternoon I called &made an appointment for the next seminar my surgeons off I c e was giving,& after that I made an appointment to meet with one of the Drs kept the appointment & even showed up, we went over everything & he told me I probably had 10yrs left if I didn't do something. So I scheduled a surgery date & got all the post op stuff done & chickened out.Yep did not go through with it! I couldn't give up all the food that had become my comfort & companion for so long, I loved food more than myself! My husband kept getting on me & so did my son's to get the surgery , not because I was fat ok morbidly obese, but they didn't want me to die. So one morning I just picked up the phone & started the process all over again, I didn't tell anyone, just needed to do it on my own for me,you know?? So I went to the same surgeons office but met with a different Dr & that made all the difference. I did reschedule the surgery date 2 times but on Jan 29 2013 @ 9:45am in I went it's been 6 months & I've lost 108lbs!! 108!! That's a whole person! I still have another 132l b s to go , & I'm losing weight much slower now ,,but I'm still loosing I haven't gained any weight back , even when my mom had quadruple heart bypass, I didn't turn to food for comfort. So my journey continues, I joined a gym& am waiting for it to open, but I've found that I enjoy shopping again, fixing my hair wearing make up & earrings again. My wedding band even fits!!! So that's my story, even though it's long it is an abbreviated version. To whoever reads this thank you! . Peace, Mary
